Nice run Samantha.  Sometimes running in the rain can be a great thing, as long as it's not too cold or at least you're dressed properly.  As one of my running friends says, there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear.

Dirk, got Lisa covered.  Tell her to bless you by letting you take care of her.  She sounds like my wife in that her life is full of helping others so she doesn't feel comfortable letting others take care of her, but let her know that she's really helping YOU giving you a chance to pay it back.

Everyone have a great weekend, I have to get back to carbo loading!

Thanks everyone for the support you're offering my wife.  She's fine.  She had an endoscopy and she was worried about it quite a bit.  The scope went well but now we have to wait for a week or two before hearing the results.  Right now we are home and I told her that I let the group in on the procedure today.  I know she appreciates the support from this group as well as others.

Warren,  I'll tell her what you said and see how she responds.  She probably won't ask for much and will likely do whatever she wants prior to asking me to do anything for her.  Actually she has already done that a couple of times despite me asking her to sit down and let me do something for her.

Glad to hear it went well Dirk, I hope she has a speedy recovery!

Sorry I've been a little AWOL with everyone's posts this week. Life has gotten the better of me. It doesn't seem its likely to stop any time soon... I'll be playing polocrosse from 9-4 tomorrow (in the 90 degree heat) then running my HM the following day. Hydration is the name of the game this weekend.

Good luck to everyone racing and training this weekend. Go fast and stay safe!

John, 9-4 in the heat the day before your HM?  Whatever your time in the HM, we will take 15 minutes off to account for the heat drain.  We can call it your handicap, as in golf.

Hope the horse can handle it!

Good to hear all is well with your wife Dirk.

April's totals:
Bike:2h 22m 08s  - 38.12 Mi
Run:14h 36m 10s  - 100.93 Mi
Swim:3h 34m 59s  - 8150 Yd
Strength:2h 40m

My April totals are a bit misleading since there was a HM Race and Sprint Tri in the mix - and....I basically tapered 2 weeks in April.

Good news: Ankles have not been a problem for a month now - think thats now past.

Disappointing News: My back, specifically the right side - the middle of my back - feels like I'm getting poked and just hurts, especially while in the car or at my desk - go figure - work..... worst - it hurts sitting on the bike - whether on the hoods or the drops. I've scheduled a bike fit/tune up for Tuesday - hope that will help. In mean time, doctor office called, and the CT scan shows degenerative disc issues......doctor to call me with specifics on Monday - and I will have specific questions.....

Tomorrow is the Indianapolis Mini Marathon - and starts off the Month of May - Indy 500 parties - lots of fun stuff, espcially if you like racing. I've run in the race since 1997 - in the first years - just for the cooler/frisbee afterwards - nowdays I try to hoof it a bit (if under 1:50 - you get preferential coral for the next year) ---weather to be hot - not anticipating a PR - but it is always FUN and that's a big part of running anyway!

Plan is to not run next week - and concentrate on swim/bike  for the next two weeks. Both are good recovery workouts. The next few months concentrate on SPEED - and distance Maintenance - and try for a half under 1:40 this fall - and possibly run a trail marathon - I have never run a trail marathon.

June/July/August  = Tri season - and I plan for 1/month - but until some personal issues here at home are resolved - will be tough to cement a schedule.

Reading the posts - the group as a whole is making good progress and everyone seems to be training well. I like reading the posts - and what is helpful.

Samantha, it hasn't been long since i figured out that I enjoy running in a light rain.  It's almost like running in the snow for me.  It always seems a little more quiet or something.  The track seems like a great place to start some speed work.   I have never done track work because I enjoy the tempo runs.  Well, it's more of a love/hate thing because they kinda hurt a little.

BTW, looking at your volume for the past month I think you are more than ready for a race.  Don't let nerves get in your way for scheduling a race.  You have a good fitness already so don't let any external pressures keep you from racing.

Paul, I'm sorry to hear about your back.  Hopefully another bike fit will clear up any issues that may have come from the fit.  You may need to have a less aggressive fit done to keep the problem from worsening.  It might also be a good idea to talk to an ortho that has a background in triathlon to get some ideas if there are other options.

Also, good luck tomorrow for the "Mini."  I have run that race 3 times and enjoyed it quite a lot.  I quit running it because I thought it was a little too expensive for a HM.  I really enjoyed Giest last year but wouldn't commit to it this year.  the price for it is much better and it is a solid course with more challenges.

Paul, I'm sorry to hear about your back as well. I hope that it doesn't limit you in anyway and hope you get better news after you see the doctor. Good luck this weekend in the mini-marathon.

John, good luck with your half marathon this weekend. Stay cool and hydrated.

Dirk glad to hear your wife is doing fine following the procedure.

Dirk,

Glad to hear Lis is okay.  She's a real tough one, for sure.  Keep us up to date.  Prayers with you bro.

Paul,

Do what you can for your back.  If resting is what makes it feel better, definitely do that.  Don't push it until you find out some results from the Doc.  Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm having some dinner and hopefully getting to bed early tonight before my race tomorrow.  Looks like possibly wet conditions and chilly.  Can't wait!!!

Good luck to everyone else that's racing this weekend!

Aloha

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend. I am excited for you and anxious to hear how everyone does.

Dirk, I hope your wife is doing alright. Tell get to let you take care of her!

Dirk, Brenda, anyone else doing the Fort 4 fitness? Registration fees go up at Midnight tonight. Right now it is $45, a pretty good deal. I have yet to run in my first half marathon and am nervous to commit with all that is going on with my leg, but I think I am going to do it.

Jo, what is your clients name and where do they practice? I am going to keep my ears open. There are tons of people here, but maybe I will run into them.

Happy training and racing!

Good luck to everyone racing.  I'm deciding on my goals right now.  My mantra is coming from the Little Red Book of Running - "In the first half of the race, don't be an idiot.  In the second half, don't be a wimp."  I'm shooting for you Matt!

My husband just bought me this hydration system for my bike.  It's kinda cool.  I'll try it out tomorrow on my short, easy ride.

It looks like half the group is racing this weekend, wish I was one of them! I feel like I have been pushed into a force taper, ran 13 miles and biked maybe 20! I'm going nuts! I know I keep saying this, but I need to become a morning person! .........enough on me. Everyone have a great time racing this weekend and I will live my workouts through your race reports ......... Warren, I fully expect you to blow my time out of the water! Remember my time was on a double qtr pounder, and you have been doing something like 150miles a month! You have this easy! I'm sure you have the mental side not to be an idiot and the physical capability to avoid being a wimp!

And it is raining, I sure hope it stops soon. It will definetly suck if it rains the whole run.

Thanks Matt.  I think I overdid the carbo load yesterday as well.  For me it's not McD's, but pizza and ice cream.  If I told you how much more I weighed this morning than yesterday you wouldn't believe me!  Oh well, I do feel ready and I guess I'm just hoping to run a solid race start to finish.  I've had serious problems on my first two half marathons, so my main goal is to manage the race well.  If I do blow your time out, it won't be long before I'm in your rear view mirror given the work and improvements you're making.

Good luck again to all, and get those race reports done so we can experience the races with you.
