Hey all!

I just want to send a shout out about how helpful this site and mentor group have been. I have to admit, I get a cheap thrill when I post my training to my training log.

I am working hard on the swimming portion and should probably change my plan to be more swim focused, but I don't want it to overwrite my actual entries. Anyone know if it will?

Hope everyone's training is going well.

Bailsworth - LOL, so do I.  You can change your plan (or import a different plan) and it won't affect your Actual data.

Over the weekend two cyclists were hit by a drunk driver, his 2nd DUI.  One was killed and the other is in the hospital.  I don't know either but one just started at a LBS' and evidently active in the cycling world here in BTR.  Very sad.

Haven't been feeling well all day and am taking tonight as a SRD.  Back at it tomorrow.

Gary, sorry your under the weather. I saw that on channel nine. Apparently he worked there cor a while.
They said he was working at a bike shop. I bought my last bike at capital cycle ober there by the mall. I wonder if that is were he worked? Thats terrible. Baton Rouge needs to be more bike friendly. College town, hello!! I heard they were goinv to pave the levee all the way to new orleans! That would be cool. Anyway hope ya feel better! Night everyone.

Texas - he worked at Mid-City Cycles I believe.  Yeah, BTR needs to be more bike friendly.  Despite what seems to be some strong efforts by a dedicated group in BTR the city continues to forget about cyclists.

Now paving the levee to NOLA would be awesome!  For IM training I could ride 112 miles without going onto city streets!

I am running 3 days and strength training 3 days and off Sunday. Now when i start biking and swimming do i substitute that for a run? Also, do i still work out my legs while running? That
Would be 6 days a week w/my legs.

It just feels better when I am training for a specific race and using a plan.  On day #2 of 140 for my HIM and just having fun.  I know it will be up and down, but I had the best 1650M swim ever yesterday and my hill/tempo workout today felt great.

Wishing everyone the best on a dreary Tuesday in the upper Midwest.

Depends on your goals but if your main goal is Tri's then drop the ST workout.  ST is great but no substitute for S/B/R

Rainy here also, we need the rain so I can't complain too much.

I'm also day 2 into my 20 week program. What HIM are you doing? It does feel great to have a reason for training again.

Picked up a copy of February's Triathlete magazine.  Anyone who is a newbie should get this issue.  There is a section for beginners in this issue and its pretty good.  Definite must read.

Also, someone mentioned that treadmills may not be good for you.  There was a short article on it and the basic reasoning is that its similar to running downhill (paraphrasing here).  They recommended to set the incline up to help with this.

I am doing the Grand Rapids Tirathlon in Ada, MI June 10th.  It is not a IM 70.3 event but it is a USAT event.

How about you?

Good Morning everyone.  Haven't had much time to post over the past week or so, but I've been reading the forum and updating the training logs every day.

Had a rather uncomfortable swim this morning.  Ended up being three in my lane, and the other two (both ladies) were great swimmers, including one who just finished up with the Alabama swim team.  I was uncomfortable because I'm not a very good swimmer, have never swam circles, and it felt like I was in the way the entire time.  Of course discomfort makes us work harder, and I ended up with a great workout.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Chris

Got a nice swim in yesterday and was supposed to run last night but got home late and ended up running this morning.  Plan on riding the trainer tonight but since I am taking my employees out tonight for drinks that may not happen until tomorrow.

Later all!

That kind of training will pay off. Try to get in a busy lane on a regular basis.  It will get you used to swimming in close proximity to others. I grew up swimming on a local team and thought I had the swimming part covered. At my first tri the swim was the worst part for me! I was not used to having people kick, hit, or swim over the top of me! I got kicked hard in the ribs about 25 yards off shore and it took the wind right out of me! I thought I was going to drown as the air went out and the lake water came in. I learned some valuable lessons that day! I have also done a couple of tri's that had pool swims so that lane sharing will come in handy! Keep up the good work!

You'll also receive a series shirt!(Yea, I know, 'bout time for a new race T drawer!) Though you've already registered for Oxbow, you will still receive discounts by registering for the series. The registration site allows for your Oxbow registration to be taken into consideration.

Gary - Note that the Tri New Roads is a super sprint with a 400m open water swim, 12 mile ride, 2 mile run.  A great race for someone new to Tri's to do.

Great swim this morning. 2050m, but I did drills and intervals for the first time in a long time. I felt like I was swimming with purpose rather than just going at the same pace. It feels good to train for a race again. Happy Thursday
