Scott you have some great goals, I need to check out what events are coming up locally. I love the idea of pumpkin pie after the race.

Hey gang,

My first tri went great on Saturday! I was slow and toward the back of the pack but I was ok with that. Swim was a little more chaotic than I had expected, even being in the pool. For me I did good on the bike, however being on a mountain bike I was SO slow. A 20 yr old mtn bike at that. I did cut 15 minutes off my fastest 10 mile time though, so I sure can't complain about that. Run went well. I averaged 12 minute mile for the 2.5 miles which is good for me as well. Transitions went smooth. It was so rewarding! And there were only 3 in my age group so I got 3rd place in my AG. I laughed out Lloyd, but it was nice to get a prize! Several of the other participants told me I had to ditch the mtn bike before I did another one, so that us definitely something to consider. I will do another one! I loved it.

And the big 50 is today so I made my goal of a tri before 50. Thanks to all of you for the great advice and encouragement. What a great group you are!

Nicole congrats on your ride last weekend! I know you are thoroughly enjoying riding with your boys.

Have a great week everyone!
Michelle

Congrats on a super event and celebrating your 50th!!!!!!

Michelle- way to go! It sounds like your tri went well. That is exciting to meet your goal especially by your birthday. Happy 50th to you as well.

Todd I'm sorry that you're leaving but understand. Good luck and hope to "see" you around.

I am looking at what goals I have left for this year. I am still going to ride the Gran Fondo Hincapie Race in October with my Family. It is only 15 miles but it is up and down the mountain(part of it). I need to be working on hills. Plus it will be a bit colder out in October so that will be different as well.
This year so far:
I did a sprint triathlon,
I rode 52 mile bike ride
I have run a 5k with my children and they both finished.
I have more of a bond with my family.
I have dropped 18 pounds. I have lowered my cholesterol and fat percentage.
I can swim in the pool without holding my nose and I can ride down a hill without using my brakes. I can ride my bike in traffic confidently.
My question is what is next?
What is everyone else working toward?

If you don't dream of it and plan for it you don't ever seem to reach it.
Nicole

Such a nice list of accomplishments!!!! Congrats on a great year!!!!

Have been out of pocket for the past week to 10 days; last swim was 9/4 and only a short one at that; a few walks also; flooring job is keeping me busy and is a workout in and of itself; back south now for a family reunion then back to my project early next week. Decided to skip the sprint scheduled for 9/20 since its been ages since being on the bike; will restart indoor swims perhaps next week.

Happy Football Season!!!

Still out here but training has scaled back due to a trip back to see family and my flooring project; it's been hit n miss on getting to the pool; walks continue and some weight sessions....

Didn't race on 9/20..... ; but haven't been on the bike in weeks and the race was just a few days after our trip.....excuses, excuses, excuses....!

Did get in the pool for a half hour this am....hopefully more next week; biking seasons is quickly approaching an end....so I'll get the trainer set up sometime soon;

Enjoy the ride Sunday night!!!!!

I have been doing short work outs here and there. Our family has the Gran Fondo Hincapie Race coming up October 24th. I need to get back on the bike it has been a while and I'm sure I will be feeling it.
My son is almost finished with soccer and then we are all back to the pool. My boys want to the tri come spring again and the pool was the weakest part for everyone. Time to get a winter schedule in.
Take Care,
Nicole

I had a great ride today. I did the 15 mile Gran Fondo Hincapie. This is a ride that the Tour de France guys have used to train on. I was not as prepared for the main large hills as I needed to be but overall it went great. It started out chilly 51 degrees before the sun came up for the ride to the event from the parking area. Then the sun created the hill just before the VIPs got the race started. My sons and I had a great time. My husband did the 50 miler, my older son did the 15 with us but got in with s faster group and met us at the finish line. I had to walk it up the 14% incline. ?? I made it which is something I didn't even want to try 6 months ago!! I was a bit scared coming down the other side but managed to do it. Definitely need more work on crazy steep hills.
Over all I had a good time.
Have a great weekend!!

Thanks everyone. I got in the pool on Tuesday and got in 800 yards, my body felt that it had been a while. After I got home I had some energy left so I took the dog for a much needed walk/ jog around the block. She was so happy. I am proud to say I did 1.2 miles and jogged most of it. I had a 14 minute mile pace which is slower than I would like but I was only planning on taking a walk. I thought I need a t-shirt that says powered by border collie. Today I got on my bike. It has been raining off and on and dreary for the last week or so. I picked up a loaner butterfly seat from my bike shop. What a difference it makes. I got 8.6 miles in. It felt good. I was wishing I was on open road but I put some upbeat music on and I was off. I have heard about a new thing Zwift for the stationary bike. Has anyone else heard of it or uses it? I am thinking about getting one.

Inconsistent training activities due to my flooring/remodel/cabinet projects; back in the pool today for a short swim (first swim since 10/26); first treadmill session yesterday due to horrible weather; hope to get bike trainer set up soon....haven't been on the bike in ages!

How's everyone doing??

I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! I managed to not go overboard which was great. I got back on the trainer today. I am working on getting my cadence up this week. I'm doing interval drills of warm up for 15 minutes 8-16 mph then my regular cadence for 2 minutes at 12-16 mph then go up to 90-100 for cadence at 12-20 mph for 1 min. Then back to regular cadence for 2 minutes 12-16 mph. Then up to over 100 cadence at 16-20 mph for 1 minute. The regular cadence for 2 minutes 12-16 mph repeat this then 10 minutes at 12-16 a bit faster cadence than regular.

It felt good to be burning some of the extra calories.
Merry Christmas may your workouts burn your extra indulgences.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.
