Expert 913 Lost in the Evergreens | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Hi every one. Hope you all had a very merry Christmas and are planning a happy New Year. I'm enjoying some quiet time around the house this morning to plan my new year. Not the one day celebration, I'm working out the whole year. In draft it looks like 4 half marys. That may be hail mary's. Oh lets hope the knee is happy, when my knee is happy I run happy. Also looking to fit into 2013, three HIM, 2 oly's and a sprint. While I'm not racing Ironman next year, I've committed to Volunteer at the bike yard and in registration. Oh Canada....... Hope every one is happy and healthy, and wish you all the best new year. PS: You can count me in for another year of LRR. |

Regular 113 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Hope everyone is getting ready for a great 2013. I am also planning next year, main goal is to be more consistent in training which will be required as my ironman is November (Florida, not IMAZ...) So far a few half marys, still need to fit in a HIM on the way there, probably in the June time frame and then just consistent training. I actually did more in December than any other month prior to July which I can feel just about everywhere. I'll be back for next year as well, I had a blast getting to know all of you and reading the posts this year, thanks! See you in 2013! Pam |

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 If you successfully complete all of your New Year's Resolutions each year, you may stop reading and go to the next thing on your to do list, otherwise keep reading. I have never been a big fan of New Year's Resolutions. Why not? That's easy - over 2/3 of resolutions never go anywhere, nothing materially changes, and after a few short "now I feel better about myself" workouts, healthy meals, or fewer cocktails...things revert to the norm, the old "reversion to the mean" theory. Why is that? I think it is easy - resolutions are too broad - too unfocused - and typically not well planned. Similar to most people's goal setting process - there is no process. Little to no accountability. And no prize identified at the beginning, to work toward attaining. How should you do it? Be careful here - this is where the "watch out what you wish for" warning comes into play. Big, Bold Statement Warning - NO DREAM IS TOO BIG IF YOU WANT IT BAD ENOUGH. There - I said it - say it with me - NO dream is too big if I want it bad enough. As I cautioned you, be careful - this is how my Ironman quest began. It took almost three year to get there. Would you work three years for your dream? What about thirteen? Or thirty? It might take that long. But the journey begins in a matter of seconds - it's called commitment. Here's another word you won't like - change. Yep, it's change. I know you don't like change. Get over it. It's a requirement. Don't kid yourself. It won't happen without change. Remember that whole "insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results"? That's also the definition of stupidity, dumb, simple-minded, frustration and failure. It doesn't work and it won't work for you. So suck it up, buttercup. By definition we agree change is required. So here's how it work. 1 Select the dream. 2 write down the steps to achieve it 3 write down the obstacles 4 figure out what it takes to overcome the obstacles 5 determine if the steps to achieve and the steps to overcome the obstacles are "worth it" - in other words - is the PRIZE worth the PRICE. Simple, right? Yes it is SIMPLE - just not EASY. Lets look at each step, here's how my Ironman dream became reality. 1 The dream/goal/resolution: complete a triathlon. 2 Steps - the original triathlon I found in 2007 was a super sprint distance. Swim - 200 yards Bike - 9 miles Run 1.25 miles Seemed doable but I needed a plan - so I found a training plan online. The training was reasonable and the time required to train was okay and the weeks left to train were acceptable. Lets do this. 3 Obstacles - I don't own a bike. I play in the water, I don't SWIM. I haven't run in 25 years, seriously. I don't know if I can do this. This was the big one. 4 overcoming obstacles. No bike - Debbie said "buy a bike" Can't swim? Do some research, maybe take a lesson. I think I can swim 200 yards. No running for 25 years? Two feet, two socks, two shoes - start slowly and see what you can do each day. The big one - confidence. Debbie was very supportive from the first mention of this crazy idea. She and our daughter Taylour were the only people who knew I was doing this - I didn't want to let them down. Or myself. Was the prize worth it? Oh yeah it was. That crazy little triathlon led to my first Ironman finish in 2009 but it also taught me a lot more. It taught me I could do what I wanted to do, if I wanted it bad enough. It taught me the process. It is a process that works in all parts of life when applied. Two final thoughts - eliminate negative thought and talk. Nothing negative. Negative people in your life - avoid them. You may find they are holding you back. Look for reasons why you WILL do something - why you CAN do something. Finally, share your plan with someone. Be sure they are positive and will support you BUT also hold you accountable. They can let you slack. They are there to help you achieve your dream. If you can't think of anyone to help you with this step, let me know. I will help you. No excuses, dream big, do it. Commitment. That is all. |

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Happy New Year! I am still here, trying to figure my way around. I finally found a gym to join in the new hometown, it is about 40 minutes away and that was the closest. Been trying to get back in the habit of waking up early and getting to the pool before work. With the 40 minute drive versus the 5 minutes that I had before it means getting up even earlier. Yuck! Looking forward to another year of LRR! Kathy |

Expert 885 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 I'm still trying to figure out my year as well. No BIG races on the calendar (at least right now), but I do have a few races lined up already, starting with a half marathon next weekend. It will be slow as I am doing it with my Aunt and her fastest pace so far is a 15 minute mile. But, it should be fun. Also doing some fun stuff this year to hopefully move myself in the direction of coaching. I am doing a YogaFit certification class in January, the Road Runner's Club of America run coach certification in February, and studying for my personal trainer exam. I'm very excited about it all. Just hope I can keep up. Looking forward to having some new folks join the group. |

Veteran 201 Long Island | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Happy New Year to all. Count me in for this year. I have signed up for HIM, Musselman in July. So excited!! Will probably do Half marathon and an Oly before, just not sure which ones. My change for this year is to work out earlier. I haven't figured out the logistics yet but I am going to when my HIM training officially starts. This week end may give me some time to start planning my workouts. For me, I think partnership is key. I need to meet some one at the gym at the tough, early hours, accountability. I hope to be online this week end, so be well, all of you awesome athletes and thank you for your ongoing support this year. Hugs!! |

Veteran 140 Quail Valley | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 My first goal of the year is to get healthy. Its been a crazy 6months at my house. I took 3 1/2 weeks off and my upper hamstring and lower(@the back of my knee) still bothers me. I have an appointment with a chiropractor on tuesday. I have used others before and been really successful. If this doesn't work it maybe a long recover and I can't afford that. Second is do all my club races ' Third Ragnar ultra in april. Fourth get on here more!!!! I am going to just do a bunch of random races along the way. I just want to stay in great shape. I want to do an Ironman next year and Boston. |

I'd really like to do run coaching and triathlon coaching, but getting into the USAT Level I Triathlon Coaching Clinic is extremely challenging these days. They have made it so that you pretty much have to already BE a coach to get accepted. So, I am going about other avenues of getting certified so that I can get insurance and have the credibility. Hopefully, I can get some clients and then eventually get accepted into the USAT clinic. I just want to help people find something they enjoy and help them get/stay fit. |

For the ladies in the group...............where do you place your heart rate strap? When I first started I was wearing it up close to the heart and then last year someone told me to wear it below the sports bra. Was just curious on where everyone wears theirs. |

I'm so sorry I've been MIA so much! I'm catching up and will post soon... Kathy, I have always worn it under the sports bra. DIdn't know there was any other way lol. Word of the wise (from experience lol), put a lot of Body Glide where you will wear the strap... my worse chafe spots on long runs are from the stupid strap! |
