Go Phillies!

sooooo, I'm going to wear my cornhusker red tomorrow and see if anyone notices

That's awesome.  Doubt anybody will notice.

LOL!  I doubt it too

oh, I was pretty embarrassed yesterday - a bunch of women had big sparkly pins that looked sort of like this

so, I asked one of them what the pins were for -

ummm, the Phillies!

That's funny.

Another 3.61 miles in today.  Legs are starting to losen up again, unfortunately it is getting cold so my lungs are now freezing up.  Just my luck.

It's getting a little cold here, as well.  I actually had to break down and turn the heat on last night.

Apparently, I'm expected to accomplish something while I'm at work.  Time to go earn my paycheck.

I work odd hours because I'm going to university during the day so my boss always leaves part-way through my work night.  So I have to self-police to make sure I get the appropriate amount of work done.  I don't want to lose the freedom I have to set my own hours.

as a manager, I try and be as 'hands off' as possible

it's difficult when I have an employee that really likes to be micro managed - believe it or not, there are quite a few of those folks out there

Umm yeah we had someone working with us for awhile that was like that... drove my boss bananas... he just didnt know what to make of it... then she felt neglected because he wasnt talking to her every day stuff...

The worst kind of boss is the one that swings between 100% hands off and micro managing depending on what they are thinking about at any time...

I work on the logic that I get my job done and if I need help or input I ask... but I do a lot of that one on one with people rather than meetings as it just takes less time!

I went to my ten year high school reunion a few years ago.  It was interesting to meet up with people that I hadn't seen in...well...ten years.  For the most part, everyone was essentially the same.  I ended up getting along famously with the same folks that I hung out with in my teenage years.  So I'm sure you and your friend will still have plenty in common.

She was easy to chat to on the phone last night so Im optimistic - I dont have many really good friends here, not sure why - Ive just really struggled ever since i moved to Sydney...

So Im cautiously optimistic that it will be good to have someone around!

if nothing else, it will be nice to see a familiar face

I think it's hard to make friends in a new place - I'm struggling a bit here in PA

how long have you lived in Sydney?

5 years.. you think I would have it sorted by now...

I havent had the best luck... made one great friend not long after I moved here who moved away within the first year.

There was the friend I got into triathlon with... who after one race got a new boyfriend and went off the deep end for awhile...

In my old job I spent quite a bit of time socialising with the people i worked with too which made a huge difference as I didnt feel like I needed many other friends. But my two closest friends from then have moved on too!

Then I was in a long term relationship so we had people we did things with...

Im a bit useless...

You're not useless at all. I've been in NYC for 10.5 years and I'm still finding my way! It's amazing how difficult change can be. And after being with someone for 11 years I'm single for the first time so in many ways, I feel like I'm starting all over again. So I could use any and all advice any of you can share. I'm just glad I'm old enough and have figured out (somewhat) who I am by now. That might make it a little easier. Although I imagine I'll be on here complaining about the slim options in no time

How are you feeling Emily?

Not too bad.  Still a little stuffy and my throat is sore but I think I'll survive.

I've been drinking hot tea with honey to help with the sore throat so I'm jacked on caffiene.  This should help me get through the work night but I may not be able to sleep until next Friday.

sore throats are so annoying!

Did we all catch the same thing? I've been miserable. I had to do a 3-hour video-conference meeting today and I had to shout for the others to hear me, I totally lost my voice! My chest is heavy. I hate this feeling.

It always seems to be the folks a few steps higher up the ladder that tend to manage this way.  They'll get all stressed out about something and then it just rolls downhill.  I'm near the bottom rung so I've experienced more than a few fallouts from frenzied management.
