wgraves7582 - 2010-04-15 8:41 AM Well I need an update peeps

I am back at work today and my stress level is just out of this world right now!  I feel like I could explode and would be quite good with that at 8:30 this morning!!!!!!

Thank God I do not drink because I would be sick as a dog tomorrow - LOL

Any other words of wisdom besides finding someone and beating the crap out of them for medicinal purposes - should have used the heavy bag this morning - LOL

Hang in there, Bill!  You've got the entire A-Team in your corner... Murdoch, Face, B.A. Barrackus, and the cigar smoking guy whose name we still can't think of!  I PITY THE FOOL!!!

Of course!!! It's Hannibal!  Had to go to IMDB.com to get the name or it would have bothered me all day.

LOL - I was just about to do the same thing.  It would have drove me nuts too!

Here is a verse of a song for you:

Does Jesus care, when my heart is pained, too deeply for mirth and song;
As the burdens press, and the cares distress,
And way grows weary and long?
O yes, He cares, I know He cares! His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

Oh, that was an excellent sermon for all that has been stressing me out this morning, too. I was going to post a major vent, but I feel better now.

tri808 - 2010-04-13 12:02 AM Had another tough masters class.  I literally almost threw up a tuna sandwich in the first 10 minutes.
I can't eat within 2.5 hours of a really intense workout...especially seafood.

I was just thinking 'bout ya, Mel! How is Dad doing (as well as you and the rest of the fam?)
I am doing quite well...I've had some nice distractions in school and in a SO.

My dad is continuing to decline.  I will be going over tomorrow.  My mom has said that he isn't trying to communicate anymore.  She is looking into a home for him...but if he is shutting down we may be able to care for him at home.  It has been his stubbornness that is the most difficult to deal with.

Frown

Sorry about your dad.  Glad at least you have some happy distractions keeping you busy!

Of course we sent another offer so it'll be interesting to see what they come back with tomorrow.

Have a good night all and I shall see you in the morn...or afternoon for most of you!

Good luck with the counter offer!  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Are you like me after a swim ~ just can't get enough to eat?? I have no clue why but I am totally ravenous after a swim...not a run...not a ride..only swimming!

Yes!  For me it's just swimming too.  I don't remember being this hungry after swim practices in high school..  but that was long ago and I don't rememebr many things frm that long ago.  Smile  Yesterday was worse than other times - I just could not seem to get enough to eat.  I swear, I could have eaten a horse and still have been hungry!!

You know, I read somewhere that the reason swimming doesn't suppress your appetite the way running/biking/other sports does is because your core temperature doesn't get as hot (because you are being cooled off in the water).  If I have time later, I'll try to find an article I've read about how swimming, especially in cold water, actually stimulates your appetite.

Throughout my training last year, I never really had a huge appetite after swimming, but that may be because if it was in the pool, I always went in the steam room and took a hot shower after.  And if I did an OWS, I always did a 2-mile run after to practice my transitions.  Both those things would have increased my body temperature.  (I don't like being cold which is why even though I like swimming, I don't actually do it too often, and I follow it with body-warming activities, haha).

I've read that too and it seems to make sense...  but for myself I don't really notice a difference when I jump in the hot tub after.  Although maybe between the pool and the hot tub I'm thinking about food and I just have a one track mind?  Once it's there I can't think of anything else?  Also, I think it's even worse when I sprint and work harder which I think would raise my body temperature more than just swimming at my cruisin' pace.  Maybe it's the ups and downs of my body temp when I do sprints?  I don't know...  I do know that I need to remember to bring a snack with me after I swim so I am not so tempted to get my food fix at a fast food place on the way home!

I didn't get in any workouts this weekend and it doesn't look like I'll get to the gym today.  There is so much going on with the kids with softball, soccer, birthday parties, etc. and add on top of that yardwork, general house-realted stuff and it just seems like there's no time on the weekends.  Then I'm stuck with this Monday morning guilt that I didn't exercise.  Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome weekend, but I just wish I was more disciplined to squeeze in a run or a bike ride.

"Looks like somebody's got a case of the Mondays!"

I was feeling the same way yesterday.  I started feeling really tired and crummy by early evening.  Finally, I had to just stop what I was doing and go for a quick run.  Got home, took a shower, and all was better.  Amazing how addicting exercise becomes!

Ain't that the truth.

rnihill - 2010-04-12 10:17 AM Here's a question I have today...  Do any of you HATE your bike helmet?

My helmet is not anything fancy.  It's a pretty basic, boring one that I got about 5 years ago (when I bought a bike so I could actually bike in my first tri I had signed up for).  At the time, I didn't want to spend a lot of $$ on a helmet since I wasn't sure I would even survive the tri, or if I did whether I would ever want to ride again.  I just wanted to protect my noggin.

Yesterday during my ride, I was reminded how much I LOVE riding outside but how much HATE my helmet.  It gives me a headache everytime I put it on.  The straps dig into my chin and by the time I get home I feel like it's choking me.

For those that may actually like your helmet, is there such a thing as a more comfortable helmet?  Or am I just a big cranky-pants who may never be happy with a helmet?  I'm at the point now where I don't mind spending some money on a helmet for increased comfort (and safety, obviously).  I just don't want to throw money away looking for something that may not exist...

I think I'm rambling...  Undecided

I have problems with my helmet too and need a new one. I will definitely be looking for something a little more comfortable than my last one.
Another note on helmets. I'm sure most of you already know this. Helmets need to be replaced occasionally even if they seem fine. Age, heat, sweat and other factors have an impact on the foam and it degrades and won't do as good of a job at protecting your head. Having broken a helmet I am a big advocate of replacing your helmet on a regular basis.

wgraves7582 - 2010-04-14 7:23 AM Morning everyone - back from KC and while I was gone for the day it turns out that my father is going to be admitted to a local nursing home for some respit care due to some health concerns from his parkinsons.  He has lived with us for 4 years now.  Basically my wife was the bearer of all the news since I was gone and I have to give kudos when deserved - she did a great job handling it all.  I spoke to the doctor (a friend) last night as my only part in the process.  We are waiting to hear back from the insurance company to determine which action to take and when it will happen.

Could be today - could be next week.  Guess our God knows a lot more than I do - LOL.  I asked for clarity on the TransIowa withdrawal and this wipes the fog away pretty quickly if I do say so myself.

I will be around - not totally with it yet - 5 hours of sleep with 20 hours of travel will do that to Bill (me not the other one - LOL).

Hope you all had a great day yesterday - our weather is beyond words.  Time for a bike ride tonight - in the dirt!!!

Sorry to hear about your dad. Good thing you listened and dropped the race. Hope things work out.

Gone for a week and just under 19 pages to catch up on.  You guys have been busy. Hope its been a good week and that everyone is doing well.

Hey, Paul's back!  How was the trip?

Overall it was a good trip.  One of the chaperons got a phone call and ended up flying home for an emergency.  Good thing we had an extra chaperon. Weather was nice until someone sent some rain down from SF but it didn't last long. The kids are a great bunch.  No real troubles from any of them. There were three groups that competed, Jazz, orchestra and wind ensemble. They got a bronze and two silver awards.  One student got two of the eleven individual awards that were given out. My wallet disappeared, along with a back up credit card, cash, Disneyland pass and who knows what else. I'm working on getting the stuff replaced now. I'm glad I keep my drivers license and main credit card in my cell phone case or I would have really been in trouble. It was a good trip and I'm glad I went.

I thought those days of the 3-martini lunches were over, but I guess not.  If they were extra "jovial" at lunch, you could probably slip out and go home and they wouldn't even notice.
