Scott - Life happens. Pick up the pieces and do the best you can, that's all any of us can do. Families have to come before training!

warmed up with a 5 minute walk, bicycled 17 minutes, then ran/walked 3 minutes/1 minute 3 times, followed by a 6 minute walk, today in the gym.  Runs were at a nine minute pace.

not enough energy to do a full workout.  not entirely sure why, except coming back after some time off sick.

Also had a left foot cramp yesterday swimming and today a left calf cramp while running.  Didn't have cramping at all last year.  Have been drinking plenty of water last 2 days so don't think dehydration is the cause.  Will stretch more before workouts to see if that helps.

The stretching should help and one of the consensus thoughts around here is that when you either start up training again or increase your load that a little bit of cramping is normal.

My calf was on the edge of cramping the other day but never fully went there, much to my relief.  When I first started last year, I often would be fighting off a right calf cramp while running and a left foot cramp when swimming, especially when I pushed off from the wall alot.  It should eventually get better.

I got home late last night and switched my off day from today to yesterday.  Now I have a nice swim and run on the docket.  What are everyone else's plans?

As a side note, and I forget this every year, jogging to a train in flat bottemed dress shoes through snow is a great agility exercise.

Okay - racing buddy just convinced me. Looks like I am adding the Wurtsboro Mountain 30k to my race schedule this year: http://www.sullivanstriders.org/30k.htm

Also adding either 2010 Harryman Triathlon in May http://www.genesisadventures.com/v4/main.php?left=triathlons¢er=harrymantri

or the 2010 Devilman http://www.piranha-sports.com/Race72.aspx

Resistance training, followed by a mile swim (500 yd warm up, 6x50 yd sprint (best time 35 seconds), 5x50 yd kicking or easy recovery, 100 yd catch up drill, 500 yd cool down, in about that order), 10 minutes cycling, then 10 minutes running, followed by a 5 minute cooldown walk.

Total swim time for the short course mile, including breaks between sets, 38 minutes.

Felt good today, had brief cramping (left calf again) on last lap of swim and just as I began running, but these were easily stretched out in 30 seconds or so.  Speed's not back in the swim yet, but I was able to easily finish the mile this time.  WooHoo!

Thank you Lani!  I think my best time in high school was about 17 minutes.  Of course that was without stopping, all freestyle, and at this point maybe a lifetime best.

Yesterday I did 1.2 miles in the pool in 46 minutes - felt actually pretty good. Plus that time is 2 minutes faster then my previous best for that distance - so maybe something is paying off. Today I did 4.5 in 15 degree weather - brought the wrong gloves and boy did my hands hurt as they warmed back up once home.

Scott - I wish my times were that good in the pool. I will be spending more time in the pool this winter in order to try and fix that!

I planned to ride the trainer today for an hour, but the laptop wouldn't cooperate, so I rode for 20 minutes, than ran for an hour. It's really cold here in NJ (it was 25 when I ran)

That is so nice of you to say - i never thought someone would say they wish there times were as fast as mine. I am just glad I am starting to show a little bit of improvement.

Did 1000m drills today. 200 free/200 breast/200 kick/200 pull/200 free. Felt pretty good. First time using pull buoy and during the last lap kept trying to kick - was a pretty odd feeling.

I WILL get the Computrainer to play nice with the PC today. I WILL get it to work so I can ride. I WILL get the real time video to work so I have something interesting to watch. I WILL post the results.

Yesterday at the gym:
Cycled 5 minutes to warm up, then 10 minutes at moderate pace, then ran 8x3:1 run:walk.  First 3 minute run was 7:30 pace, second 2 were 8:00 pace, and final 5 were 8:30 pace.

Today at the gym:
Cycled 8 minutes to warm up, then 52 minutes at pace (difficulty 13) on random difficulty 20 second intervals.  After 20 minutes had to reduce difficulty (to 6), but then increased difficulty every couple minutes and was able to finish the last 20 minutes at only slightly lower difficulty level (12).  Finished with a 1 minute walk at 3 mph pace, then 2 minutes at 4.5 mph pace, 7 minutes at 6 mph pace, and a 10 minute cooldown at 3 mph pace.

Still tracking my food and finally getting into a groove with my workouts.  I am also very happy to report that I lost 2 lbs last week and gained back the belt notch that I lost over the holidays.

Hour long trainer ride for me tonight.  I'm thinking of breaking down and trying a new seat since the one that came with my bike is absolutely killing my soft tissue area.
