Good Luck to all Racing today and tomorrow!

Warren, I am feeling confident your HM will exceed your expectations.  I expect your going to have a very solid PR when it's all said and done.

Jonathon and Allison, your races today have me seriously chomping at the bit to race myself!  I have 2 more weeks before I have my first race and it's killing me.  Especially today with everyone else racing.

Tracy, that hydration system looks pretty nice.  I makes me think of the new Specialized Shiv with the bladder in the frame.  I am curious what kind of aerodynamic performance something like that would have.

Lis is doing really awesome.  The procedure she was having done was not very invasive (endoscopy) but she worries a lot of "making it through" for any surgery that requires a general anesthetic.  We have to wait on the results of the testing now.  She has been losing weight since her gall bladder was removed and the docs are concerned about it.  I think she looks HAWT myself but then I might be a little partial.  She's much leaner than she has been in years but is still 20 lbs heavier than when we met in HS.  When we got married she weighed a scale tilting 92 lbs and now shes around 112lbs.  I have told her that I believe her weight loss is much more to do with a loss of appetite since her surgery and she thinks she's eating a lot.  It's not even close to what she used to eat.  I am certain she is in a calorie deficit nearly everyday and she never ate that much to start with.

Anyway, time for me to hit the streets!  I have a 13 mile run and a 40-50 mile ride today.........I hope!

Good luck again to all those racing this weekend. I missed my swim this morning as I just could not getyself up at 6:30 am this morning so I was looking forward to getting out on the bike for a couple of hours and now it's raining out. I guess I am going to be doing that on the trainer today. I'll make up the swim during the week since I will have a recovery week upcoming next week. Hope everyone has a great weekend train/race hard and be safe.

I had a very amazing long run.  All 13 miles went very smooth and fast.  I was really surprised by how fast the time went by while running.  I guess it was just one of those runs that seemed to come together well.  The way I felt when I got out of bed this morning wasn't nearly as friendly as the run turned out to be.  I was extremely comfortable for the whole run and I even clicked up the run a notch at the 11 mile mark.  I turned it up a touch on the speed side and cruised for a mile at close to my HM goal pace and I still felt light and untouchable.  I felt like I could have cooked another couple of miles without any stress to my system at all.  Had I not had a long ride coming this afternoon I may have ran a couple of more miles just for fun.

It was awesome today!  Now I hope my legs hold out for a 40-50 mile ride in about 3 hours.

I felt the same weight of HEAVY everything this morning when I got out of bed.  Our dog, that usually will sleep all day, got out of bed this morning when I could have slept in a little longer.  I got up to allow Lis to sleep longer and snuck out of the bedroom with the mutt.

The trainer ride can be a big help for cycling.  Make sure if you can't get outside for the ride that you hit some really tough work on the trainer.  Try something like 5x5 minutes (w/2 minute recovery) at a high intensity after a good 10 minutes of WU and then allow for 5-10 minutes of CD.  If you aren't cooked after that you didn't work hard enough.  LOL

So I must say I have not made very many post since first joining this group but I do hop on here from time to time and try to catch up with everything you guys are chatting about.   You have all helped continue my motivation to keep exercising and I have now completed my first race!

Extremly stoked with the results.  It was the New Jersey Devilman .4 swim 20.5 bike & 4 run  I finished 156 out of 234 with a total time of 2:10:55.

Welcome back and great job, triathlete.  The first one is for fun, and you rocked it.

I see you still have that September 70.3 on your race list - if that on the docket?  Join in and keep us updated on your progress.

Good news: Ankles have not been a problem for a month now - think thats now past.

Disappointing News: My back, specifically the right side - the middle of my back - feels like I'm getting poked and just hurts, especially while in the car or at my desk - go figure - work..... worst - it hurts sitting on the bike - whether on the hoods or the drops. I've scheduled a bike fit/tune up for Tuesday - hope that will help. In mean time, doctor office called, and the CT scan shows degenerative disc issues......doctor to call me with specifics on Monday - and I will have specific questions.....

Tomorrow is the Indianapolis Mini Marathon

It's good to see you back on.  Hope the run was fun and sorry to hear about your back.

