Thanks for the suggestions on breathing and training plans. I'm probably not as fit as most of you guys, so I'll be starting from a little less intense training.

My plans for this week:
Monday: Swim 30 min (I need to figure out how many laps/min I can do)
Tuesday: Brick: Bike 45 min, Run on treadmill 30 min
Wednesday: swim 30 min (drills), strength training
Thursday: long run 60 min,
Friday: off
Saturday: Mtn bike with friends 1 hr, Run 30 min
Sunday: Run 30 min, strength training

Grimmco: My husband is an LSU alum and as a condition of getting married I had to agree to convert to being an LSU fan. The only time I am allowed to root for another team is when my alma mater is playing (Iowa). And since Iowa beat LSU the one and only time they played each other, I have been able to live with that arrangement. BTW: my bother is an Ohio State alum and lives in Columbus, so I'm already in the doghouse.

That's a respectable workout!!  nice job.

One question - when do you plan to rest??  Isn't it important to schedule that in like a workout?

I've been pretty good. The challenge thing is a great idea (Go Team "Who's Your Marmadaddy?"), I like having a team. I got beat down at work today and I don't think I'm going to make it to the gym tonight, but an early bed time should make tomorrow morning's workout better...at least that's how I'm justifying it right now.

I am doing pretty good.  I just recruited one of my friends to train for the irongirl triathlon in MD this summer!  And of course, directed her to our fabulous training website.

I have had another crazy week at work so far - mostly because I am outta here at noon tomorrow.  I think I got everything done - and, have gotten out of bed to go to the gym for the past two days in the AM, too.  I am considering taking a rest day tomorrow (originally planned on running) since I'll definitely be skiing solid days for the following four days.  I am thinking I might just go and lift weights.  (I am most worried about my knees getting achey).  What should i do?

I'm headed to Salt Lake City, UT for some skiing (5 days) at Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, Solitude.  It's a trip thru the local ski club; some of my friends are going too so it's sure to be a great time.  How about you? Are you off to a ski destination too?

I plan for 7 days a week because there always come a point where work gets in the way and I have to miss a day, so that way I don't get too stressed out about missing a workout. It just becomes a rest day.

Well, since LSU beat OSU; who has to find themselves another mentor. (just kidding).
Really thought that LSU was going to get their butt kicked about 10:00 min into the game. OSU beat themselves with all the penalties in the second half. Better luck next year.

Well, I ate so much watching the game last night that I felt I needed more than 60 min of spin class to redeem myself, so ended up doing 2 spin classes back to back (1:50) then 15 min on the treadmill

Good morning – sounds like all of you are going great. Pat/Jen – have fun skiing.

I had a really horrible 5 K run last night – that was all I could squeak out. I think it was the world’s slowest 5 K easy run ever! I think my legs are just tired still from my 23 miler on Sat, as they felt EXTREMELY heavy , I wanted to stop running after every few feet…My hamstring tendonitis was acting up on the hills (have had it since last March) and just over-all fatigue. And I can definitely use a massage!

So was not too happy about my run last night. Oh well, I will be in the tropical Caribbean soon enough.

Happy Wednesday!
Cheryl

Doooood, that sounds awesome!  How did you find such a bargain?  My trip is around $850 incl. airfare, shuttle to hotel, hotel, 2 meals, and 4-day superpass to the four ski areas.   (hotel is about ~45 min away from the slopes)

Have a great time!!  ::shoosh shoosh::

I'm envious of you skiers...I will probably have to settle for a quick jaunt to northern MI again for a day this weekend. We have to plan around school calendars, so will probably head to the Rockies in late Feb. Sounds like both you guys got great deals on some fun packages. Jen...I'm really envious of you! Snowbird and Alta are my all-time favorite places. Have a fantastic time...I hope you have fresh powder.

As for the training...work has really been getting in the way, along with family responsibilities. I keep trying to make time...I haven't given up yet!

Okay, before all you ski bunnies take off the for the slopes and running through the Caribbean the next few days (I am envious of you!) any suggestions/recommendations on aerobars? I'm going to make an appt to drop my bike off for a tune-up my bike shop is having a 20% discount til the end of February and when I do so want to get myself some aerobars.

I ride a Cannondale Synapse road bike.

I'm thinking with increasing to the Oly distance and training on rides that will be 30+ miles, I should get some aerobars.

Suggestions welcome!

Well it's pretty funny but i have yet to use them..

and my friend(and fellow hippo) were talking bikes andmade quite an interesting point..

aero is TWICHY.. more so on a road bike.

So he tells me the TDF riders ride with normal road bikes(except for time trials) and they do = if not more distance then us..

so he is going for just a plain old road bike for now..

and I'm doing that also..

Last year I rode with a pair of Scott clip on areobars that a friend gave me to try. They made a big difference (improvement) in my bike time if the course was fairly flat. As Pat mentioned, they are quite squirrelly and it takes some practice before you are comfortable with them. Most cycle clubs in this area will not let you use them on group rides.

When I bought a new bike last month, I had areobars installed because I'm trying to qualify for Nationals and the qualifying course I'm going to ride is flat. My areobars are made by Trek. I wanted to get Profile Design (which is what most folks I know ride with) but they would not fit on the bike that I bought.

If you've never used areobars before, I would get something inexpensive (or see if you can borrow some clip on ones from someone else) to see if you like them.
