Elizabeth,
Trek has some WSD(women style design) bikes. They are made for the women in mind. Mine is a bike path more then a road bike due to the back problems I have had in the past. I figured it is entry level. My goal is to cross the finish line this first few Tri's. This bike will do the trick.

So if you can find a Trek dealer in your town. Have them show you the styles.

Laura

Thanks... it keeps going back to trek... I will check them out. There is a bike's direct store in my neighborhood... I will pop in to see what they carry. Also... does anyone know... do you deal on the price of bikes like cars... or do you pay sticker? Just curious.

Don't laugh... but at work they had a rummage sale... I found a pair of bike shoes, brand new, in the box, in my size, shimano's... they were $5 so I bought them. I have no clue as to how they work, with what peddles, etc. I figure if they end up not working I can always sell them on ebay or figure out how to use them for spinning class.

As far as training goes... I have been fighting a bad cold... sure enough today i woke up pretty sick. Damn... one more excuse for not training full speed ahead.

Hey everyone!  I am glad to see the thread is alive without me.  If I can survive this weekend, I promise I wil be able to get to everyone's questions.  I am right smack in the middle of moving day part 2, with 800 miles left to go.  The trailor I am hauling at a max speed of 45 mph.... yyyyyyyyeah.... if you do that math, its going to take a while.  This moving stuff sucks.

Anyway, how is the training going?  EVERYONE is getting to the pool, right?

denny.l - 2008-01-04 9:19 AM I vote for "La Mako" Poco Espanol? I will post bike porn of "Elizabeth " aka Izzy(mtnbike) and "The Maz" (short for Mazzerrati) along with thier respective mojo/headbadge friends. I'm haunting the group because I'm on vacation from school..one of the perks of working in public schools. Les

Wouldn't that be "El Mako"?  Either way, I like the Espanol version of Mako.  Good suggestion Les, and great photos in your album.

Or Los Mako...all this Espanol...I want mucho cervaza si???

Oh yeah... one rule:  if you are a member of my mentor group, you are not allowed to watch "Shark Week" on the Discovery Channel.  We had a VERY long discussion last year about fearing OWS and Shark Week makes it worse.  Yes, I am serious.

Definelty a Female, I just don't have any desire to ride anything male ( not there is anything wrong with that ) . I never thought about naming my bike before I came on here. Besides if I call it, it's prolly not gonna come rolling up to me  now is it?

I have never seriously biked before, so I went to the store and told them I wanted to start doing tris. But I wanted a bike that I could use for riding up and down the beach with my husband, too. When I get better at tris and know what I want, I will invest in a tri-bike.

They suggested the GARY FISHER Mendota, which I purchased. I am pretty happy with is so far. Very light and easy to manage. I may take it in to have aero bars added, but I think that is will get me through my first few races where my goal is just to finish!

Here is a stock pic of it.

azelizabeth - 2008-01-04 7:25 PM All of this talk about bikes... does anyone have a good suggestion for a somewhat entry level road bike? I am petite (ok... short) ... so that factors in. Not sure where to start and also... do bike shops deal? Is it like a car... one price on the bike... another out the door? Elizabeth

A lot of folks seem to like the Specialized Allez, or the Giant OCR series as good entry level bikes.  I will be looking at both in the very near future.  Remember the most important thing is fit, so be sure to get fitted at your local bike shop.

Believe it or not, 28 people made it into the group..... The OCD side of my personality came out and I put all of the user names, real names, and locations (just in case you are near someone to train with) into one list. If there is missing information, please let us know who and where you are!!

This will also make it easier to add peoples logs to your buddy list. I know I am here to be encouraged to get out of the door and work out, so don't be afraid to mock me unmercifully when I miss a workout (like today when I am using my cold as an excuse).

BTW Hope the move is going well Robyn.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you triOK's Group AKA The Best Group:

If I made up my mind on which to buy, I will give it a girls name of course! It's a special relationship between a male (in my case) and his bike, which is just best described by using a female analogy! It's females you can rely on, just as you need to trust your bike OK, enough philosophized ...

Hmm, well the links don't seem to work once I paste the table into this message.  Maybe someone smarter than me with HTML can fix it, or tell me what I need to do?  I can see that the links are all basing off of www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums ... when they actually should be pointing to www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training ...  Not sure how to fix it without editing each and every link.

Hi Keith,

I looked at the links and I think they are linking to a page that doesn't exist. The link should be going to: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/view-profile.asp?action=vi...
(that is you) but the links are sending you to

href="index-weekly.asp?memberid=54683". I'm not sure how the HTML works inside this format. I'll keep trying.

Hello,

I just got my ears pierced yesterday and was told *after* the piercing that I cannot swim for a month. I guess January will be intensive cycling and running. I guess in the meantime I will have to read my swim book again to recall some old techniques.

I about cried when she told me that.

To let you guys know, I was in Robin's group this last fall. I'm planning on 4 possibly 5 tris this year: Flower Mound TX, Iron Girl in Irving TX, Rockwall Tri in Rockwall TX, and a triathlon with my friend in Xanten, Germany. I'd also like to do the Danskin in Austin, TX, but have no idea when that is. I am also considering the Toyota tri in Dallas.

I'm still in the planning phase right now. Today, I am going to finalize a training plan. Basically, I'm taking the "Couch to Sprint" freebie training plan that I used last year and will tweak to intensify it.
