Hey folks,

Sorry to say I'm going to drop out of the challenge. I've been in a pretty bad funk for a while now and I just can't be reliable about my training. It's just too hard since I don't have any real help or support in my life to assist with these life changes I'm trying to make. I'll still be training when I can manage it and hopefully that's more often than not, but I don't need the stress of not letting y'all down.

Good luck folks!

Kelley,

I'm sorry to hear you don't have a lot of support in your training. I know that must be hard. It took my husband a while to get used to my training but now I typically get up at 5:00 a.m. to do my workout and when I get back home he is still in bed! I know that doesn't work for some people and I am really blessed that he has a different job than he did a year ago because this time last year I could barely get 1/2 hour of exercise in during daylight hours. It was tough. I hope things get better for you soon.

Tracy

What's up with you people and the pool???!!! I LOVE the pool - especially this time of year. Of course, I live in VA so I guess that helps a little.

Okay.

So I've been a really, really bad TNTer.

Not bad in the sense that I haven't been doing my workouts. Cause I have. And probably harder than ever before.

I'm bad because I let myself get so ridiculously wrapped up in this HIM race only to be left unfulfilled. I have literally made myself sick over it the past few weeks and it's totally effed with my mental game and overall mood. Not good. In turn, I haven't posted much in our group...and haven't updated a damn thing between my training logs and the team spreadsheet (really guys...I'm sorry...) I love making friends in these challenge threads, too. So I've really just let myself down all around.

At any rate...

I got to complete the Kansas 70.3...er I mean Kansas 61.7 yesterday. I was on the run and they called the race due to lightning. A storm rolled in and out in less than 15 minutes. Winds picked up, temps dropped, thunder clapped, and though many of the athletes never saw it...lightning struck.

Twice.

(Doubtfully in the same place.)

My day was over less than 5 miles into the run. I was in great spirits. Feeling awesome. Had a surprisingly good swim despite my horrendous sighting efforts and swimming close to 1.5 miles in the end. And I made my goal of making the bike cut off (it's my weakest discipline and I'm not joking when I say that I was the last athlete they allowed on the run course...). There were a million and a half tiny victories during the day.

And I keep focusing on 61.7. It's not 70.3.

I am absolutely beyond heartbroken.

Beyond.

It's like reliving the Chicago Marathon from last year all over again.

My parents don't understand why I'm so upset with the situation (granted I completely understand why the RD made the decision and support it to ensure the safety of everyone on the course)...which only makes it all worse. They can't wrap their mind around the fact that this is something I trained 8 months for, gave up countless nights with friends, invested so much of my mind, heart and soul into making happen, and for what? To come up short against my will.

It's just rough.

I'm trying to take away a lot of positives from the day. Trying being the key word. I'm just in a bad "tri zen" place right now. I imagine when I get back to the grind of training in a day or two, I'll be shaking the funk and getting amped and excited for the next big thing.

So rather than the backside of my month slowing the intensity and volume of my training down. (since I was supposed to be doing sprints and working on speed for the rest of the summer)..I'm building back up so I can hopefully be recovered and ready to roll for the Spirit of Racine HIM next month. So I guess that's good news because now I will likely be breaking my previous goals by a good amount.

I'm trying to get excited for Racine. But that wasn't supposed to be "my race." Kansas 70.3 was supposed to be it. It things went well, I'd go for CDA next year. But this left such a bad taste in my mouth I know I have to come back and settle the score. Which means the m-dot will have to wait another season (I have CDA as my first IM, I know there's others...but none like CDA).

It's all just very frustrating for me.

I'm hoping to shake this nasty funk by getting talkative in the challenge threads again. Hopefully you'll welcome my smart @ss Chicago comments, even though you don't really know me all too well (totally my fault, too...I know).

I just needed to vent. To some folks who actually understand how much heart we put into this sport. And who can sympathize with a starting line that began months ago, only to have the finish line slip away when it's right between your fingertips.

This just really hurts you guys.

Forgive me for being a slacker on the updates? I swear on my Cannondale that I haven't been the lazy sack-o-shiznitz that my logs may possibly indicate.

:sigh:

I don't even know where to begin! I am so sorry you have had to deal with this issue - especially so far into the race. I guess the best "take away" would be that you had a great "training race" for your next HIM! I can't even fathom being in your position.

i think i would have TOTALLY spent the rest of the day crying my head off!!

I did.

And my husband did, too. And he's not a crier. At all.

I really feel for the folks pulled with 2 miles left. A handful of BTers found themselves in this boat. One BTer (veganman) crashed hard and fractured his femur.

But safety for the athletes is the first and foremost concern.

I'm just...ugh...I dunno even know what I am. The race was put together really well. Things were organized (for the most part) and the RD has been insanely responsive to countless athletes over the last 8 weeks. Any problems or questions or concerns we had, he immediately addressed and spread the word. He really should get some RD of the year award or something.

But I *knew* there was bad karma when we picked up our race packets. The goody bag shirts...they really say *finisher* on the back.

Awesome.

That is one great husband you have!!!

I have a run and a swim on the schedule today, too.  I'm off to put in my 26 minutes of running!  And then it's off to the pool.  I was thinking of trying an outdoor pool today but it's only 67 degrees outside right now.  Can someone please explain to me why Indiana's weather has to be so ridiculus.  Last week it was 90 every day...this week it's 70.  How is a girl supposed to acclimate to the heat when the heat is only around for a week at a time?

We've got the same thing going on here in VA. Last week - heat advisory and 100 degree temps. Today - 69 degrees. I'm still headed to the outdoor pool, though!

Well, like Tracy, I have already got in my 10k (6.2miles) run this morning.

I had to come back to the house at the half way point (my route is a 5k loop) because I had to drop off my dog, Jessie, who I went running with. She was totally exhausted after about 2.5 miles. Either I am getting faster or she is getting fatter, or maybe a bit of both. It was warm here this morning though....about 75F at 6am. Got my run done once I dropped her off and she was still panting hard once I got back about 30mins later...LOL!

I am off work today again so am taking the kids out to the Albuquerque Balloon Museum.......I know it does not sound too exciting, but I heard the place is really cool with lots of stuff to do for the kids......and it is cheap!

Hopefully I can go and get my long swim in at the outdoor pool this afternoon, esp as it is due to be close to 100F again today. At least this means that it will not be too busy later on this aftenoon, because it is too hot for most folks to come and lounge around the pool.

Sorry for all you guys who have not seen summer yet.....but the weather has been great here for a few weeks now and is due to be 95-100degF here all week.

BTW....Is everyone on the team planning to swim today??????

Check those logs folks.............esp Lyssa's......SHE WILL SWIM TODAY!

good job Tracy....

I went swimming - got in 2200 meters today and I am going again tomorrow morning - hoping to swim at least an hour again tomorrow....hoping to get my pool time caught up!! I think even with my down time that I can make my goal!
