kcarroll - 2009-11-01 2:49 PM Will be a slow start for me on this one.  Am limited to Aqua Jogging due to knee problems.  Hey Bill, one of the pools at the Y is colder than the other.....can I log points if I "jog" in the "cool" pool? Undecided  Hee Hee.  Hopefully will be back outside in another few weeks.

Kim - you are a points monger aren't you??? Nope - unless it is below 50 degrees and quit bragging about 2 pools that is what I want at our Y and they just laugh!

Ha!  Just thinking of creative ways to stay in the game. Seriously, come down and join me for some aqua-jogging. It is pretty boring.

Actually, we have 3 pools....the third one is the kiddie pool with a slide.  While I've been tempted to try the slide out, there is not enough chlorine to get me in that one.

Oh yeah, 26* when I started my run and 29* at the end   Slowest trail run ever on all the ice and snow -- good cadence and lateral work.

eta: woo hoo I'm in 3rd place!  (only 3 people have posted so far )

Great job Susan - nice and cool this morning huh?

Yep -- gotta get going before the sun gets too high and warms things up!

We just have extra points allowed if you do a polar bear swim.  The challenge is doing the swim itself - have fun with that!

I'll run by -20 and windy instead. lol

I figured living in Maine would help get some points, challenge starts and it warms up..what the?!?!

How cold does the water/air have to be for the polar bear challenge?

It's been warm here too.  But I'm not worried.  I know I'll get a chance to get some points in a few weeks.

There's a New Year's Day polar bear plunge here and I'm thinking about it.  They don't break up enough ice to make an area big enough to really swim in, though.  Everyone just jumps in and treads water for a minute or two, then they dry off and head to the bar.

So....I can't read...or do math...either way I had to edit my numbers already.  It needs to get colder here otherwise I've got to hope for wind!

Question for the judges:

When I started my run it was 25*; when I finished it was 37*.  25-29 (5 degrees) @ 1pt.  30-35 (6 degrees) @ .5 pt.  36-37 (2 degrees) @ 0 pt.  Run was 63 minutes; total temp degrees: 13.  Is this the correct calculation (I'm assuming the temp went up steadily)?

63'/13* = 4.85 min/degree

(4.85)(5)(1) + (4.85)(6)(.5) = 38.8 pts.

Or is there another way this is calculated?

I will take your word on it   That is quite the jump and I never really looked that indepth at it.  If you feel your times closely figure in time spent in each temp range I am good with it.

This is where being non-Type A is handy - sure Susan no problem Wink

I'll just have to start earlier next time so it doesn't hit 30* while I'm out there -- much simpler!

Maybe this is why my husband says I overthink things

wgraves7582 - 2009-11-04 5:16 AM Woke up at 4:00am to get a 40 min walk in.  I am reserved to walking for November so hopefully I can add some easy points up this month and get after the good stuff come the real cold months!

Wow the things we'll do for points

I figured out that if I start my run as soon as it's light, I have almost an hour before the sun gets over the ridge and starts warming things up.  This challenge gets me up and going early -- tnx Bill (I think)!

wgraves7582 - 2009-11-05 5:38 AM Well I am reserved to cheerleader until 12/1.  No walking for me either now.

Go crappy weather participants.  Just don't compile too many points on me please!

Oh no -- what did you do?
