barqhead - 2007-12-08 10:35 PM What did the doc say about your shoulder?
"Tendonitis." She didn't feel it was a rotator cuff tear because the pain didn't worsen when I lift my arms. So she lumped it into a generic inflammation category, I guess. LOL Oh, and she said ice wouldn't hurt it. (Yeah, like that's gonna happen. I hate anything cold.)

Umm isnt water cold when you swim in it?

Not at my pool. They use it for rehab, so the water is around 86 F (30 C). It's like a large bathtub. Unfortunately, I am now used to bathtub water, which means it will be horrible if I ever need to swim anyplace else. LOL

Ugh Id get really dehydrated and frustrated... you must adapt better than me!

I just realized that I am finishing up my 4th consecutive week with no running or cycling - my foot is marginally better - at least it's not swelling up quite as much

I sure hope it's 100% by the end of the month - If I want to do the entire distance at the HyVee tri in June, I have got to get running again

Dee swims in really warm water if I remember right - not necessarily by choice though

Heh, no. I like it now.

Of course, I'd like it better if it wasn't cloudy, and salty, and slimy, and smelly....

Some days, it's fine. Other days, it's pretty nasty.

It's also the ONLY pool in three counties. So it's not like I have a lot of options.

barqhead - 2007-12-08 10:41 PM That's what I thought. I've been in this sport long enough to know what MD's do with soft tissue injury. RICE, NSAIDs. If it still bothers you, we'll do an expensive MRI and tell you, yeah, it's tendonitis.
Yeah, I wasn't surprised when she said "tendonitis." But at least she didn't say "rotator cuff." That would have been worse. She asked if the pain was bad enough to require a cortisone shot. Uh, no thanks.

ewww, i had a cortisone shot once, when i popped a tendon out of place playing racquetball, all it did was mask the pain and I abused it to the point of requiring surgery

yep - no thanks

Another good reason to avoid the MD. Although I don't want to end up with surgery, either.

Yes - there are a lot of pools in Sydney.... I think the one a LC is about 26 degrees... bearable, the one at the uni (the indoor one) I think I saw at about 29 degrees

I also have access to an outdoor pool near the harbour (a bit of a drive), the LC outdoor pool (not heated) in summer only, the Uni outdoor pool and the Epping Pool which is also outdoors.

You just pay a fee to use the pool each time you turn up so... I guess its up to you how often you want to go...

Thats the pools within access to home... well driving distance thats not ridiculous...

You should be ok, especially if you get healthy by March. Three months should be plenty of time to build up and train for that distance safely. People tell me that after about a month of regular training, you should be back to your previous fitness level. Please do not burst my bubble on this one. I hope it is true.

This is the only pool within about an hour's drive (one-way).

(Have I mentioned lately that I need to move?)

On the plus side, not many people want to brave the salty, slimy water. So I usually get a lane to myself. Or, if I wait 10 min, I get one then.

Swimming isn't a big activity around here.

OK, ladies. I'm heading to bed. Gonna ride at 10am tomorrow with a bunch of men. Have a feeling I'm gonna be dragging my azz up the mountains all by lonesome. They did ride 70 miles today. Hopefully they will be really tired so I can keep up. Night night.

again, I'm lucky in the pool department - almost all the gyms around here have pools and I belong to 24 hr and have the open access, so I can go to one of 4 locations in the city

I mostly go between two

in the brand new one (which is closest to my house) they only put in a 2 lane pool - how dumb is that?  It's the largest facility, with the smallest pool
