Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Accused Sexual Assaulter POTUS Endorses Accused Pedophile for Governor Originally posted by Oysterboy Originally posted by tuwood I agree, much of the problem is attributable to Congress, both during Obama and Trump, thus making rule by executive fiat almost necessary if anything at all is to get done. But I think that is where the President needs to step in and LEAD (oh, no, I said it). Look, losing the 20% edge of the far-right of the republican party is a reasonable compromise to pick up 40% support from independents and some centrist Democrats. Unfortunately, Trump has really poisoned those waters and there is much work to be done on his part (with some meeting in the middle) to get to where compromise is possible. Stop the tweeting, start acting presidential. The midterms are coming, it's not looking good for him. Originally posted by Oysterboy And could that be why there is no major legislation passed? I am concerned about this country being run by executive fiat, it is not how the democratic process should work, but seems to be the form of government we now have. That should worry those concerned about the Constitution Then you should really appreciate what Trump has done so far. He's unwound the vast majority of Obama's executive fiats. I do agree with you that it's not the way to govern and I frown upon them no matter who is doing them. As for no major legislation passed, the ACA debacle had nothing to do with Trump it had to do with a couple Republicans that are really Democrats that refused to vote for it in the Senate. McCain has an extremely high approval rating among Democrats and his approval rating among Republicans is terrible. Don't forget, any reaching out to broader constituencies has it's own perils. If he's enjoying 80%+ support among Republicans and compromises a campaign promise to appeal to independents or Democrats and picks up 5% from there at the expense of losing 10% of his Republican base he's gained nothing. I think our biggest problem in government today is the congress and their inability to compromise on anything. Trump could have 100% approval rating and they still wouldn't be able to get 1 single vote from a Democrat to change or repeal the ACA. Same thing for his tax plan. It's just weird and very dysfunctional. In spirit I agree with what you're saying, but I honestly don't know what compromise he could do that would get him a single vote on anything in the Congress form a Democrat. I jokingly say that he could push a bill for single payer healthcare and the Democrats still wouldn't vote for it because it was from Trump. I've seen it gradually grow more and more partisan election after election and it really got bad under Obama. Trump inherited the hyper partisanship, but I do agree he hasn't done much to try and shift the trend the other direction. I'm not even sure what he can do, to be honest. |

Nice! We're gonna have to chat about that eventually. Brewing my own beer is a bucket list deal for me. It was for me too. So a few years ago, Mrs Clause bought me a home brewing kit for Christmas. My son and I made the first batch following the directions to a t. After we bottle them, and let the sit for another xx amount of time for the carbonation to occurs we tried our brew. It was.....eh..... Nevertheless I was proud of it having made it ourselves and I ended up giving almost all of it away to friends and coworkers....asking each of them to 'rate' the beer. Some were brutally honest and said it was not that good but most were gracious and said it was "OK". So I made another batch. The only 'fun' part is when it's on the stove. The majority of 'work' is in cleaning the bottle, cleaning the pot, clean EVERTHING as everything has to be perfectly cleaned or you can ruin the whole batch. Bottom line, it was fun.....but not something I wanted to continue....so I gave away all the gear (except the big SS pot that my wife uses for canning now) to a friend of friends who wanted to try home brewing. I am told that the really fun part is selecting your own hopps and grains and making your own recipe not using the "kits" that I used. The kits are good to learn with but you can do all kinds of different things using your own recipes....including changing the ABV and.....can't think of the term but it is bitterness. Oh, the other 'fun' part was making all the bottles! Home brew kit was on order but I had not bought any empty bottles, just the caps. My job was then to produce 48 empty bottles by Christmas....the old kind of top that requires an opener not twist off. So I set out to drink a bunch of Dos Equis brown. I'd drink several and them soak in the sink to get the labels off. It was a tough mission but I succeeded and had the empties ready before Christmas! |

The problem was that while I enjoy the occasional beer, my wife really loved the stuff but never helped with all the bottle washing and it is all the washing that drove me to end my beer making career. Now I just buy it from a store like God meant humans to do. |

Boeing use to be there to and I worked there for 3 years but they have since pulled up stakes there....sold to Spirit Air I think. The prevailing E/W (or W/E?) winds there make it a great place to test airplanes or so I was told. |
