I'm a big wuss! I haven't run the past two days because it's been pouring rain and I just don't feel like going out and being soggy after a long day of classes. I'm going to put in a few miles tomorrow morning to get my mileage back up and I should be back to myself by the time I finish my long run on Sunday. Sorry to hear about your knees, Fred. Rest and recovery are an important part of training, too, so just get better.

Especially running.

I had an unexpected business trip the last two days and haven't done anything.  Should get a long run in this morning to get back on track.  Looks like we're going to get a break in the weather today, should be a good day for for a LSR.

Keep running everyone!

When do we report our miles for this week? I'm at 57.72 miles this week, 111.12 overall. Friday was my first day of not running this month. I had to sit around all day waiting for a freaking repairman and he came late, then had to go get a part and come back again. Kinda hacked me off because I really didn't want to skip any days. Oh well - that's life!

We're in 5th place. DISAPPOINTING!!!!! It looks like some people need to step it up some. Through the second week people should have about 43% done. If you're way under that you're letting the team down. If you don't get caught up some this week it may be close to impossible to make your goals. LET'S GET IT DONE PEOPLE!

Fred, hopefully your run today went well.

Run went OK.
It takes a mile or two for the knees to feel good. Then they are still pretty sore after I have cooled down.

Good to hear you're back, but be careful and take it easy on those knees.  Don't need "hurt" turning into "injured."

I'm finally back after a small MIA hiatus, though I did get some running in while I was away from the internet land.  Got above thirty (or 60%) yesterday, so I should be on track even with the busy weekends ahead.

Sorry my numbers look so crummy. I kind of anticipated that happening, since I'm building every week on my marathon plan. The next couple weeks should look almost exponentially better (I promise!).

It looks like everyone is getting some good runs in this week - except for the Master Slacker Shawn. Nice going for helping the team stay in contention.

I'm at 38.53 miles so far this week and almost 75% of goal. Keep running everyone!

If "thriving" is defined as doing nothing then you are thriving. Your signature line seems out of place for someone who is clearly not giving this challenge their best effort - unless your best is doing nothing.

FRED: Sorry to hear about your knees. By any chance do you need new shoes? Have you ever had your stride mechanics analyzed to determine if your running style is hurting your knees? People who tend to overstride and have a heavy heel strike often have joint problems when running higher mileage. I was one of those people and several years ago I completely changed my running style to alleviate those problems.

Don, I have never had this problem before. My shoes only have about 250 miles on the one pair and 40 on the other. The wear pattern on my sneaks have me as an under pronator that lands more on the ball of my foot. The pain started about a month ago and has got progressively worse. After I ran the last three days I could barely climb the steps of my house.
I am hoping it is tendonitis or something like that. I am going to rest until Wednesday and then try another run and see how painful it is.

Well just take it easy Fred. No need to push yourself so hard that you get a lingering injury - especially as some people in this challenge don't appear to be taking it seriously anyway.

Well I took the day off from running yesterday and got back in the pool for the first time in ever.  Almost swam as far as my runs have been.  I do plan on knocking another 5k chunk out this afternoon, getting up to 36 miles total for the month, which should have me right where I need to be.

Run okras.

When I started increasing my milage, my knees really hurt and I discovered that I was overstriding, not only do my joints not hurt anymore but I'm faster!  I don't know if this is helpful in your case but hopefully it is.

I've had a tough go of it this week with some longer days on business getting back and forth to Vermont a couple of times.  Got home last night and spent the next four hours in the ER because my son has pneumonia.  Everone's doing well but I'm beat.  Hoping to get a short run in this afernoon and a longer run tomorrow/Sunday to get back on track.

Keep Running Okra!

Well, my horrible week of exams is over and I got a 10 mile run in this afternoon. I'd been worried about a little sore spot on my Achille's tendon lately and hoping I wouldn't have to cut back my mileage. I asked one of my instructors (who happens to be an awseome orthopedic PT) what might be up with it. First question out of her was "have you increased your mileage lately?" well, yeah, I'm training for a marathon. Then she says "do you stretch?" ummmm...no. She gave me some stretches to work on and didn't tell me to run any less, so that was a big relief. I did my stretches as soon as my run was done, so hopefully if I stick with it I won't develop an injury.

Sorry you're still hurting, Fred. That's really frustrating too when you're not sure why it's happening.

Adamsc2...hope the kiddo is doing okay. Hopefully you can get out and fit in a few miles. Good luck!

Did 4.2 yesterday.  I'm at 10.8 of my 24 mile goal.

I'm going to do the rest in 6 runs.

Although I've been slow, I'll get it done.

Good job everyone!

The new week started off good. I ran a new 5K PR of 21:13 today. It was my first sub 22 5K ever. Felt good. I was still bursting with energy so I ran another 6.5+ miles after we got home.

Keep running, we're getting into the home stretch. We can still pull out a victory for the team.