Well I got another ride in!  Most weekends I get at least one ride in with my dad, and we did another together today.  I was set on doing 13.8 miles (my normal route), and as we got to the turnaround point (it's an out and back route), my dad asked if I wanted to go a little further and ride around the lake (which I had never done, but had been wanting to check out after I discovered that area just a couple weeks ago).  So I ended up riding a tad extra, and it was a nice area!  Best of all, traffic free!! It was in a newish subdivision so the roads were smooth, as well as being wide, with green scenery.  3-4 miles with no traffic, no stops, no cracks in the roads = very nice!!  I'm sure every state that gets winter weather says this, but really, Michigan road are AWFUL, so to have that stretch was something!

I didn't test out that hydration system today.  I had to get a little tri bike love.  (I put the hydration thing on my road bike.)  It was so incredibly windy out there!  There were several times when I could not be in aero.  I just couldn't control the bike.  One gust caught me off guard while in aero.  I was grabbing onto the bike with my knees! Surprised  It was still a fun ride!

Samantha - that's awesome on the ride.  I know exactly what you mean with the roads, ours are a mess as well after winter.  It's great that you found some nice pavement.

Tracy - sounds like you made a good choice on the road bike.  Gusty cross winds can be dangerous.

Just finished my last run tuneup.  2+ miles with a few spin ups to race pace.  HR was great and effort felt good, but I was getting cramps towards the end!  I've never had that before, so I'm assuming it's from all the water I've been drinking and the fact that I've eaten more since last night's dinner than I typically do.  I'm going to have an early and fairly light dinner and hope it's a one off.

Dirk thanks for the suggestion I will probably give that a go next week and try to do some higher intensity workout on the trainer. Today I got in two hours on the trainer at a pace that I could keep comfortably without killing myself. It was my longest ride so to speak to date at a little over 36 miles for avg speed of about 18 miles an hour. The other thing that was good about this was I was able to test some things out with my nutrition for longer rides and I found that I did not take in enough calories today. So not only did I get a decent workout today I also got educated on my nutrition plan which should help me in the long run.

One of our local roads used to horrible.  The county was gracious enough to repave it while I pregnant.  What a treat when I got back on my bike! Tongue out

Samantha sounds like you had a great ride today and it's great anytime that you can find a quiet traffic free place to ride. That is like one of the biggest challenges that I have here and if you don't have to stop much that is even better.

Tracy sorry to hear about all the wind on your ride today that seems like the norm for me anytime I go out to ride. Let us know how the hydration system works when you get the chance to try it out.

Wind sucks!

I put in two days on the rode with wind over 30mph+. At one point I thought I was going backwards. LOL I look at the cateye and I'm going 9mph into a headwind and uphill. Really thought about turning around.

Race report: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/races-edit.as... Mini - humidity level higher than the temp - the after race party was a lot of fun.

1:47:08, ok - considering - ran smart, went out slower than I normally would - was reason I had some in the tank to finish.

Samantha,  that ride with your dad sounds great.  I hope that one day when my girls get older they will be willing to spend that kind of time with the old man.  I am very sure your dad looks forward to these Saturday rides.

AJ,  I'm glad to see your still dong some training and now that you've gotten a race under your belt you've probably been bitten by the tri bug and you can't get away from it now.

Paul, good race.  I know a lot of people that were down there this year.  It kind of makes me wish I had ran it this year.  Your time is a pretty solid time, likely placing you in the top 20% of finishers.

I have my training day complete.  I got a 13 mile run in this morning to celebrate all the HM racers this weekend, came home mowed the grass and trimmed and then headed out for a 48 mile ride.  This was not a normal Saturday by any stretch but one I was happy to complete.  I missed the run yesterday and needed a long run and ride this week and this was the only way to do it.  Now I have to plan on an early 7 mile easy run tomorrow morning and then a 30 mile ride in the afternoon..............

.............Hi, my name is Dirk and I am a Junkie!

Tummy trouble, clingy children and a stressed out husband = a crappy ride for me today. The weather was perfect, NO WIND, 80 degrees and I didn't even get chased by any dogs! Unfortunately, starting out the ride with my stomach turning, then taking in half a gel at the turn around point lead to a very rough finish.

Note to self, taking a gel will not help your stomach settle down......

Don't worry, I made it back to the van but the ditch on the side of the road was looking pretty good!
