Ok, so I have fallen off my training schedule over the weekend and probably for the next few days and next weekend. However, I am currently pulling out all of the flooring from my house and next weekend laying new flooring as a do-it-yourself project. So even though I am not doing tri workouts my body is getting a hell of a work out and I am so sore. So I know I am burning calories so I don't feel too bad. I hope to get in some work outs after I finaly get all the floor off after work today before I start on laying the floor next weekend. Hell carrying the 30 45lbs boxes of floor upstairs is workout in itself.

Amber: It's just a matter of practice. It's fine to take breaks and let your HR calm down. Just stick with it and it will get easier. Most people usually have that 'click' moment in the pool after 6-8 weeks.

You might want to look into Total Immersion. They have books, DVDs and even put on clinics all over the country. I've never actually done it, but I know a lot of people have been very succesful with them.

Kim: What plan are you using?

Don't be too concerned about how you'll put everything together on race day. A well designed and executed plan will build you up to where you need to be, but without burning you out. It may be ackward when you try and run right off the bike and practicing that will help, but at the same time your form will not be good and then that run would just be junk miles.

My coach rarely gives me brick workouts. I had a total of 5 throughout my 9 month plan for IMKY last year. The idea is that taking at least an hour off between each workout lets you recover, refuel, relax, refocus...I'm out of words that begin with 're'....and then your next workout will be higher quality.

I'm using the Michael Pates Total Sprint program. My friend that did her first tri last year did this one and recommended it for me.

My week went well. It was a recovery week with time trials thrown in to reset all my training zones for the next phase. Those things hurt! In a good way though. I was happy to see I had improved slightly again in all three sports. I'll take any gains I can get over a month period.

This week starts my 3rd conditioning phase for the next 4 weeks. We'll see at the end of that phase if I make any more gains at all before going into more specific training. I dont have any races coming up this weekend, or this month! They are pretty scarce without traveling in good old michigan through the next month or two. Im fairly jealous of you guys that live in warmer climates! From looking at everyones blogs it looks like everyone is doing pretty well..

This doesn't like it's going to be a good week for me. I have a horrible head cold and am miserable today. I am really disappointed because I got my swimsuit yesterday and was looking forward to getting into the pool this week.

I'd like to hear from anyone else what, if any, training they do when they're sick and are having difficulty breathing. I don't want to overdo it and make myself sicker than I already am, but I also don't want to use my sickness as an excuse for sticking on the sofa.

Last week was a very busy week. I did not get all my workouts in but it was not because I was being lazy. This week is week 2 base and hopefully I will finally get back in the pool. All being said it was a pretty good start. Couple of questions Aaron:

1. I have seen those snorkels in books and magazines, but are they made for the whole workout or just different sets in your plan?

2. What are some of your successful weight loss tips that have helped you get to where you are now?

Thanks. Hope everyone has a geat week!

NOrmally I workout if I am sick if I am not running a fever. Normally fever means infection and then thats when you dont really want to push it because then you could really knock yourself out longer than need be if you get worse. Otherwise, for normal head colds or allergies, sometimes a workout helps me. At least for a couple hours. But if you do train youll know if you need to stop.

I'm going through a little rough spot. I've had some kind of stomach bug for nearly 48 hours & it doesn't seem to be going away. I can't believe one bad diet day would cause this. I'll probable make today a rest day unless I start to fell better over the next 6 hours. If I'm not better by the morning, I'll go see my doctor.

I'm 4 days into a 11 day graveyard shift. My last day is next Sunday night & then I have to come back to dayshift on Tuesday morning, not looking forward to that & may use some sick leave for the transition.

It sounds great! I have a yogurt, mixed fruit (usually frozen mixed berries) with wheat germ and a little granola--proteins, carbs...

Wow! What a week and what a race--congratulations on having such a great race!

JeepFleeb - 2008-01-14 9:57 AM

So how was everyone's week? What do you have coming up?

My long runs last week were some of the best I've ever done. Just the right temperature and I had fun every step of the way. Hope it keeps up because I've got two more on the schedule this week.

The 10K race was great. My split at the 5K mark was 50sec ahead of my PR but I couldn't keep the pace up on the way back. Ended up winning my age group so I couldn't really ask for more.

This week: lots of pool time. I finally got a snorkel and fins to help with my drills and they'll get plenty of use. Saturday is the regional awards banquet down in Austin where they give out a ton of free race entries as door prizes. Sunday is my first duathlon of the year: Frost Yer Fanny. Then I've got a friend's wedding that night. Should be a very full weekend.

Could not believe how much raising seat on bicycle helped.  had 2 good bike runs and knees felt great.  Easy run on Sunday evening.  Knees were sore this morning.  Hope to start swimming this week.

Was wondering if knee braces work.  Or maybe should wait on more running until losing more weight. (lost 3lbs this week and have been running/walking since for 9 weeks without any pain until last week after crashing on bike without unclipping from pedals.)

I'm down 3.6 lbs from last week! But the best part is that I think I'm actually getting rid of whatever sickness I have. I didn't work out all weekend but I started working out again yesterday. I'm going to try and get back to my training schedule, including swimming, this week.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement around my sickness. I am convinced that working out yesterday helped.

Sick.

Coach Z cancelled my workouts for today and tomorrow so that's 7.5 hours lost.

damnnnnn.. that sucks. Hopefully its not something too drastic that has you down for days??

I see you have training camp later this month.. so good timing on not getting sick during that at least!
