QUESTION GHOULIES.
im planning on running the PGH 1/2 IN MAY.
i was wondering, what should i maintain as my long run/base through the winter?
i was thinking 6-8 miles.
does that sound 'reasonable'?
last winter i was (re)building my base after my injury ie starting over from a BIG FAT ZERO so this winter maintenance/base trng is new to me.

I think 8 seems pretty sensible. Its a good middle ground so you are ready to hit your next half training plan and not too long to where you are really burning yourself out.
I was going to try 8-10 as my "maintenance" long run over the winter myself. If I can get over this hip thing that's the plan.
Although this would be the first time I haven't had to start my running over from scratch after the off season so I can't tell you how well the plan will work.
this is where i usually am going into a race season, starting over from scratch or close to it, always building volume/distance, never maintaining. so this all new to me too, NEAL.
i was originally thinking 8-10, and i talked to a marathon friend of mine and she does 5, 5, and 10 miles as her weekly runs through the winter. and i thought heh. she does FULLS and im only gonna do HALFs.
we talked and she thought 6-8 sounded 'reasonable'....
like you, i have a hip issue i have to consider. though im getting weekly trmnts for it, i dont expect it to be a limiter in anyway, i want to give my body the 'respect' that it needs/deserves.
i think what ill do is try a month of 6-8 miles, and then re-evaluate, see where im at mentally&physically. if its looking like i can bump it up a tad, i will, if not, then steady as i go.
i just dont want to lose anything and i dont want to push harder than whats necessary.
that SWEET SPOT right in between.
and i suppose the only way ill find that SPOT for me is by trail and error.
thanks again, NEAL, i really appreciate your input!
