sesh - 2008-07-16 11:22 PM That race sounds awesome, Beth.  You never forget your first time LOL.

it will be fun!

and yes - you never forget your first time - my first tri was awesome

did you know........I actually didn't even own a bike when I registered for my first tri?

So did you start a mad scramble to get one or did you borrow one?

I pretty much started a mad scramble and bought one - which in hindsight, I wish I would have waited and just borrowed one

unfortunately what I bought is just slightly too big for me - it works fine for short distances, but I don't think I could ever do a 1/2 IM distance on it - well, I could - but it just wouldn't be the most comfortable

LOL!

I think I need to have more than one bike to completely understand

but - it seems to make some sort of sense!

Guh... I have three right now.   Heck, by this time next year I plan on having built a single speed, and a buddy of mine wants me to get a mountain bike.  I also liked building Marie so much that I wouldn't mind finding a vintage frame or two and going at it.  Hi I'm, Bill, and I have a bike problem.

Anybody want to buy an '06 Trek 1000?

heh - there are worse problems to have

Spokes - 2008-07-16 10:00 AM The humidity and elevation (DSM is at 1K feet) and heat are killing me on the run.

Ugh... we actually got a nice break from the humidity here yesterday.  It was a cool 93 degrees.. if that exists.

Oh, and you probably missed the post, Scott, but a Trace Patrolman pulled a guy over for passing to close to me yesterday.  It was pretty awesome.  Well, the dude getting pulled over was awesome, the inches he was from my handlebars was not.

Bill, that's awesome!  I'm glad the patrolman took the time to pull him over.  Hopefully the guy he pulled over got the message.  Sad stuff like this doesn't make the local paper so that motorists at least think twice before doing something STUPID...

Same thing I do every morning, Pinky.  Trying to take over the world.

Actually I'm just shirking quite horribly.  Nibbing and watching the tour.

Too small

I've got an older Trek 1400 at the moment and like it quite a bit. Although... I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick up a Tri bike around February.

Good morning, Nibbs.

On the docket for today: grocery store, vacuuming, banking, swim practice downtown for DD, chiro appt. and somehow a trainer ride, although my bum is taking a beating from all the miles recently. If I could, I would switch my swim from tomorrow to today and to the drainer ride tomorrow, but I don't see how that is going to happen.

The trace is really nice.  It's a National Park, not a highway, so the Park Rangers treat it as such.  50mph speed limit and 53 gets you a ticket.  Plus, they always help us out on organized rides and the tri they have on it.  Problem is that it makes a nice cut through route off the interstate to heavy residential area, so traffic has really increased.  But, so has the number of bikers on it, so most drivers are aware of us.  And there's always the patrolmen.  Always!  I see two or three every time I ride.

That's awesome! Especially since the patrolmen are bike-friendly.

Yeah...finally got the last question. It's from my adviser and I feel like it's the hardest one. He made up for it by giving me "extra time" and said I could turn it in before the weekend. Except that I have to turn it in by Friday morning so we can leave. I'm frustrated with him.

See you all later. Back to the grind.

Good luck!

I had a VERY intimidating adviser in grad school. In fact, he was kind of a jacka$$ , and his heavy German accent didn't do anything to smooth that fact over. It was also kind of weird that my dad was this guy's GA when he was college. He turned out to be really cool the last few weeks though. Tough no doubt, but respectful of the effort and quite congrulatory when it was all said in done. So, with the work you're putting in, I'm expecting much the same. You'll do fantastic!

Thanks.  That is good to know.  My adviser sounds a lot the same.  Just have to get through this right now and then I get a break.

Good luck Jen!

My Trek is sort of a mercenary.  Bought him for rehab, and he got me into cycling as a result.  Never got his name, though.  Kind of like a hired gun.  Showed up, did his job, didn't say much, and now he's ready to move on.
