Congrats to everyone (at every distance) on a warm and challenging day.  My full RR is coming, but here are some of the highlights (or low lights) for me:

  • Official finish time - 5:48:47 (targeted 5:30)
  • My psoas problem and pain kicked in on the 4th bike loop and got worse throughout the run
  • It was warm and like others - even with sunscreen I am quite burned
  • The swim course seemed 200m long (compared my Garmin with others and we all showed 1.7miles) - this explains the longer than expected swim time
  • The bike course got cluttered a little in the middle loops with all the sprint and Oly athletes also out there, but it looked like everyone did a great job sighting so I did not see any accidents
  • The run course was a challenge (for me) due to my inability to move laterally or up/down with my ab pain.  Walked some, but ran (if you can call a duck-like waddle a run) at a VERY slow pace for me (11:00/mi).

BUT....with all that, it was another finish and anytime you can finish a race without permanent injury or equipment damage, it is a BIG win.

Congrats to Elliot who took 2nd OA in the Oly distance!!

Good job!   I noticed that the swim for the olympic seemed longer than 1500 meters as well.    I asked a few others about this and they said the same thing and our garmins registered b/w 1650 - 1750.

interesting regarding the extra swim distance...since I don't use a Garmin I'll definitely take your word for it!
Regarding finishing without injury or equipment failure, you are SO right! On the first loop the girl in front of me blew out her tire and scared the crap out of the cop standing nearby. I saw a few people changing tubes on the side of the road and my husband saw a bike wipe out, so yes, if we finished it was definitely a good day, regardless of the walk, hike, shuffle or waddle :-)!
WTG everyone!

Yep, the swim was 2.7km... or 1.69 miles aprox... I struggled in swimming a lot, but it blew up my time in my mind, since I had programmed a time in my head for a 2.5km swim.

My 910 showed 1.72 miles on the swim.

That wigged me out a bit during the event when I saw such a slow time, but then again, I'm slow anyway.

for the olympic my 910 says 1.05mi.

I cut my foot on concrete or something jumping into the water.  It hurt, but adrenaline kept me going for the whole race.  When i finished i pulled my foot out of my shoe and realized that i scraped up the back of my heel and the outside of my foot pretty bad.  I haven't been able to to put my foot in a shoe all week.

but besides that, i felt like i had a pretty good race, especially since it was my first olympic.  I did a race report if anyone is interested.

This was my favorite picture from the day: http://www.tr-iag.com/p906491363/h5bce4954#h5bce4954

A friend of mine cut up his heel last year at Marquee, same as you. There is a concrete ledge just below waterline where the stairs are set up...if you jump straight down you can hit it. You are not the only one I've heard this happen to. I always jump out and away from the edge...lesson learned! Glad that was the only thing that happened!

Hope everyone is feeling good otherwise! I was a bit tired for 3 days or so, but not sore at all. BUT, when you walk most of the 8 mile trail run, not much to be sore from :-) Makes recovery a little easier - lol!

This is a common occurrence at TTL, especially if you are unfamiliar with it.  When you enter the lake from the stairs (in any tri), you need to jump OUT a good distance, as there is a concrete ledge - and many before you have done the same as you (or worse).

The benefit to the ledge......when you exit the water, if you know it is there you can use it as an underwater step before stepping up onto the stairs and out of the water.

Now that you have experienced the ledge, I am sure you will not have to worry about it again.

ran the trail part of the course again today with my husband...all the chalk markings and arrows were still visible. Had to prove to myself that I could indeed RUN the whole thing...amazing how much better it felt being able to breathe without intense pain! Such a great course and with a little bit of a wind today it was hot, but not unbearable!
