givemashot - 2009-11-12 2:19 PM Good afternoon, chatty Gouhlies!!!
Now I have to go back to catch up on the last, uh, 10 pages of posts? Heh.

HEY AMY.

how's it goin?

stacieb
Hey Stacie. It's going good--went with hubby to his post-op checkup this morning. He's definitely heading to Africa saturday (BOO, *hiss*). His collarbone is doing nicely, and he even said he'd wear his TED hose on the plane. At least on the way there. Back may be another story, though, LOL. He has 7 screws in the plate on the bone...plus one more to hold two fragments of bone together. Geesh. I am just glad it wasn't me. I look forward to Julie coming back--I was just thinking about her last night, thinking I should inspire her, and see how she's doing. Gotta run--I got all caught up but now it's time to go pick up the hoodlums from school. Laters!(((Gouhlies)))

HOLY BIONIC DEAR HUSBAND!  can he make it through security/metal detector w all the screws and plate??  the TED hose will be the 'least' of his worries.

how long will he be in Africa?  what part?  [sorry if you mentioned in an earlier post and it went over my head]

i have friends that were in WEST Africa, but there home now.  they loved it while they were there.

im glad JULIE is coming back too.  i missed our JULESY GHOULIE.

hope your hoodlums didnt keep you hopping too much this afternoon.

return to the VILLAGE as soon as your able.

SLOPPY GHOULIE KISSES.

he won't pass a metal detector test, LOL. It's atitanium plate. I don't know if he'll make it through security or not. Guess we'll find out soon. I meant to get a letter from his doc stating that he's got the plate/screws. I don't think it'll be much of an issue in the states...but who knows once you leave the areas where bribing state workers and customs officials is considered a BAD thing. Hubby is headed to the Congo. Or more specifically the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Apparently the fact that it's the safer of the 2 congo republics is supposed to make me feel more at ease. Heh. He'll be there for a week, gone from home about 10 days. Tomorrow I get to treat all of his clothes with a permethrin spray to keep away the mosquitoes. Then the next day he'll be gone. But you guys will help me keep my spirits up, right? pretty please with sugar on top?? It might take the entire Gouhlie Village to get me through this trip with my sanity intact.

Sorry about that! I went over to check TriTalk and CoJ. Must have left while you were writing your novel. Sorry!

How are you doing tonight? My special lady is watching Project Runway right now, so needless to say it's up to me to keep myself entertained for a while

All I can hear in my head is the cover Tiffany did of that song in the 80's. "I think we're alone now...doesn't seem tobe anyone around...."OK, off to bed. For real this time.

Good morning Ghoulies!!!

We had parent teacher conferences yesterday. It is so nice to hear an unbiased party tell you that you have raised a good kid, and I got to hear that twice yesterday!

My son is a very smart boy, we've known this since he was about 18 months old. His teacher just went on and on about him. He's in fourth grade, and the kids are supposed to have jobs in the classroom. My son now does half of the jobs because the teacher doesn't have enough reliable kids to perform the tasks. He told us he's afraid he'll burn our son out, I told him that he was fine, the more you give him to do the more he thrives. His teacher probably told us 6 times that our son is such a deep thinker, that he has a challenge in the classroom just trying to come up with things for our son to do, he wants to challenge him so he doesn't get bored. My son had been tested for the gifted program last year, but we decided not to do it because he works better at his own pace. The administrators supported our decision and his teachers are aware so he generally is given alternative things to do in the classroom which has worked out well for the boy.

My daughter who is in first grade got raving reviews as well. She has some speech issues, which are being worked on, it does affect her reading some, but not enough that we need to be concerned. She reads at level, and her teacher expects her to move beyond this as her speech progresses, so no big deal. She excels at math and is the artistic one in the family. Every month a student from each class is chosen as the Path Kid, it's like a student of the month award. My son gets this every year by November. My daughter didn't get it in Kindergarten, and we didn't understand why. When the teacher was saying about what a joy it is to have her in the classroom, that she's everyone's friend, volunteers for everything, helps everyone and such I asked why she was never chosen as the Path Kid. The teacher said that she was chosen as the November Path Kid, my daughter just doesn't know this yet, and we're not telling her. The teacher has been teaching for 30 years and said you only get a kid like my daughter every 5 or 6 years. That was nice to hear.

So the kids are doing well and I'm happy. A friend of mine took her 2 kids and my 2 swimming last night while we were in conferences. I met them at the Y and because all 4 kids had good report cards I took them out for Pizza then.
