Extreme Veteran 642 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! Well, I just got back from the gym and this time I did 4 minutes of walking and 1 minute of running. I wasn't sure I was going to make it through the minute, but I did every time and even added 5 seconds on the last one! I was thinking today that at the point that I'm at right now, I have no idea how my endurance is going to increase to what it needs to be for race day. I know I need to trust my schedule, but I'm already getting a little worried. |

I first started with 30 seconds of running, and 4:30 walking. I can attest to the fact that sticking with it and realizing that every day will not always be better, or the same as the last, but over time you'll be there. |

Regular 79 Leesburg, | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! So I haven't fallen off of the bandwagon... I have been SO stressed out this week! Work has been beyond extra busy and I have been working extremely extended hours plus I have had a few personal things going on (buying a new car, plus some other stuff). I know that I would feel better if I were able to workout but the past few days have been absolutely crazy and I have had negative amounts of time. I know that things will get better after today soooooo... I will be at the gym nice and early tomorrow - and I can't wait. |

In reality, triathlon can be a lonely sport if you are logging miles alone. BUT, most of the people I am now in a tri club with started off that way.. including myself. In fact im back to logging most of my miles alone, due to time constraints, and knowing I wont always have someone out on the course with me to get me through the tough moments. Also, you will meet many others in your position at the race. If you know of any tri clubs, or running clubs in your area, that could be a avenue to go also. So hang in there, keep up with your goal, and dont let someone elses decision affect you and your life!! Youve got us for support to! Edited by kellc09 2008-01-17 9:13 AM |

Member 49 NW Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! Try not to let it get you down! My first year training I hooked up with different people in different sports--I had my swim buddies, my bike buddies, and my run buddies. Some of them even got together and made two teams--so I still had someone to do the race with--lots of someones, in fact. So, you never know what kind of opportunity this will open up! And, as Kelliesaid, you still have us... kellc09 - 2008-01-17 10:12 AM kappie72 - 2008-01-16 9:51 PM So, I got off the phone with the friend that was supposed to do the triathlon with me in June. Extreme Veteran 642 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! Crap. I think I was a little too overzealous in my walk/run training today. I have one bad knee due to some clumsiness when I was in 7th grade. Seriously, I just fell and cracked my kneecap. I wish the story were better I know that part of the problem is my weight, but I'm working on that. In the meantime, how much will the right running shoes help my knee problem? I'm going to brave the single degree temps on Saturday to get out and get some. |

Yeah the right shoes are a necessity if your going to try and run more Make sure you go somewhere where the people know what they are talking about and hopefully they can help you get into a good pair for you! |

Yep I went and got fitted for shoes by a guy who worked at Fleet Feet. Also if you have the money and really want to get something very specific you can look at orthodics. Best wishes and keep it up!! |

When I first started it was just me and after being on BT I met Chris(trigods) and we have become great friends and usually do lots of races together. it really made my first year a blast even though I was always BOP it was great sharing with a fellow BTer and friend. |

Extreme Veteran 642 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I went to my chiropractor on Saturday morning and he gave me some good stretches and core exercises I can do to strengthen my back and abs. I was surprised at how tight I was because of the workouts I have been doing. But he worked wonders on me He talked me into getting orthotics which I am going to get fitted for on Tuesday. I also went and bought my running shoes that morning. It was very difficult for me to spend that much money on a pair of shoes...I hope my knee appreciates it! |

Master 1728 Pulaski TN | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! I had a pretty good week. Had a nice and frigid run outside yesterday and was up at 5am and at the gym for just a nice easy morning workout. Pretty busy week and my main goal is to make it to the pool atleast once this week. |

Veteran 122 Michigan | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! I had a pretty good week-- starting to develop some new routines with a new job-- specifically getting a workout in at lunch. So far, so good. And I'm glad everybody is feeling better! I got the results of my fitness assessment from the trainer at work last week. I was asked to post the results-- but it would make a pretty long post so I put them in my log here http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/index-weekly.asp?memberid=31789&year=&month=&day= on friday the 18th. Hopefully that link will work... still learning. Have a good week everyone! |

Extreme Veteran 642 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! Well, I got back from the gym and somehow I managed to shave 33 seconds off of my pace. I was shocked to see it! And if it's not my imagination, it seems to be a little easier to run for a minute at a time. Now if I could only get to that pesky pool! That's my goal for this week. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can go to get tips on running technique? Being new to running, I'm sure I'm doing everything wrong |

Veteran 300 Tacoma | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's 2008 group - FULL! I signed up for a Running Form class in 2 weeks, it's $15 & they video tape you & give class room instruction. I have a doctors appointment scheduled for this Thursday, my main issue is my left knee, I think I have IT band syndrome. I have been hitting the gym, but it hasn't helped. Today it was pretty annoying. I will also talk to him about stress fractures, something I've been concerned about, but didn't have any of that type pain today, so I hope it's not an issue. Does anyone know the name of the test I need to take to determine my lactic acid threshold or to determine my max heart rate so I can figure out my heart rate zones? |
