To sum up my strange convolvoluted story...

Guy 2 was suddenly with out a place to live.  He got a storage unit and rented a truck for his stuff.  I helped him clean the apt. and get the last of his stuff to the storage unit-he doesn't have a car.  He decided that he would hang out a work until he could find a place to stay.  I talked him into coming to my parents place for the 4 day weekend.  He had been there several times before for BBQs and such.  I contacted a friend of mine who has an amazing house in the area, but spends most of her time on the east coast.  She and her family were in town for the holiday so I had everyone meet-My guy friend wasn't happy that I was making plans for him.  I had mentioned the housing possibility earlier and he had sounded interested.

They all seemed to get along and he moved in to the lovely house-doing a little seasonal tasks in exchange for the room.  Did I mention that this home is within biking distance/less than an hour walk from his work.

I am rambling...

I am more or less done.

He has always been unique in that it can be difficult to get him to join in on activities-between research for his masters/phd/something like that, work and training...and training...and training.

I can think of several possible reasons why he didn't want to hike w/out the mutual friend.  It could be one, a combination or something else entirely.

he really had his heart set on going with his college buddy

He is scared of my driving(I drive very well, but rather aggressively at times-and sometimes I 'take the scenic route'

I am too energetic/talkative

It could be that I mentioned Guy #1 was trying to do some matchmaking.

He is afraid he won't be able to control himself if he is alone with me Wink

I will manipulate him into being my man-slave again-does that sound wrong.

and there are other possibilities.

I don't think fear of being made into your manslave would prevent him from going. It would probably give him incentive.

I don't think I have seen him since I helped him move into his new mansion.  And he has my sunglasses too.  That was Labor day weekend and the following week.  I have talked to him a couple of times and have a couple of emails/PM.

I spent an entire day helping him move out of his apartment, took him to my parents place, and let him assist me in cutting holes in the roof/ceiling.  We installed a solatube.  The next two days I helped him however I could.

I took him to my parents for the weekend fully intending to have him help with the home improvements-and didn't fully inform him.

Hahaha. Being a General Contractor my wife has several friends that rope me into various things like this all the time.

Really-all I wanted/needed was someone to bounce ideas off, assist in getting tools here and there-garage, roof, attic-It was much easier once I cut the hole in the roof, I didn't have to crawl through the really awkward attic as often.  He joined me in the attic once , but firmly declined venturing in again.

He is a great guy-just not easy to figure out.  I haven't known him all that long though.  He grew up in a family of 9.  It is funny to see him interact with my family.  It is like a light is turned on inside him-he glows.

I usually just do it all but I would let you help and join in as you wanted to help. My wife told her friend a few months ago that I would help her with her bathroom for FREE. We do do these things to make a living. I ended up working there a solid week completely gutting her master bath and re-drywalling, tiling, plumbing and installing new cabinets toilet and shower. About 50 60 hours of work for free.

My wife then said. I didn't realize it was going to be such a big deal. Her friend gave us a $25 gift card to Walmart. Wow thanks!!!!

umm-that is wonderfully generous of her...I would feel sooooo guilty. But you probably figured that out from my previous dialog.  I still feel guilty about 'tricking' him into helping me.  And I spent at least 2 full days helping him, found him a place to live(rent free), and helped him move in.  I also fixed him a bunch of really good meals!

aDid she at least pay for the supplies???
