Damn, there have been so many posts - I'm kinda day late dollar short.  Love the activity!!!  I've been preoccupied with lots of family stuff and to be honest it took me a few days to get my head straight....that weekend zapped me!  I'm getting older and just don't bounce back like I used to.  Big welcome to Kati and Brad officially being in the "club"....You've already had a pretty decent interview - and I guess you passed!  If I could change my login name it'd be "drunktriathlete"....wonder if that one is taken?  And Brad could be "nicehairboy"....and Kati got hers right!!!!  She exhales "Gin-n-Tonic"! haha LMAO. Kiss

Brad and I had a great ride today!!  The weather was perfect and I just wish we had more time to ride....I could have gone on for a long time today - it was great!  Brad only cussed me a couple times for having navigated him into the hills..haha...He did great!

Hey Hilde, the shirt for WACO 2012 should probably have some sort of sub-theme of Triathlete alcohol abuse!!!  I have been teasing my wife that Brad and I are gunna head out next month and do the Waco Tri this year...she didn't have an overwhelming approval look...haha..but you never know....Brad and I can pack two bikes, two transition bags, swimsuits and 4 bottles of Bombay Blue Sapphire Gin - 2 just in case we run out of gas....That's all we'd need to roll......Waco, Temple - Look the FU$#%@#CK out!

Okay, the wifey is upstairs waiting for me.....yes - it's that time...she needs some Wilson time!!!!  Hope everyone has a great weekend....I hope to have all the pictures gone through tomorrow and I'll post them for everyone to see...there are some good ones in there!

I know the feeling, I'm JUST starting to feel normal again.... Mom and I are already tossing ideas around for a shirt, cooking up a good one!

Welcome Kati and Brad!  And Shawn, I'm not your "friend" so I can't view your logs -- help please.  I always check the forum and "lurk" around but don't post much.  Today, I joined the "club" and fell over at a freaking stop sign with my new clipless pedals!!!  My daughter has now seen my husband fall (on the inaugural ride with his new shoes) and on that same ride I almost got hit by a car because of the dang pedals, and now today I go toppling over like the old guy in the raincoat on "Laugh In!"  (Is anyone old enough to remember that show from the 60-70s?)  She says she's NEVER getting em!  The fall actually was hilarous -- I laughed all the way down -- and fortunately didn't hurt anything but my pride (and not really that either because the only one watching was my daughter and some teenage kid mowing the lawn -- I can only imagine what he thought of the old lady tipping over!)  I was thankful for gloves  - still managed to bruise my hands and my elbow, but that's it.   Now that I've fallen, can I say "that's it, I've done my duty" and never fall again?

I can't wait to share like stories about the dreaded pedals!!!

Kati - here's something I just read in a local girls' riding group newsletter about clipless pedals:

Here are a few tips to help you feel more confident while riding clipped in:

  • Practice a little on a wind trainer. If you don't have one, ask if you can borrow one or if you can try one at your neighborhood bike shop.
  • Decide which foot to keep clipped in when stopping at red lights and which you will unclip to steady yourself. Try to always unclip the same foot.
  • Ask your retailer to help you adjust the tension so that unclipping is easiest. You can always adjust the tension when you get more comfortable and confident.
  • If you see a light coming or a stop sign, plan for it and unclip early so you are ready.
  • Try to keep your eyes ahead. Looking down won't really help much anyway.
  • Begin with clipless pedals on your neighborhood streets first before heading out to busier roadways.

Hopefully, the bike shop can switch out the pedals on that kick-a$$ Schwinn with the basket and streamers!

One more thing to add that may help...it's helped me.  I agree with always unclipping the same foot, but I also get out of the saddle and lean/move my body the way of my unclipped foot....so that if I were to lean more and fall it would be on the unclipped foot.  I decided to do this when I would stay on the saddle..unclip one foot and then while getting off I'd suddenly lean away from my unclipped foot and fall - cuz I couldn't get that foot unclipped fast enough.  This is hard to explain...hope you get the point.

Awesome on all the new Tri bling!! don't forget to take pictures and post'em.  But beyond the Tri bling....you gotta use it!!!

OK!  Day 1:

I'm going to try to figure out the actual training log but in case I can't....

