Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm betting that James will not be able to stop training while on vacation. Umbrella drinks and cruise food will work guilt into him faster than his mother. Hans, the ship fitness guru, will have him in a spin class and sprinting around the deck daily. I will guess 4-1/2 hours of some type of run/bike/swim for the week. Everyone take a guess! Scott |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hehe. I was going to post something along the lines of now that James is on his cruise we can talk about him . . . and we are! ![]() In other news, I sent in my registration and money for my first tri. ![]() On my run today, I completed 2.4 miles. Walking back to my car, I thought that I must be crazy to have hopes of swimming that far in a race in a few years. Tom |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Alright, Tom! You have money in the game so you are committed! Good luck on your first tri. I think you will be amazed when you look back at the end of the summer and what you accomplished. That long swim won't look as bad then. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hmmm... I'm guessing James will do 5 hrs. It IS vacation after all. ![]() Tom... Way to go on the commitment! The swim is the scary crazy part in the tri, in my opinion! lol! Our tri is in 10 days! ![]() |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Looks like some of the women in the group will be the first out of the triathlon chute next week kicking us into the spring season. We all will be cheering you on next Saturday and a DNF will not be acceptable. Even if you have to float, push your bike, and walk - we want you to finish. This is your baseline event so your goal should be improvement from here. Best wishes and have a good training weekend. Scott |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Scott! We are scared, nervous, excited... did I mention scared? lol! The training continues, pushing towards our very 1st tri. Hardly seems real. And I still think we are a little crazy. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Scott for the support! I'm very excited and must admit curious about how this will go. I'm in the mountain bike class, there are only 5 of us and I'm the oldest by 10-16 years. Secretly, I hope to kick their butts! ;-) |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I am back from cruise food and beach living, it was a quick two weeks it seemed. And yes, I was guilted into to running and swimming while on vacation (didn't have access to a bike) I am happy to report that with all I ate (no alcohol for me) I only gained 2lbs, which is surprising cause I ATE ALOT! I really enjoyed the ocean swims and beach runs I got to do, but not it is time to get serious, Ironman Brnason is only 15 weeks away! I will be sending inspires tomorrow, but to all who are racing tomorrow, Good luck, have fun and enjoy it. Race hard and I hope you all meet your goals! |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Deer Creek Triathlon Women only Mini-sprint Time 1:14:31 I am forever changed. Can't express it enough. What an amazing experience. I loved how supportive the triathletes were of each other. There were women there of all ages, shapes and sizes. I was smoked by women much older than me and I cheered them on. What an inspiration! I did get kicked in the face while swimming, I didn't see her because the water was so full of swirling sand. Then there was a stall with lots of women all together. What do you do? Swim around? Push through? It got to a point where we were laughing about it. The bike portion wasn't bad. We were threatened by storms so the air was thick and held a brisk wind. I averaged 17.9 mph on my cateye. There were no other gears to go to on my MB. I used a new water bottle, who needs to look at it, it's a water bottle, right? No, I spun the piece open on the top, put it to my mouth and squeezed only to learn I'd opened the lid and squirted half the water down the front of me. Again, laughter. The hill, which wasn't really a big hill, geared as low as possible and stalled 3/4 of the way up....had to get off and walk it the rest of the way. I need to practice my gears and riding hills. The run. over half was in grass on a levy. That was different, I had been running on pavement or dirt, not grass. Hit an uneven part and did twist a knee, it's okay. About 1/4 of the way in a very important lesson came...cut the friggin toenails. I had a few bloody toes. I'm so happy to have done this. I feel more like myself than I have in a very long time, like coming home, can't really explain it. Have any of you felt that? We really can do anything we set our minds to. This year we are doing mini-sprints this season, with an full adventure sprint in Oct. My goals are to continue to impove my own physical fitness, to cheer on and support all other triathletes, especially those women on their first tri, and get ready for a full sprint next year. Oh, I did buy a new bike yesterday. It's a Trek 2.1 series in Lava Black ![]() |

That is something Ilove about racing. Being able to push past the pain and hurts and still coming out smiling! Congrats! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yup... we definitely had a good time! Renae is by far, a much better swimmer than me, and actually smoked me on the swim. Only catch was the swim time continued as you go up the hill into transition. And she stopped for the foot bath pans. ![]() |
![]() ![]() |
Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I love the footbaths! I always step into them is I can! And yeah, swim times can be deceiving if you have a 200 yd run to the timing mat! We want some pics!! |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, James, I'm sure you've read the posts while you where away on the little boat. How many hours did you work out? |
![]() ![]() |
Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() You said it was amazing when we push through when everything is telling us to stop. This reminds me of a yogic teaching. (I know, again with the yoga). There are kriyas where the yogi (not to be confused with the bear) or yogini (female yogi) sits or stands in one place and does a single movement over and over again for hours. It hurts, the body screams and eventually the muscles release and the pain is gone and one can go on for hours longer. I have done this is small doses. It must be similar with these Ironman races. |

How many hours did you work out? Yes I read it! LOL And Yes I was guilted into running on the boat while at sea. And then I really enjoyed swimming laps in the outdoor pool and running on the beach, so all in all, I ran about 17 miles and swam about 3 hours while on vacation. But it was nice, because I ran and swam because I wanted to, not because my training plan told me to! This 2 weeks also gave me time to heal up all the little aches and pains I have been having! Getting old sucks! |
