kaqphin - 2008-10-23 11:16 PM Hi Bill... why you are here can I ask you a couple of questions?

shoot

1) If i go for a ride on my bike with the back break rubbing a bit will I damage the bike any? (Im pretty sure i know the answer but nothing like getting a second opinion... its not rubbing for the entire rotation and I figure worse case i will wear the brakes)

2) What do you think of Bianchi?

1)  Nah, it won't hurt the bike if it's the brake that it is out of line.  If that's the case, then you'll just wear out the pad quickly.  Usually you can just twist the brake to line it up right.  I turn my brakes up against the rim when it's on the trunk rack of my car so the wheels don't spin while I drive, then just line them back up so the wheels turn free when it's time to ride.

HOWEVER!!  And this is VERY important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It could be hitting because your wheel isn't true.  This could end up hurting you and your bike if a spoke were to pop or something because you will probably crash.  If you can't just move the brake caliper to line it up right, run the bike by a shop and they can true it up in a few seconds.  Or, ship it to me and I'll do it  Might be expensive and take a while, though.

answer to two coming up...

Well... I was going to take it to a shop tomorrow... only they open at 9 and my baby needs a full service so.. Im going to have to loose her for a day or two..

And if Im riding its a lot earlier than 9am...

What I 'suspect' Ive done is bent the brake caliper while hauling the bike in and out of the car.. i suppose I *should* also check the spokes and wheel as well before heading off for a ride...

I was just wanting to get a ride in tomorrow morning before waving good bye to my baby...

2)  Never ridden a Bianchi, and no stores around here sell them, but I do like the looks of their frames.  Especially this one: http://www.bianchiusa.com/09_b4p.html

They are an established and well known bike company.  Used to be one of those fine Italian manufacturers like Masi (what I ride) that is now made in Taiwan.  Doesn't make them any better or worse, it just makes them easier to mass produce.  Just about every bike manufacturer does this now.  I would have considered them if they were available to me around here.  Have no idea about their price range, though.

Oh, and you better like the color turquoise.  It's somewhere on EVERY frame.

Well the LBS where I am taking my bike to be looked over has one, with Veloce groupset, in Bianchi Blue, in my size...

I think I'm going SRAM in about 20 years, though.  When I finally save up enough money to get a Red groupset.

Let's just say this... if I were ever going to buy a complete bike again, I'd get another Masi or a Bianchi.

I plan on building and ugrading from here on out, though.  So, if anybody has a Pinarello they want to basically donate to me...   Pleeeeaaaasssseee!

Ive never ridden Campy but changing gears on my Shimano groupset has always felt clunky to me... might be nice to test ride something different...

I wonder what the minimum deposit is on a bike...

Needs white bar tape...