Walked 1.99 miles @4.1 in 30 mins.

Swam 350 yards in 25 mins.

I feel great, that swimming business is NO JOKE!  Thanks Mama Dukes for all the tips and pointers, if only I was coordinated well enough to combine all skills TOGETHER, I might not look like a fish OUT of water...I'm also starting to add a TON of water to my diet.  I'm good about not drinking a ton of sodas, but I also don't drink enough water, so I will make a serious effort to promote the H20!

Okay gang, our newest member is logging!!  We had our first swim session this morning and there's stuff to tweak, but nothing MAJOR going on.  Heck, she even logged a double day before 7:30 a.m.!  GO KATI!!!

If only they had a triathlon version of this, I'd kick all of your and it would totally be our next MMM'er race (at least in my mind)!

As it is, I'm planning to work on my running over the winter and then schedule a visit with my parents in NC solely so I can participate next year.

peggyf - 2011-06-25 4:47 PM I'm all for this TdF challenge.  I've talked Wesley and Danielle into joining me on the Leopard Trek Team (I was so disappointed that Andy Schleck didn't win last year -- I'm all for him this year!)  I'm trying to recruite my brother, who lives in Virginia and is a cyclist, and maybe my husband - both of them would have to join BT first.  Anyone else want to join us?

Let me work on my goals for the month and I'll join you.  Anyone else for setting some goals and trying to achieve them?

I promise, as long as you try it is all good in the Challenge forums.  Just don't pull a Shawn and disappear...for some reason, they don't take kindly to that.  Embarassed  On the other hand, it is a great way to push a little harder and get a little extra support for those goals you keep falling just shy of attaining.

Hi group!

My name is Tammy and I'm an addict.........I think. I woke up at 5:30 this morning strictly to go for a run that was supposed to tire me out. It made my legs hurt, caused a stitch in my side UNDER my ribs and I wound up walking for a mile.

After that, I went home, ate breakfast of egg whites and ground turkey w/2 pcs of whole grain, no sugar added toast w/sugar free marmalade - drank a liter of water....

Then I went out to the garage for 35 minutes to lift weights and succeeded in soaking a second pair of clothes with sweat...

Here it is 7 pm and I am thinking about what I am going to do tomorrow and feeling like I didn't do enough today.

Think I meet the qualifications of an addict?? !!

I agree with Hilde, Turtle would be unstoppable!!!  She knows her donuts and travels many miles to attempt finding donut utopia.  I'd like to see you two enter that race....I'd run along side of you Shawn with a big pink puke bucket - just waiting or the golden video moment!! haha....LMAO!

Good job everyone for getting it done today...Congrats Kati on getting started!!!  And TTucker - great job being an over achiever....So to keep the scales balanced correctly I said FU$@#%%CK IT today and had a bowl of ice cream instead...I wanted to honor Hilde in that way....I wanted to run to see if I was still messed up, but screw it!  Maybe I'll do something tomorrow...

Hey, I'm home for the next three days on vacation.....with the kiddos....I hope to have some fun and keep my sanity all at the same time.  Probably not gunna happen.....I'm thinking about an ice cream sandwich now.....the peppermint stick icecream stuff is gone!!!  I better goto bed and hopefully wake up with some motivation and peace within....not frustration, anger and disgust!!!  This triathlon lifestyle sucks when you can't do what the mind wants to do!!!!  Later gang...Wilson -OUT!

If Kati and Brad didn't drink all my Gin, I might be having a drink about now to sulk in self pity!....haha....

Turtle may know her donuts, she may love her donuts, but does she have copious amounts of room to store said donuts in her body?  Methinks she looks too skinny to have much capacity.  It's okay though, I like being an underdog!  Wink

Swam 500 yards!  Seems like miles, and the thought of swimming the entire 500 without resting seems impossible at this point, but I actually like swimming!!!!!  Felt very productive today, was a great workout.  Hope everyone has a good day!

So my husband told me he thinks I need more "balance."  Hmmmm   I guess being a training fool over the summer is a bit out of whack?  (Of course, it doesn't do much good for me to ask ya'll's opinion because you're all just as crazy as I am!)
