Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() robburkett - 2011-02-20 1:42 PM The indoor tri is in the books. Posted to my training log and I think I have the numbers right so... Swim 550yds in 10 min Bike 14.6 miles(spin bike) in 30 minutes Run 2.48 miles(treadmill) in 20 minutes Had to stop a couple of times to fix my goggles. I think I should have worn a swim cap in some of my training as it was required for the race. I normally feel really strong on the spin bike but it just wasn't there today. Decided that I could throw it down during the run and I am kinda pleased with the outcome. great job! it looks like you were moving pretty good on the bike. good job. |

There were bigger numbers posted by others on the bike. Kinda hoping the formula isn't weighted heavily on the bike. I think I approached it too much like my training. Was pretty much trying to keep m power output even though without burning out my legs. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team, I survived!!! I did it, I actually managed to finish and I ran the whole thing ![]() It was freeeeeeezing. Air temp of 25 with a 'feels like' of -1. Wind gusts of up to 40mph at the start. I started off strong but went out way too fast, doing 9:30 mm for the first 3 - 4, then slowed and was doing roughly, 10 - 10:30mm. My knee gave me a few issues around mile 6 - 7 then mile 8 it really hurt but seemed to ease off a small amount. By mile 12 I was tired and ready for it to be over. I finished in 2:23:03 Not overly speedy for some, but for me I was happy. Now I have to ice and roll my knee again. It seems stiffer and more painful now I have stopped, but no where bear as bad as it was two weeks ago when I had to pull up at mile 8. Rob - Nice job - That is darn speedy on the bike!! wow. Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() razorxp - 2011-02-20 7:09 PM Great job Rob, Swim caps are weird if you don't train with them. They give me a headache if they are too tight. How do they determine standings? The Overview says: "Participants will be graded on a curve. The furthest distance in each category gets the most points(actual number based on the number of participants), the shortest distance receives 1 point and your "score" for the discipline is based on the number of points you achieve. All three disciplines count equally towards your final score. Therefore, your rank and score will not be determined until all participants have finished the event." For example, if I placed 2nd, 10th, and 1st in the respective disciplines, I would get 34, 25 and 35 points respectively with a total of 94 points. What that does then is to even out the playing field based upon your particular strength. Not sure how I feel about that. Pretty suire I'll feel great about it if it benefits me! ![]() |

I was really concerned because the bike just didn't feel "right" and I thought I might push to hard to save anything for the run. Turns out the opposite was true. I got to the run and was able to turn in a good performance. Now - if I can translate that to an outdoor race, then there will be something to talk about. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. Before I post anything else: WAY TO GO DEB!!!!! AWESOME! ROB - AWESOME AS WELL - CONGRATS! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Skiing with my sister's family and friends was a great time. I got home this afternoon just before the snow started. A bit tired from the drive but I made it safe and sound and I was able to get a swim in this evening. While I was away I did not make it to the pool at the resort (was going to but way to many kids). I did get a short run in on Friday evening after I arrived and will post it in logs when I am done with this. OK - nothing else to report except I just finished shoveling 7 inches of snow with more on the way ![]() So with the swim and the shovelling - got a decent work out in I guess. Have a great week everyone and once again - nice work Deb and Rob. KC |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats Rob and Deb! It must feel great to get the first one of the season out of the way. Keep up the great work. I tweeked my back at the pool Friday. The pool was crowded and only one lane was open for laps with four of us to share. I tend to be an overly polite person so I was going at a faster than normal pace to stay out of the way of faster people and stressed my lower back! I'm mad at myself because I know better. ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds like everyone had a busy weekend! Deb - congrats on the half this weekend. Rob - Nice job on the indoor tri. Regarding the swim cap - I ran into the same issue last year and just decided to train with it all the time. Now I don't even realize its on. Court - Sorry to hear about you back. Hopefully it will go away soon. It is those moments where you let your guard down that can be frustrating. Just use it as a learning experience for the rest of your training and remember next time you feel you are pushing yourself. Dave & Scott - Where the hell are you guys doing your rides at -haha? I can't believe someone actually tried to push you. What is wrong with people? And Dave - I just have this image of band of road bikers chasing down a car like a hollywood movie shooting his back windshield out -haha Then macing him. Well I made it through my crazy February with minimal disruption. Things should start to get back to normal with one show a weekend now. Fri/Sat shows just kill me not gettng home til 3AM and it just throws my whole day off. I DREAD weekends becasue of the lask of structure. I did get my bike back together and took it for a quick test spin. Everyhting seemed good. I got my bar end shifters today so I will try to install them tonight and hopefully sometime this week take her out for a long test spin. Hope everyone has a good week!! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was able to go to the pool today since my wife is off because of the holiday and she didn't mind me going. (I'm a lucky guy!!) It felt a little eassier again today. I'm loving the swim now since I am making noticeable gains everytime I go!! I might be able to get another day in this week!! Can't wait! |

We look real tough in our spandex outfits.. lol It happens all the time on country/city roads, there are alot of bad cyclest out there that don't care if they upset cars so alot of cars hate us. I avoid cars at all cost don't think my 15lbs bike has a fair chance against a 3k lb car. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As mentor I get to vent alittle as I am considering taking a break this season from racing. Even though I am signed up for 1full and 2 halfs, I have lost almost 2 months of training that I can never get back. Anyway I'm done whining back to training and I shall see what the summer brings. |

I don't have to train too much to finish but to keep up with my training partners I'm in trouble. I have to break 5&11 hrs and there is no way I'm on pace for that. Just venting after a terrible first run back. I will do my races through all of you. The whole group is doing great, everyone is improving so quickly..
