Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Troy, that is a nice sweat cave! I have cave envy right now. We have quickly outgrown our little rentyal house and a sweat cave is not in the plans. I am trying to reconfigure some things so I can get an area to set up my trainer that Santa will bring. I hit the pool yesterday to get back into training mode. Did 1050 yd swim in 19:45. Thats about a 1:51/100. Gonna get back on the bike today and do a 22 miler. Feels good to get back at it! Scott, best of luck in your race. I expect to see a long list of sad, depressed people after you get done! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Where is everybody? Hit the road yesterday for an 18 mile bike ride and I dragged a$$. Took me 1:04. We had heavy wind gusts but I can't use that as an excuse. I just plain suck on the bike. I think my routes are challenging because I am racing faster than I am training. Gonna go for 3 mile run today to get the legs back after being off last week. This will be 3 days in a row! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello? (crickets chirping) Anybody out there? How can I be the only one posting the last 3 days? did the group move somewhere and not tell me? Hmmmm... went for a 3.75 mile slow run yesterday to get the legs back. I did a 9 minute mile pace. I am going to start pumping it up on the run and bike- need to finish at 20mph on the bike training and 8 minute miles on the run. Anybody got any exciting training news?

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well if the storms will pass I have a pretty cool training session this morning. Our local Tri club is putting on a Triathlon clinic where we will do each leg of the course with instruction and suggestions from experts especially during the transition areas. This will give me a great preview of the course I am doing in September as well as give me an opportunity to practice and learn from the best. Really looking forward to it. I plan to do each leg with race performace so I can have a good idea of my times. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm deep into Philly Marathon training. Heading out for a 14 miler in 10 hours which should be great. Just finished a 200K relay race and met an 18 year old who did his first tri ever this year, Ironman Lake Placid, and qualified for Kona. Pretty intense! - David Colman |

I'm doing Philly this year too! Running it with my daughter (her first). But I'm doing a 12 week program, so it officially starts this weekend. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice. This will be my first full although I have done the half a few times and I'm about to start seriously getting out of my comfort zone but training is injury free so far (maybe due to tri = cross training?) and I'm feeling good. - David Colman |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys! My brother got married on Saturday - had a great time at the wedding and got really drunk at the reception (I drink once a year - if that) ... the morning of the wedding my brother and I got in a 2.2 mile ocean swim that we did in about an hour - was raining and the beach was completely clear at 6am except for surfers - was really a great swim. We then ran the 2.2 miles back on the boardwalk. Great start to a long fun day - needless to say after the late late night and the heavy drinking - yesterday was an off day. Started today off with a 6.2 mile run in 59 minutes ... next up will be hopping on the bike for an hour and a half - then kid duty the rest of the day for me. Have a sprint this coming Sunday - definitely ready for that and promise to pace correctly so I can have a solid run. This is my last "tune up" before my Olympic and Half IM races in September. Wow - Scotts race simulation is really cool - it looks like he started in a late wave on the swim and never found his groove. I am anxious to read his race report. On the bike he looked solid - appears he passed a ton of people and was not passed by many. I would be so stoked with a 7:33 pace on a 10k in this distance ... not sure how Scott feels about it but I would be elated. That gym set up you have is pretty sweet Troy ... my bike is on a trainer in the office - my wife hates when I have to mop up pools of sweat off the hardwood floors. Eventually (when I win the lottery) I will convert part of the garage into a training room. Right now my weights are behind a couch in the living room - glad my wife puts up with this stuff. Nicole - I am in the same boat as you - my pool is closed for maintenance and will be for three weeks - my option to train with my group is an outdoor pool that is much farther away so I have opted out for now. There is a pool on my way from work I have swam at once but in the grand scheme of things my swim is what it is - my run needs the most work so my emphasis now until the half IM is working on the run and bike/run bricks. Hope your half marathon training is going well! Ashley - Great that somehow you are finding the balance to get in training with the babies in the house. Sorry I haven't gotten on much in the last two weeks to offer encouragement but your efforts and improvements are impressive. David - best wishes on your marathon training. My brother lives in Philly and I am fairly certain I will be in Philly that weekend cheering him on in the half - hell there is a chance I will join him if I come out healthy from the season. Either way I plan to pick your mind (and Troy's) in regards to marathon training and nutrition ... looks like I will be doing my first in January ... in Lake Mead, NV ... 8/6 - 8/12 - 12 hours of training 8/13 - 8/19 - 6 1/2 hours of training This week's plan is 11 1/2 hours (which includes the 1:03:00 that I plan to complete the sprint in) ... let's see if I can keep to the lan ... Hope everyone has a productive week! