So shin splints are when the lower anterior leg muscles grow rapidly or become acutely inflammed and the fascial sheath that lies on top of the muscles to hold them in becomes stretched too quickly rather than a gradual stretch to accomodate for the muscles. This rapid stretching causes inflammation and pain!... ETA: I'm so glad I can spell. And how do you treat this Dr. Dymond? Depends. If it is just acute then rest and RICE and all. NSAIDs...slow build up of activity. Chronic: PT, stretching, etc. In severe cases surgery can be indicated where they go in an create long incisions in the fascia overtop of the muscles that allows for more give. Apparently it can look a little bit funny when the muscles contract and bulge out where the incisions are. From my days as an athletic trainer and health science major, this sounds about right to me. |

Not true...more disturbing... What parts of anatomy are you studying? The bum. Ok. How to I fix my piriformis problem? I'm going with strengthen and stretch. The piriformis is a weird muscle for the record. It is actually quite small. My problem is glut med. I don't know how to fix your piriformis problem yet. In a month I might know. I've had the problem for more than a year, it will most likely still be here in a month. Well I am becoming a bit pro at internet diagnosis it seems. Neal and Bill haven't been disapointed yet. Haha. Neal and Bill are satisfied for other reasons, I believe. I don't...I think they just want my pro medical knowledge. Because I am a whole 2 months into my 2nd year of med school and know EVERYTHING... I'd bet they want more than just your pro medical knowledge. I'm just sayin'. Mhmm. |

I am noticing that my legs are recovering during the taper. I just need to make sure I adjust the calories down a bit along with the mileage. |

Well I suggest we give them some time. Not that there is anything wrong with Type A personalities but give them some time and see what happens. It is not life and death if they lose the challenge. I have lost challenges in the past due to people not following through, so we need to let it play out. One already has withdrawn due to injury. I say give it over the weekend at minimum. But I am only 1 and if you guys feel differently I won't lose any sleep either way! I agree with you. Pulling out because of an injury is fine, I don't think it should hurt the team. Pulling out because of lost interest is not, and unfortunatly, I think it should go against the team. There, I said it. |
