Way to go Betsy!!  I swam 3000 yards today, for a total of 11100 for the month. My goal is 30,000, and I think I have one more swim to do this week, so I am on track!!

Alright, another day in the pool, 1600 down today, not too bad, after a rough week, it was good to get in the pool. After today I hope to keep my workouts above 2000, for an ex swimmer, I should be able to way more, but I just get bored. Good luck to all this weekend!!!!

Jeff- you are doing great!  It is so cool to see people swimming more and enjoying it and finding that they enjoy it as well.  It really makes me want to be a swim coach!

On the other hand, getting back in the pool feels great, but it makes me realize exactly how fit I was as a swimmer in high school.  I have a goal for 18,000 yards for the months, doing about 2000 per swim.  Back in the day, I did 80 - 100,000 yards a month!  It is crazy, but at the time it seemed so normal.  Respect for high school athletes is way up.

Florida Force rocks my world, I can't wait to see all of you guys at St. A's!

Yay! Thanks for the motivation and accolades Laura! This is a "four out of seven" swim week for me. More days IN the pool than out. This is what I've been working towards!! I think I need to change my Christmas Wish List though...need wetsuit, goggles, etc...gotta get this swim thing stapled down into my life now!!!

OK here's what we look like so far. I still have a few more people's numbers to get, but as of Monday morning, our stats are pretty good, though we're a little low on our "percent of the month to percent done" ratio. Stay tuned to Renee's official numbers thread for more info...

Awesome Betsy! You'll have an impressive total for the 19th!

I had a milestone tonight. OK I know this sounds like child's play to you guys, but to me it's a big big step. I swam 800meters, all crawl, no push offs, no stopping! And the best part was, I did it in 16:14 and didn't want to get out of the pool. I did tho, cuz I don't want to get too far ahead of schedule. But d@mn I feel good!!! Yay me! LOL

Congratulations on making that IMPORTANT goal!   It's exciting when you do that for the first time!   I recently did my first 1000 yard nonstop -- and was Major Pumped!

Keep up the GREAT work.  Team Utah may beat FLORIDA -- But you're a winner!

Yeah man, that's sounds awesome! My body is starting to really respond to all this swimming! I had the pleasure Saturday to watch a Masters Swim session for about 45 minutes or so at my son's swim meet . Then a swim clinic started towards the end of my 2000 meter swim. I got some free pointers by being in the lane right next to them. Even went under water to watch the stroke demo's! Next clinic is in Jan/Feb, sign me up!

Everyone is doing awesome, let's rock!

Thanks for the encouragement! It was a really good feeling. I really wanted to keep going, it was almost sad getting out of the pool. haha

Oh yeah, and whether Utah beats Florida or not, both our teams will be wearing our humiliation avatar, because team Canada is in the lead right now. We need to change that.

Hey, Teammies! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I've updated the spreadsheet and we're in stinkin' 7th place!

  1. Midwest Blizzards: 43% of overall goal, 92% at or above goal, 67% total score
  2. Crazy Canucks: 47-75-61%
  3. MidAtlantic Crabs: 40-50-45
  4. Carolina Curmudgeons: 31-43-37.1
  5. Team Utah: 40-33-36.6
  6. Northeast Pooltriots: 34-33-34
  7. Florida Force: 29-33-31
  8. Southwest Swashbucklers: 32-25-29
  9. Georgia Shockers: 32-25-28
  10. Texas Yeehaws: 28-17-22
  11. Pacific Ring of Fire: 26-17-21

I know it's tough with the holidays and shopping and whatnot. Stay on task - the swimming you do this month will be paying dividends in March and April. In fact, I decided to start this challenge in December because I knew that I needed it to motivate me so that I could have a strong swim during St. Anthony's in April. What about you - do you have a Spring tri that you are in training for this month?

Keep on swimming! The month's not over and there are many laps yet to be swum. You guys are doing great! Let's all keep up with inspiring each other in our logs.

Rich, how is the foot healing up (or not)?

Jeff,

I went and checked their logs for their numbers but only because they were on my team and I wanted to know where we really stood in the rankings (not a pretty picture!). If they had not been on my team, I would have left them blank.

That said, EVERYONE, please report your numbers to Jeff every Monday morning so that he can do his job. Many thanks.

We're cranking now! I'll have 4500 this week, I've never swam this much before. It's become a habit now, I can't wait to go again Saturday

BTW, I picked up a nice tip from another thread about facing/tilting the palms to the outside (within limits of course) on the entry. For me it helps to rotate the shoulder and when I begin my stroke it was very easy to keep the elbow high and do more gliding than turning. I did 100x10 today for my main set and each one of them was at least 15 seconds faster than I've ever done before this month, cool for me!

It's almost time to start reporting...so get those PMs and emails to me whenever you can between tomorrow and Monday morning. Can't wait to see how much better we're doing now. Should be a big boost from last week's numbers as I think they kinda "scared" us a bit...let's get this thing won!!!! Git 'r done! Ugh, did I just say that??

I am at 55% of goal - 7,910 yards. I got in the pool only once last week, totally off my plan. If not for the challenge, I wouldn't be swimming at all so I guess I should be glad for that.

Swimming tomorrow. Pool is closed Friday, Sunday and Monday and I don't know that I'll be able to slip away for a swim on Christmas Eve. My nephews will be here and I'd rather hyuck around with them. So, tomorrow and Wednesday need to be strong swim days for me.

Have a great week everyone.

(RedCorvette, thanks for the kick in the pants!)

It appears that Florida Force teammembers will be changing their signature lines to read as follows:

I joined the swim challenge started by Renee
Lose that thing...I thought there was no way.
but the other teams came to fight
their skilz are just out of sight
so humbled weakness our sig line does display.

I like to regularly change my avatar but I'm not looking forward to the humiliation avatar for the entire month of January. Ack.

No offense taken Renee...although I have to say, I never think of myself as a loser if I don't win everything. It's taken me a long time in my life to not think of myself as a loser...ask the scars on my wrists. I never have and probably never will win a race, a triathlon, or any other group sport such as this...but I NEVER EVER think that I'm a loser because of it. I'm happy being who and what I am now, and NO ONE...swimmers, triathletes, or everyday people, will ever make me believe otherwise!! YAY ME!!!

Jess - Woo hoo!!! That's how I'm thinking of it...and we may be behind our goal as a team, and I may be behind the "perceived goal" as percentage goes...but as far as my month's schedule, I'm ahead by 100meters. And I'll probably be ahead by more as of tonight...so I AM ALREADY A WINNER.

OK, now that I said that, let's take Renee's advice and kick some *** huh? No humiliation avatar for us...let's get it won!!!
