motoxmom1 - 2012-01-20 8:52 PM I'm running a 5K to benefit our local Meals on Wheels program at 8am. Temp overnight is going to be 11 with a 10-15mph wind. That will put the wind chill in the single digits. I usually don't run in single digits but I will be making an exception for this good cause. I hope they get a good turnout but with these temps I'm doubting it. Looking forward to a HOT chocolate when I'm done! On the upside my husbands office is directly across from the starting line so no waiting out in the cold for me! When they blow the gun I'll take off running out the office door!

And I thought 38 was cold. Hope you have a good race and they have a good turnout.

Let us know how it goes.

Texas - nice job on the PR!

Moto - hope the race went well!

Fit - I am soooo jealous, I ordered mine in december but won't get it until late February.  Since I only paid around $300 with free shipping I can't complain too much.  I am using my HR strap from my 405

18 mile ride yesterday and a bit windy.  Today 15 miles but fast, pushed hard since I knew I didn't have a lot of time.  Ended up pulling for someone for 10 miles, great motivation to work hard.

Thank you all for the well wishes! It was cold. One bank showed 9 the other 10, but the wind did subsided over night. Looked like maybe 125 people braved the weather. My time was not great this morning. 30:15. I had to slow to almost a walk twice when my nose froze shut so I could wiggle out of my mittens, get a kleenex from my pocket and blow.

Well time is all relative. For me that time would be smoking fast- lol. My goal is to one day get to a 10 minute mile and 30:15 is actually faster than that. So I say you did a great job! Especially dealing with the cold- no way I could ever do 10 degrees. It makes me cold just typing that temp- lol.

Gary,

I totally understand about being willing to wait in order to get the discount. I too would be waiting if the stars hadn't just aligned up right for me- lol. Just so happened that dh ordered through Amazon with a deal on Am EX rewards points at Christmas time. We didn't have to pay out of pocket at all and even only had to use 3/4 of the points it should have taken- so it translated into a 25% off discount. It was just my lucky day that some third party sellers on Amazon got them in stock so I could cancel the Amazon order and reorder through the third party seller. I totally would have waited otherwise as that's just too much extra money to spend just to get it a couple weeks sooner. I work too hard for my money. I got my email today saying that mine has been shipped. I can't wait. Now to figure out how to use it- lol!

I personally think that those who ordered on heartmonitors with the discount are crazy if they cancel and pay full price. But that's just me. I can get impatient but not enough to spend an almost extra 100 or so dollars. Or maybe they're just independently wealthy- lol. Then I'd say go for it.

I want to be a 74 yr old with legs like that! I'm going to print this out and post it for motivation! I used an online life expectancy calculator yesterday to determine how close to 100 (a goal I've had since I was a kid) I will live. It said 98 based on my health scores from March 2011. I'll do it again this March when I get my new scores. It's kind of neat, if you want to check it out here it is.

Moto - congrats on a tough race!

Everyone, please make sure to update the race calendar so we all know when folks are racing.  I have the calendar set to send me notifications (and you can set it up the same).

Yesterday went for a short ride before my sons soccer game.  Decided to push a bit and on the way back I noticed that I had a rider drafting off me.  So I used it as motivation to push hard all the way back.  Good workout for me.  Today is a 6 mile run while kids are at church youth.

Diddo, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Walked/jogged with the dog this morning in full parka and snow boots. Got a mile in though. 20 degrees and a wind stong enough to make my eyes water.

Greetings Friends Laughing

Name: Yang

My Story: I am currently a college student studying nursing in Madison, WI.  I've always have participated in sports through out my time in school, be it wrestling to track. I love the energy you get from hearing the crowds cheering or crossing the finish line. I have ran many charity 5k and 10k events and wanted to try something new. Low and behold the only think I came to was to participate in triathlons! I'm super psyched to compete! I'm relatively new to the sport, but I think with guidance from my fellow veteran and newbie tri-athletes I'll be ready. My goal is to compete in an Iron man in the next few years and would love to make it to the IronMan Championship in my life time! It would be a life time accomplishment!I feel by having a mentor I can stay more focused and increase motivation on my work outs and I believe the correct thing to do is to surround yourself with people have a passion for this sport too! I have tons of questions, and am open to advice!

Current Training: swim 4+ miles a week,  bike 25 + miles a week, run 15 + miles a week. Also do strength training, and intense cardio workouts. Going to adjust my work out plan to Olympic - 3x Balanced - 20 Week training plan.

Game Plan: I have two main triathlon events I'd like to participate in this year:

1.) Capital View Olympic Distance Triathlon (June 10th)
:swim 1500 meters, bike 24.85 miles, run 6.2 miles

2.)Rev3 WI Dells Half distance Triathlon (August 12th)
:swim 1.2 Miles, Bike 56 Miles, Run 13.1 Miles

3.)Also, will be doing aquathons each month (May-August)
:swim 1000 Meters, Run 3.1 Miles

Hey all.  Congrats on races and PRs.  I miss racing, has been since August, and I am jealous of all of you.

Just imported a 20 week HIM plan into my planned training.  I will start tomorrow.  Take a look and see if it looks reasonable.  I generated with the custom plan generator here on BT.

Hope all is well.

Rob

Wendy - Congrats on your race! I'm impressed that you got out there in the cold.

Texas - Nice job on the PR!!

Robert: I cant see your HIM plan - is it because I'm not a gold or silver member? What does it look like generally?

Hope everyone has a good week. I've been dealing with sick kiddos for the week so training hasnt been where I want it but hopefully this week will be better.

Hey all!
Hope all is well. I'm starting a strenght training program designed by Dave Scott. There are some leg exercises in there and i was wondering, if I am running pretty hard should I not xo the leg exercises? Staying pretty sore right now. Alternating my run and weight training days. Just dont want to overwork my legs. Not biking or swimming yet. Thanks for any info and good luck to all!
