Nope....

I have so much other crap going on I have not been able to go to the gym and get in a good workout. I will either run tonight, or go to the gym and lift and then run on the treadmill....

pretty close...today was a great swim day...i took yesterday off as a rest day and today swam my first 1500 yd straight swim! This is such a huge achievement for me, considering my longest previous was 500 x 3...30 sec rests.

anyhow, just wanted to share and give a shout of encouragement to my fellow elephants!

Congrats!  I'm still floating along with 50's and 15 second rests... My plan SAYS I'll do a 600 straight in another 6 weeks or so.  I look forward to it!

I do have a mini sprint this weekend - the swim is a 100yd, changing lanes every 25y so I'll get a mini rest every 25... I think I can do it!

So please hold my sorry butt to the fire, inspire me, grill me, I need help! Brina and butt cannot seem to meet!

I am planning a brick this evening od run and bike...

You can definitely do it! Stick with the plan...I guess the short rests are helping to build endurance, because back in February, getting to 200 was tough...but the more you swim, the more you CAN swim...

Good luck to you!

thanks - I've been trying to decide if I should modify the planned workout tomorrow morning to do a 100 nice and easy with no breaks - I think I will *IF* the 25yd pool is open, but if I'm stuck in the 10 yd  pool I think I'll do the plan.

Awesome for you! That is a great feeling! It will come quick from here if you just keep it up. I was really working hard to only do 1000's in January and today I did a 2000 no sweat. It's so fun to reach a milestone! Congratulations!

Of course you can! Race adrenaline will kick in! I saw a quote on here awhile ago- "Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are probably right!"

And I think that's very true. Your tri sounds fun!

hey movingsouth,

give it a try but if you need to rest, try resting for a slightly shorter rest...take 3 deep yoga breaths if you need to...i swear this helped me sooo much.

  • ..make sure you warm up first, too. are you doing any drills before starting the work out? it takes me about 15 min of warm up drills to get that rhythm going...kick on side...just helps get the heartrate up a bit without breathing issues.

  • good luck, you are going to do awesome!

Well you did inspire me to get off my a$$ and get that 3 miler in... ignore my HR runs and just knock it out... So I did it with sub 10 minute miles.. not bad for old man.. But no where near my PR's of last year either.

Rock on for 50 pounds in the trailer and the wind resistance!

snicker snicker - 15 minutes of warmup?  My work out is over before 15 minutes... I'm only up to doing a 300 via 50's.  Really, if the 25y pool would ever OPEN I'd throw myself a longer workout but in the 10y pool (yes, 10y) I get as tired from turning as from swimming so I'm sticking to the plan.  I'll go throw Total Immersion in the DVD since it finally came my turn at the library. Maybe I'll pick up something for tomorrow morning's workout.

I did watch a few youtube videos from active.com and DID think about them as I did my warmup 50 on Tuesday.  I've been thinking too about getting one of the young squirts, erh, lifeguards/instructors to give me some technique suggestions, but until the pool is fully open I have few local/easy resources.

Thanks for the cheers.  maybe I'll draw myself an elephant sharpie-tattoo for my mini tri

I HIGHLY suggest a few sessions with an instructor or coach if you can swing it. After doing so, I COMPLETELY changed my stroke and swimming became almost easy- though I've still got a long way to go-- and believe me, at the end of last year, I was getting to the end of the 50 yd pool out of breath after one length. It seems swimming is mostly technique and if you can get a coach to watch you for even one or two sessions, I think you would be very happy you did.

Brick with an hour bike and a 3 mile run. And apparently a whole lotta strength sessions to do in the second two-thirds of April when I get home. Which is fine, I guess, that I will be stuck in the gym when it is 40 and raining. For the next six days. Ugh.

I did a 100y in 2m6s.  yeah me.  and I did a total workout of 450 instead of a 300 since the big pool was open.

I'm in sunny California.  heh.  San Jose.

It's been ~40* most mornings when walking to the pool.  I stopped checking the temp in the morning since it was never confidence boosting; I just throw on the fleece pants and down parka over the suit and head out the door.

My new Zoot top just arrived via UPS, I think I'm ready for my mini.

San Jose... Man, that brings back memories... Spent several years at Fort Ord in Monterey in the mid-80's... Loved it there... Miss it at times. Was looking at the area on Google Earth the other day, it sure looks like it has changed since then!