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Everyone, Sorry I've been out of the loop, works been CRAZY! Which leaves me only enough time to train and take care of the family stuff, PC time is waaaaaaay down. Congrats on those twins Ashley! Hopefully you're getting some sleep, and get used to the fact that they never do things at the same time. You're gonna feel like you are perpetually changing diapers! Saw a couple people got some races in, I'm jealous! I'm training for the Army 10 Miler now but don't think I'm going to be able to find another tri this year. Oh well. But no more tris has gotten me a little blue. there are a couple of tris that I debated but between schedule and the fact that one is a pool swim of only 400 meters I'm opting out of them. Training has been kind of going through the motions at times, but I'm keeping it up as best I can. Just feels like I'm in a doldrums right now. Paul that's a crazy swim you got in there! Congrats to both you and your brother! My pool is going to be closing down in a week and a half and then it will be back indoors. We'll see how that switch goes. Happy training everyone! -Matt |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning peeps! Just in from 6.2 miles. Definitely into the run focus now. My daughter is dealing with some ankle pain, so her training is taking a hit. I sure hope we get to run Philly together. Paul ... That's an impressive swim time! We had carved out that corner of the basement and turned it into a "guest room" when my brother moved to VT he lived down there for about 2 years, but it was never a great guest room after that ... always that lingering basement smell. Great for a workout room though. I was surprised at how cheap it was to get the rubber flooring down and put a cheap flat screen on the wall. No cable hook up or anything, so just something to run yoga DVDs and connect my laptop for TrainerRoad. With a wifi DVD player, we can tap into Netflix and Slacker Radio. Marianne is down there right now with a YouTube Bootcamp work out. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello my gang. I have been out for a while. It sometimes takes me a bit to process a race, and considering that I have been training for a year for this one I needed some space from it all in order to really understand what happened out there. Nationals: The swim was a complete and udder $hit show. 4 foot swells, impossible sighting and swam way off line. Someone died in that swim so I can't complain too much, if at all. My normal 100 yd pace for that kind of swim is 1:40-1:42. I averaged 2:05. Ouch. I swallowed water, I got lost, about everything that could go wrong in a swim did for me. I was glad to be done with it. T1: I usually save vomiting for the end of a race, but T1 seemed like a good place. Heave for a minute, got my bike and I was off. Bike: Had a good ride. averaged 21.6 mph. I was happy and remembered to smile and enjoy myself. Run: The most impressive piece of the day for me. I felt strong and healthy during the run. 46:54. I have never run an open 10k before and this is my best 10k time in a tri so I was very pleased with how I finished the race. I got socked with a 2 minute penalty somewhere on the ride. I tried to stay right and pass left, but sometimes found myself riding left because there were so many people to pass on the ride. That's the only thing I can think I may have done wrong. I learned a lot from the swim and I feel as though it made me a better swimmer. Onward. I signed up for another race this Sunday at Lake Dunmore. I didn't want my season to end like that. We'll see. I am also looking to sign up for the VT city marathon next May so I can work on getting my running legs back. Thanks for being here guys and girls. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey, Scott! Glad to see you posting!! It may not have been the race you hoped for but coming away learning something is still a good race and being strong on the bike and run after a crappy swim is even better. I'm sure you'll get your revenge at Lake Dunmore!! So, running is priority for me right now whit a HM coming up next month-especially since I'm using it as a fundraiser. Because of scheduling constaints over the past few and upcoming weeks it's been really hard to get my long runs in. Because of this I was seriously considering backing out of my sprint tri this weekend to get a long run in-however, I managed to do it yesterday. I may not be completely recovered by the tri on Saturday but I'm going to show up and race anyway. It won't be a great race but there's a lot less pressure when you know you'll be DFL anyhow. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() @ Scott Glad to hear you had a strong ride and run. Also cool to see how even you take learning opportunities at a national level event. *************** Well my first Triathlon is September 15th and approaching fast. This will be a sprint distance and like I've recently said I am completely ready and should have no problem with the distance. Some locals are hosting a Half Iron distance in October here in my city that I would love to participate in. It's 8 weeks out and I have quite a few friends doing it however I just don't know that there is enough time to put it all together by then. I'm pretty sure I can swim the distance by then, I can ride the distance now, and I'm pretty sure I can run the distance by then but putting it all together I am really unsure about. Can't decide if I should go for it or get a few Olympic distances under my belt first. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My daily routine: 1. smell something funny. 2. figure out which butt it is and take diaper off. 3. clean baby. 4. put on new diaper. 5. switch babies. 6. locate 2 year old. 7. repeat steps 1-4. 8. repeat all I hope everyone is doing well. I am glad to see everyone is still training. Scott, good race. Things always happen that are beyond your control. Nothing you can do. The training has taken a bit of a hit. I'm not out there everyday like I want to be but I knew it would happen. We wil get into a routine eventually and I'll get back to solid training. I am debating on canceling my last race on 9/23. I had an 8 week swim/bike/run plan that I wanted to do to prepare with but it is scratched. My MIL is in town for 3 days so I'll get a few good essions in. I went on 31 mile slow poky (1:55) ride yesterday. I'm going to hit the pool today. Run tomorrow. Good luck to anybody racing this weekend. I planned on volunteering at the Louisville IM Sunday but I don't know if it will happen. I will train vicariously through all of you!

