How do you know this stuff? I am impressed.... What was that that Stacey would call you?

Well I believe she would call him DORKFACE.

But since he was actually helpful in this instance we won't call him that.

BUT WHY.

DORKFACE is a perfectly appropriate name regardless of the situation.

it SUITS him, dontcha think?

Way to go Stacie! Now give me sume of that running mojo.....I talked myself out of it today....maybe will do the TM tonight at the Y but doubt it....body says it needs a break!

i feel ya KIM.

sometimes its hard to know.

at first i thought maybe my body needed a few more days, then i realized it was really mind that needed to take a back seat.

id always be the first to say, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.

you know though.  what you need.  maybe a workout would do the body some good.

i know how i felt after i got in my run....

just a thought.

I agree sometimes its hard to tell if its the mind or the body saying no.  Usually I will try to get out the door and at least start the workout.  If it's the mind, it usually remembers quickly why I enjoy exercising.  If it's the body, then I can tell quickly and just head home.

Hey Stacie. It's going good--went with hubby to his post-op checkup this morning. He's definitely heading to Africa saturday (BOO, *hiss*). His collarbone is doing nicely, and he even said he'd wear his TED hose on the plane. At least on the way there. Back may be another story, though, LOL. He has 7 screws in the plate on the bone...plus one more to hold two fragments of bone together. Geesh. I am just glad it wasn't me. I look forward to Julie coming back--I was just thinking about her last night, thinking I should inspire her, and see how she's doing. Gotta run--I got all caught up but now it's time to go pick up the hoodlums from school. Laters!(((Gouhlies)))

Evening Ghoulies.  Had a busy afternoon at work. Have some catching up to do here.  PT #11 for the month done.  Bonus round:  I had a teleconference this afternoon that I did in my office while doing wall squats.

OK, all the ghoulies must be feeding kiddo's, walking the dog, or resting the fingers from an afternoon of "meaningful conversation."   My legs feel like I had a long run yesterday.  5 miles is usually an easy run for me, but I've been no-impact for 3 weeks.  I am pretty sore, so I'm going to keep the workouts easy this week.  As for my Philly HM, I found out they also offer an 8k.  I can drop down into that race, no problem.  I have friends flying in for the race, so dropping out completely would be a real disappointment.  Key now is for "said friends" to keep my from running the half anyway, completely unready and on a crash course for injury.  Fortunately they are complete Ba$tard$ and up to the task.

kcarroll - 2009-11-11 4:28 PM Hi Ghoulies!  Went off-line this afternoon.  I didn't have any meetings on my calendar, so I left the office and went MIA.  I put the sneaks on and went out for a jog/walk.  Went a little over 5 miles and no probs with the knee!!!  The HM is still unlikely (unless I decide to walk alot, which isn't out of the question as I have friends flying in to do it with me) but I signed up for the Ft. Lauderdale HM in February as a motivator.  Planning to make it a long beach weekend with friends who live there.  Jersey is horrid in February.

Sounds like a great afternoon Kim! I hope you're healing well - the Feb trip to Florida has to be a good motivator! All the best!

Thanks, Tom.  You are so lucky to live in the SD area!!  I could use a motivator for March.  Any good races that come to mind?

Races around here? Let's see...

-Mar 6 - Scavenger Dash San Diego: "Urban Adventure Race" in downtown San Diego. You have to sign up in teams of 2. Looks pretty fun.

-Mar 7 - Union Tribune Race for Literacy 8k: I ran this one last year. It's a really nice course from Balboa Park into downtown. It finished at a park and had some seriously good schwag for a 5 mile race. The free breadsticks from Pat and Oscars come to mind...

-Mar 7 - Desert International and Sprint Triathlons in La Quinta, CA: It's a ways from the SD area, but I've heard a lot of good things about this race.

-Mar 7 - UCLA IronBruin Triathlon: Sprint course on the UCLA campus.

-Mar 14 - XTERRA Black Mountain Trail Run: 5k or 15k or you're feeling frisky enough for the hills I just checked the site (via active.com) and they both finish with a pretty nasty climb.

-Mar 20 - Pasadena Triathlon: Super Sprint (150m swim, 15k bike, 5k run) in Pasadena.

-Mar 27 - IMCA 70.3: It's probably full, but it still sounds fun. Cool course through North San Diego County.

I'm sure there are more, but that should give you some ideas! Are you planning a trip out this way?

Tom, thanks for so many good ideas!  I don't have anything planned for SoCal in March, but you never know.  I've been known to organize a weekend getaway just for a concert or fun race.
