Member 88 | Subject: RE: Scott's Mentor Group-Closed for training. Alright! I'm the first to admit, I am not a fast runner by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, I did a 5K on Thanksgiving Morning at 30:03 and was upset I just missed the 30 minute mark. So this morning there was another little 5K in my town, so I got out there again 2 days later. Got it in at 29:58! I'm very happy that I'm back to consistantly being under a 10 min pace on my runs. How was everyone's Thanksgiving? Any big plans coming up for those in other areas of the world? -Matt |

I know you are thrilled and already looking forward to the next! Matt, way to break that 30 minute mark buddy! I was sick as a dog last week and could not breathe. I had a massive head cold and was fatigued. I'm back in the saddle this week. I had a good trainer session yesterday and a 3 mile run this morning. I have lost my running legs due to not training Aug-Oct. I have become a slow poke. I am going to practice short, quicker runs the month of december.

Thanks! And I feel for you with the head cold. I had one last winter and had to go to the Doctor for the first time in over 5 years for sickness related issues. Not that I don't get sick, just never to a point where over the counter stuff doesn't handle it. I'm jealous of the trainer session, it's been in the 30s here on the weekends so I can still get my runs in but the bike is out with the wind. I'm looking at a trainer for Christmas. Leaning towards a CycleOps Fluid2. Unless someone thinks I should stay away from it? What kinds of trainers does everyone else have? I know we've done this dance before, but looking for more feedback since I know some people have gotten trainers recently. -Matt |

Veteran 242 Brunswick, Georgia | Subject: RE: Scott's Mentor Group-Closed for training. Evening all! Completed a solid week of training for the first time in months. It felt good to get out there 6 consecutive days. I feel like I am getting back to my paces I was hitting in August. I am looking forward to 2013. Matt, I have a cycleops fluid 2 as well and love it. I need to take the next step and get something to measure power. I am doing dvds right now but don't know what kind of power/results I am getting. I can only measure time on the seat. Hope you all are having a good weekend! |

Member 88 | Subject: RE: Scott's Mentor Group-Closed for training. Thanks for the feedback guys! I went for it. Got the CycleOps Fluid 2 on sale on Amazon with free delivery, they were matching the 20% off sale on the Cycleops page. I also bought a computer that will give me current speed, average speed, distance and cadence. We'll see how this works out. Sweet deal JJ on the race! 70.3 in April in TX is gotta be a little nicer than in the heat of the summer! Keep us posted! Happy training! I don't know about where you all are, but it's been ridiculously beautiful out the last two days here in MD. So I had to take an extended lunch today and got in a nice 17.5 ride on one of the sprint courses I did this summer. Being that my riding has been cut back SUBSTANTIALLY I was very happy to be close to my times from this summer. Just felt great to be outside riding and not under 4 layers! Hope you're all doing well. I'll keep you posted on the trainer setup. Let's see if the "some assembly required" gets the better of me! -Matt

Member 88 | Subject: RE: Scott's Mentor Group-Closed for training. So the trainer came, I hooked it up, CycleOps Fluid 2 is great! I also got a Cat Eye to track distance/time/cadence ... and that's not working! So I did a 1/2 hour on the trainer with the video that came with it and tried to match the cadence of the guys on the screen. OOOUUUUFFFF! Was sweating like a fiend! No idea how far I went. So gotta get that fixed. I did another little 5K over the weekend and the course was pretty much flat. How flat was it? I was just all pumped about getting under the 30 minute mark. On this race? 28:35! Couldn't believe it! Hope everyone has been good and enjoyed Hanukah or will enjoy Christmas next week. Happy training! -Matt |

I just joined Slornow and Wannabefaster's Winter Mentor Group. I think being a part of this group really helped me stay motivated last winter so I thought since we weren't very active anymore I'd join a new group. I'll still check in though. Happy training everyone!!! |

I really didn't know what I was going to do next and became somewhat apathetic over the past month. That's changing. I've sent to the USA for a set of Powerblock dumbbells so I can begin weight training again (my local gym went out of business). I've been back to running and HIIT routines for the last week. I think I'm going to sign up for a short Adventure Race on March 3 -- the River Kwai Trophy. I've never done anything like it. It involves trail/jungle running, river swimming, mountain biking, and canoeing. The total distance of last year's race was 47km, so it's not a great distance. It's a 2-man team event, and a friend will come to Thailand from Switzerland to partner with me (he's never done this either). I think it should be a fun challenge! Has anyone here done one of these before? |

Veteran 242 Brunswick, Georgia | Subject: RE: Scott's Mentor Group-Closed for training. Happy new year, everyone! I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and a great start to 2013. What a year??!!?? What a change! I could not have imagined my life a year later when I came on here the first time 1/1/12. I didn't know what the hell I was doing nor what I was getting into. I didn't even know if I would stick with it. 57 miles in the pool, 1200 miles on the bike, and about 300 on my feet- I survived! Over 1500 miles of moving! WoW! I am still planning my races for 2013. I'm going to start with a sprint race and try to conquor two Olympic races and a century ride. Those are my goals. We'll see what reality brings. Life was so easy with one child but 3 is kicking my . I hope everyone continues to keep in touch. What are the final thoughts on a new group? Should we start our own new group? Should we change the name of this one and bring on some people? Would any of you be interested? 'Newbies and more newbies' sounds like a good name! I don't know what happened to Scott but i hope he is well. Looks like Troy bailed as well. I hate to lose everyone but I will lead the pack and get us a new name if ya'll are interested. Let me know.