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Meant to train today but was nodding off on my ride home from work. After the commute I sat on the couch and removed my boots ... 4 hours later my phone was ringing and my mom was asking if I was ok (I was late to pick up my sons) ... missed my 2 1/2 hour planned brick of bike/run. Have to go with my body on this one - burning the candle from both ends is not always good. My plan tomorrow is to take my road bike up and preview the race course Sunday and then do the run ... short sprint with 15k bike, 5k run and since it is turns and with hills I may forgo the TT bike altogether and go aero helmet and hammer - we'll see after I get a feel for the course. Supposedly one mile in there is a hill that causes half the field to walk. Unfortunately I am in the 8th wave and this race has 1200 registered participants - even if I have a mediocre swim the bike course should be VERY crowded. It is not a USTA race so I guess I can draft and race hard left - again we will see. Side comment - I do not miss diaper duty. Cool note - I am now a member of TeamNewSkin ... looking forward to getting my kit and looks like I will be doing some fall 5k and 10k races to fulfill my obligations - especially since it appears they will pay my entrance fee to the events ... purely a running gig so we'll see if I can't try to rep well and put up some nice times for them (sweet now I have another goal post Half Ironman) ... |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What happened to our group? Guess everybody been busy. Had a nice 30 mile ride this morning. Was supposed to be a recovery ride but I ended up really pushing my self and broke a PR. Hadn't had a PR in a while so was nice. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Podium finish!! Placed third in clydes - will write a race report tonight ... Ripped a leg off my wetsuit putting it on (not good) - stayed calm though and came up with an idea ... 8th wave with 185 people in a race with 1200+ makes for a crowded bike course and I caught people from 2 prior swim waves ... had an ok swim that would have been great if I had not gon off course ... hammered the bike ... ran the whole course first 1.5 miles all uphill - the rest down hill - was challenging and fun. Placed 271 overall - 244th male. Other than the problem on the swim and my usual crappy transitions I am elated ... last race as a clyde (most likely) and now to come up with a new wetsuit and be ready for an olympic on 9/9 ... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Guys Been missing in action lately as have just come back from vacation, me and the wife went to Italy and what a beautiful place it was. Temperature was far to hot for running, but managed to swim every day, managing 1000 metre every day!! Since we have got back, have found it hard to get my self out of bed in the mornings to train, but have reevaluated and will be hitting hard from today onwards. Have quite a packed few weeks so need to get some serious training in, currently have booked in 10k race 9 Sept 10k race 23 Sept Sprint Triatlhon 30 Sept Half Marathon 14 Oct Work also not currently giving me a lot of time to train in the evenings, so hopefully we can get bak into getting up early in the mornings!! Congratulations to anybody who has raced, great to see a podium finisher in our group!! Also belated congratulations to Ashley on the latest additions to his family!! Gareth |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just completed my first run after self revaluation.... 6.37 miles in 1hr 13 secs, 9.26 minutes a mile, bit slower than I normally run (9.12) but raining very heavy and also ran a new route with a few hills thrown in!! All in all happy with that!! Same again tomorrow me thinks!!! Gareth |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gareth - welcome back! Our family vacation is in October and I am trying to plan how I will fit in a workout everyday (because I am psycho). My fuel belt is too loose - I did a 10k run this morning and my belt dropped three times and it was as tight as it would go ... guess I need a size smaller or need to figure out how to modify. I am looking at switching to Ultraspire belts but they seem to always be out of stock (online). Frustrating how much I just keep having to spend spend spend BUT I am becoming better stronger faster ... feel much better since the surgery ... |
