kcarroll - 2010-10-08 2:09 PM BTW Melindy, what made you suspect you were gluten intolerant? And are you eliminating dairy at the same time or sequentially?

Its more me trying to figure out why I am iron deficient. Anemia itself is fairly non-specific, but there has got to be something. I eat meat...so there should be no dietary reason. I'm pretty much doing this backwards and realise I should start off with cutting out lactose before I cut out gluten...so I guess that I am sort of doing it sequentially right now. The thing with lactose intolerance is it is really common because people stop producing lactase as they age...but if you are gluten intolerant then chances are that you are lactose intolerant too...

I really like cheese...Cry...I like cheese more than I like bread...this is kind of the reason I picked gluten first. But after a few days...I am probably on the side of lactose intolerance too/alone...word on the street is it is easier to cut out lactose than gluten. Haha. Or so says my friend I ran into yesterday.

This sucks. Basically.

ETA: I have had GI symptoms as well...so between GI symptoms, anemia and fatigue...

I'd not heard gluten intolerance associated with anemia. Live and learn. I also like my cheese. I tried once to make the final steps to vegan and just couldn't do it. The lactose free milk is fine though.

I also tend to be borderline anemic, but it is driven by my lack of red meat consumption. When I get run down, time to bring out the SlowFe.

Good luck sorting it all out.

Ya. Unexplained anemia is actually one of the hallmark findings of people who are gluten intolerant. But cramping and anemia are unfortunately signs of both lactose and gluten intolerance. Haha. Fail GI tract, FAIL.

I'm on Palafer.. Its 100mg elemetal Fe a day when I am training training. Its good times...haha.

Maybe I just have IBS...

I've been having foot pain and have been taping my foot lately. I was all befuddled trying to get kids ready for school this morning that I forgot to tape my foot.

Around mile 15 I had to decide if I was going to go straight and head home, giving me 18 miles, or turn right and get about 22 in.

I headed home.

My pace was pretty slow today, too. Although I was carrying a camelbak full of water on my back which I'm sure slowed me down. One of the straps kept rubbing against my neck, too. Ouch!

I read the posts I missed today. Can someone explain a gluten free diet to me?

I need to lose some weight, too. The problem for me is I already eat a limited diet, it's just not the best diet. I really do need to work on that.

ANN, you did the best you could! That is good enough. In fact, sounds to me like what you did was SMART. All you would have accomplished by pushing it is increase risk of injury. You've already done a 20 miler, so this wasn't bad at all. Quit beating yourself up and run the taper as planned.

Well gluten free diet isn't really a "lose weight" diet. Its just cutting anything with gluten in it out. Because I think I have a gluten intolerance....and/or lactose intolerance.

gluten is a protein in wheat. similar proteins are in barley, rye, etc.

All you can ask for is your best. Some days your best is better than others. Be happy with what you did and even though it was sucktastic its more than a lot of people could ever do.

It was 77 here when I got home. I liked Wednesday nights run better, it was in the 60's and I even had deer crossing the road in front of me.
