Thanks Todd. I'm excited and a bit sore from my workout yesterday.
I'm thinking to do a 40k or 50k ride up Table Rock in September.
Have a great workout everyone.

Nicole.........Excellent photos!!!

While not as many yards this week compared to the week of 8/3 I did complete a 1000 yard segment without stopping this morning; first time I'd done that distance without a rest (had a 700 yard segment last week)......so, felt pretty good about that milestone....

Sadly haven't been on the bike for over three weeks now.....shortage of time (even as a retiree!!!); gotta do better but I have 800 sq feet of hardwood to install now.....my body may not be happy with me!!

Thanks to all of you for the wardrobe advice. Very helpful information . Nicole, good luck on your ride this weekend. It's great that you and your family are doing so much together. Bill, your body is going to hate you after the hardwood!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wow what a great ride we had. The support was fantastic and my son was the only child doing the 50 miler. People were very encouraging. It was discouraging when a major part of the group turned off for the 30 miler. My son was a bit bummed out he liked the group feeling. We had 4 rest stops and we used them all. We even shot rifles at one. Kinda cool. Alex had his chain come off twice and once he was far back before I noticed. After some drama, tears and calming down some frustrations we were back on track. Cookies at the next rest stop helped with that. We stayed on top of eating every hour and on top of our water. After about mile 22 Alex and I were starting to feel our legs. We began singing and even got silly at the end making up our own songs. Nothing like charging down a hill singing Thunderstruck.
My husband had a great time on his 62 miler. We finished in 4 hour 28 minutes with actual moving time of 3 hours 58 minutes. It was cool my son asked if he could hit 50 miles before me. I told him he is 11, I'm 42 he is already beating me. I asked him if he wanted to do it first today and he said no he was good.
We shared some good times. I look forward to next weekend. I'm not as sore as I thought but I'm sure I will feel it tomorrow.

Sweet !
I couldn't think about taking any of my kids 50 miles at 11. I don't think I ever did that til I was 19 or 20.
We are just thinking about getting our Weblos to do 10 or 12 (with an ice cream stop in there towards the end)

Who is up for a Full Moon ride next weekend. While I think it is officially Saturday at 12:30pm for Denver, I am looking at least 34 again Friday night and quite possibly 50 (crazy friend who thought my ride sounded fun last month and wants to push it further.)

Scott- I don't think I could take my Webelos they hard a hard time with a 3 mile hike.

My son has some drive which is encouraging. My youngest wants to ride this weekend so this will be his first event ride. I will do the 16 miles with him, not quite sure if my Alex will do the 62 or 16. Somehow with him doing soccer he will probably take it easy. I don't blame him.
I got in a 25 mile ride today with my hubby. We had a headwind, for a portion he took the lead that was a nice break on my tired legs. We are doing yoga tomorrow. Maybe I can get in a jog. Then another ride on Thursday. Friday maybe I will get into the pool again. I haven't been in the pool for laps in about 1 1/2 months.
Alex and I both agreed 52 miles wasn't bad and we could have gone further. I think it is in the training. I never got really sore afterward.
Must mean my body is getting used to it. I even got the scale to move again. I'm down 18 lbs from when I started and have only 5 lbs to go. I imagine these will be the hardest.

One step in front of the other, one mile at a time is how I conquer the obstacle.

Good Luck Michelle on your Tri!!

I just did Ride for Research (Cancer) with my family. My husband just finished his metric. Alex, James and I did the 16 miler. With the ride to and from the event it made it a 25 miler. It was a casual ride with a few challenging hills. That was James's first ride event. Everyone was so proud and encouraging. We were not last this time!! Alex was proud but said "oh I did a 50 miler last week, like he was an old pro." It was kind of cute. There was a 15 yr old that rode as well. I guess there is a mountain biking team once they hit 7th grade.

Enjoy the full moon ride everyone.

Hey gang,

My first tri went great on Saturday! I was slow and toward the back of the pack but I was ok with that. Swim was a little more chaotic than I had expected, even being in the pool. For me I did good on the bike, however being on a mountain bike I was SO slow. A 20 yr old mtn bike at that. I did cut 15 minutes off my fastest 10 mile time though, so I sure can't complain about that. Run went well. I averaged 12 minute mile for the 2.5 miles which is good for me as well. Transitions went smooth. It was so rewarding! And there were only 3 in my age group so I got 3rd place in my AG. I laughed out Lloyd, but it was nice to get a prize! Several of the other participants told me I had to ditch the mtn bike before I did another one, so that us definitely something to consider. I will do another one! I loved it.

And the big 50 is today so I made my goal of a tri before 50. Thanks to all of you for the great advice and encouragement. What a great group you are!

Nicole congrats on your ride last weekend! I know you are thoroughly enjoying riding with your boys.

Have a great week everyone!

Congrats Michelle and a Happy 50th B-Day.

Don't kill yourself or your bank account trying to get a new bike. You just did one on a Mountain Bike and finished while enjoying yourself. If you have to do a few more with it, well then so be it, no harm no foul. When you do decide to buy one, let me give you a few tips. 1. Buy what you really want not just something you can afford at that moment (if you have to save for a while to get what you want then just keep riding what you have and do so), 2. Don't overlook used bikes locally, here on BT, craigslist (make sure though that you have tried several bikes and know what size you need so you don't buy something that does not fit and that you will not enjoy riding)

After much consideration and self debate, I have decided to say goodbye to BT (for the most part). I have been on BT for almost 5 years to the day and have gained knowledge, given knowledge, and been able to meet and share experiences with numerous people. I have noticed that I log on and post lately more out of habit than anything else. I also now think about what I could be doing with my time instead of being on this and three other forums, which I am giving up as well. I will likely still pop in once in a blue moon, to look at things, sell / purchase items, but it is going to be no where near a daily or even monthly thing for me anymore. If anyone needs anything or help with something feel free to PM me as the message will come to my email account. Don't be shocked if 6 months from now you get an inspire from me to go for a ride / run / or swim when I do pop in

Michelle- way to go! It sounds like your tri went well. That is exciting to meet your goal especially by your birthday. Happy 50th to you as well.

Todd I'm sorry that you're leaving but understand. Good luck and hope to "see" you around.

I am looking at what goals I have left for this year. I am still going to ride the Gran Fondo Hincapie Race in October with my Family. It is only 15 miles but it is up and down the mountain(part of it). I need to be working on hills. Plus it will be a bit colder out in October so that will be different as well.
This year so far:
I did a sprint triathlon,
I rode 52 mile bike ride
I have run a 5k with my children and they both finished.
I have more of a bond with my family.
I have dropped 18 pounds. I have lowered my cholesterol and fat percentage.
I can swim in the pool without holding my nose and I can ride down a hill without using my brakes. I can ride my bike in traffic confidently.
My question is what is next?
What is everyone else working toward?

If you don't dream of it and plan for it you don't ever seem to reach it.
