jmdraughn - 2011-09-11 7:52 AM Only one week left. Hope it will be wetsuit legal. I've looked for water temps but have not found any. At what point will they let us know?

If it is anything like last year the morning of.  Last year it was hotter the weeks leading up to the race and they still found the cold spots.  I think you will be safe to bring the suit.

for those of you that were there last year, is there a spot at the host hotel or around the bike drop area that would be conducive for a meeting either like at a coffee place early saturday afternoon or a place we could all go get dinner at since it seems like most people here would be interested in doing a meet up and i'm not real familiar with the venue

The host hotel has a couple of restaurants.  The Atrium cafe is nice and so is the Deli. Both open from 11 am to 5 pm.  As I recall there is not much around the host hotel, it kind of sits off by itself.

Hey Gang....late to the party. I only signed up 5 weeks ago as part of my build for IM Fla....

Been riding 70-85 mile long rides with climbs of 3-6 miles at 3-5%.....hope it's enough. I did preview the course on Youtube and it looks cool.....the grind uphilll should be rewarded on the back side.

Have a great taper week and see you on the beach!

This will certainly be a great training venue. Just one of the hills will be worse than anything you'll see at IMFL  Welcome, enjoy and good luck!

I'd be open for a morning coffee as well however if the cafe at the Chateau isn't open until 11 that may be a little too late for that. Would you all be interested in maybe doing a meet up at the cafe after the first race briefing say at 3:00 on saturday? Or any other suggestions?

Any benefit the road bike offers for the climbs will be negated on the descents.  I think it is a push at best.  Go with the one you are more comfortable with.

I agree with this. If anything, use the cassette with the largest cog (if you have different ones). I'm a decent climber and am going to use an 11-28. I don't often use the 28 but it's nice to have when I need it. Most of the hills on the course are longer versus steeper.

As others have mentioned, the climbs are not steep, but the biggest factor is that the descents are not technical at all. I raced last year but am going to Savageman this year. I'm taking the road bike to Savageman but I would definately take my tri bike back to Branson. If I were to guess, I think I'd probably be 10-15 minutes faster on my tri bike on the Branson course. The climbs would be about the same, but I'd be a lot faster on the downhills on the tri bike.

Hi guys,

Is anyone thinking about grooved tires in case it rains? I have been watching the weather forecast and it shows 40% chance of t-storms. I didn't do this race last year, but the descents seems to be pretty fast, so a little extra grip wouldn't hurt if it is wet. What are your thoughts?

The athlete guide for this year says T2 has to be setup on Saturday, so we may not have access to it Sunday morning like last year. Just wanted to note this since we discussed it earlier.

Does anyone know where to find information on the shuttles and parking at the finish area for Sunday morning?  I was under the impression that there were shuttles last year and there would be this year too.  Also, is there adequate parking (public parking lots) at the finish?

Thanks!

It is what it is, dont sweat the small things you can't change.  Spend more time focusing on a catchy line to say to me as you pass me!

I don't know but it irks me. I like setting up in the AM as much as possible.

I hope we miss the rain.  It sounds like the storm is leaving the area on Sunday.  Nice hi/low temps over the next few days.  Any idea on water temps?

Camping in the rain brings back the time we camped in South Carolina during Hurricaine Bob in 1985......In the Army.... Mmmmmmm.  And then Hiking in the rain the next day....

This is going to be GREAT!!!  First HIM, and I feel a PR caliber race! (really!) (no Kiddin'!)

I wonder why the participant list is so small... Last year my bib # was in the 1100's. I thought it was a great race. Maybe people just don't like hills or something.

Anyway, my weekend obligations just cleared up so I think I'm gonna head down and race. I'm in the middle B2B training so I guess I'll start my taper 3 days out. haha. Should be fun.

I am sincerely praying for no rain on Sunday. I do not look forward to those long fast downhills in the rain!
