EVENING GHOULIES.

what a frigging fantabulous day.

i kicked it off w a 1000 yd swim.  i was meeting a friend, but she never showed.  not sure whats up w that.  not like her to not show.

but, never fear, a cute boy came by.    he asked if he could share a lane w me.  why yes, yes of course you can.

he is just starting out swimming so i was able to give him some pointers.

then i went and did some ab work and few ST exercises.

then it was off to run a few errands, and then my lunch date.

we met at local resturant that was just renovated.  WOW.  its AWESOME.  they have this spectacular front room....high ceilings.  floor to ceiling windows.  it was almost like being out of doors.  on a GORGEOUS day like today, it was the perfect place to have lunch.

SO enjoyed myself.  turns out the the 'luck guy' as TOM referred to him, 'noticed' me two years ago.  he was quick to point out that i was so 'into running' at the time that i didnt even give him the time of day.  and i was quick to remind him that i was giving him the time of day today.

very, very nice guy.

and we had a lovely lunch.  turns out he loves to boat on the same lake i do, where my brothers camp is.  how cool is that???

were gonna go road bike race tire shopping next. what else do two triathletes do when they go out right???  LOL.

though i made him promise that food HAD to be involved at some point in the day.  he agreed wholeheartedly.

keeping it casual, fun, lighthearted.

he's a good friend/keeper for sure.  if nothing else we have lots in common.

[im not looking to get into a relationship right now...or anytime soon]

then i ended the day w a UNBELIEVABLE KICK ARSE SPIN CLASS.

im tellin ya.  i SERIOUSLY was gonna hurl it was that FRIGGING HARD.

i worked it AS HARD AS I COULD MUSTER, AND THEN SOME...and DIDNT BREAK

WOOO HOOO FOR ME!

so alls well that ends well.

I had an interesting run tonight.  I was running one of my normal loops and came across a section of the trail that was completely flooded.  It was either cross or turn around and add a mile and a half to my run.  Unfortunately for my feet and shoes I didn't feel like running any extra so I forded the minor river

Good morning Ghoulies!

Top of the morning to ya!

They say Mother Earth is breathing
With each wave that finds the Shore
Her soul rises in the evening
For to open Twilight's door
Her eyes are the stars in Heaven
Watching o'er us all the while
And her heart it is in Ireland
Deep within the Emerald Isle

ironannekidd - 2010-03-15 10:03 AM Question for THE VILLAGE

I may put this over in Tri Talk, too, I'm not sure.

I have bad feet, I wear custom orthotics and I pronate.

Last fall when I was going to PT, I had 2 PT's tell me I need a stability shoe. I used the little shoe finder on Runner's World, and it recommends a stability shoe.

In the fall I got a stability shoe. After I started running in it I started having knee and foot pain. I stopped using that shoe and got a cushioning shoe (osteoarthritis and all that good stuff). The knee and foot pain went away.

Last Saturday I went to a speciality running store and had my gait analyzed, they recommended a stability shoe, so that's what I got, a different kind than last time.

I started having knee and foot pain again yesterday on my run.

Should I stick with the often recommended stability shoe and hope my body learns to love it?

Or

Should I listen to my aches and pains and go back to a cushioning shoe?

I would err on the "listen to your body" side of the coin. That said, if your PT says you need something for your pronation you should consider that as well. How does it work if you wear orthotics with your cushioning shoe?

When I wore the orthotics with the cushioning shoes I had no pain in my joints at all.

Ann(e) I am not a specialist but I am thinking that orthotics with stability = too much stability

Cushioning + orthotics = stability that you need.

That is how I see it.

FWIW  I agree with Bill.

I wore my orthotics with neutral shoes and did fine when I run.  But I didn't want the extra trouble of making sure everything was in the right place when I put them on in transition.  So a running store fit me with new shoes w/o the orthotics.   They are  stability shoes.  So far I have no trouble when I wear them (up to 8-9 miles or two hours).

For the rest of my day, I still wear my orthotics with neutral shoes.  Works for me.

I've thought about trying to run without the orthotics, especially since I have the stability shoes. I get a lot of blisters on my feet and I'm sure it's because of the rubbing on the orthotic.

I have a short 3 mile run tomorrow, maybe I'll give it a try.

FWIW, I agree that listening to your body is the best choice.  I wear custom orthotics for running and every day use.  I also had issues with blisters at first, but the orthotist (is that what they're called????) has adjusted them several times until there isn't a problem.  If they won't fit in the shoe, I don't buy them. I have a closet full of Prada that haven't been worn since I had foot/knee problems.  And don't ask.  I'm not getting rid of the Italian shoes.  Just in case.

I'm with everyone else on this one.  Listen to your body.  I too have orthodics (Really bad PF, high arches, pronation, you name it.)  However in my running shoes I do not wear my custom orthodics and I'm doing fine.  I am a walker, not a runner (but i'm trying to run) and I've walked/ran 1/2 mary's.  I wear the orthodics in all my everyday shoes and also have a closet full of shoes that I presently can't wear.

lest you think all i do is play all day....ok, well i play most of the day.

i did call our school districts administration building and talked to the human resource director about PARAPROFESSIONAL POSITIONS come the fall.

she's sending out an app.  and seemed impressed w my experience/credentials, the little bit that i told her over the phone.

a 'HIGHLY DESIREABLE CANDIDATE' apparently i am.

UHM.  HELLO???

i could've told her that.

i can tell EVERYONE that.

GHOULIES, cross your fingers and toesies on this one, cuz it would do a couple things for me:

a) get me outta the house and outta Mad Mex.

b)  i would be on the same schedule as my kids, including summers off.  can we all say how fin' awesome that would be.

c)  i would get paid more than what im getting paid at the Y

d)  hopefully there will be some type of benefits package that goes along w the job.  my boys dad cant carry me my azz forever.  though....interestingly.  he cant drop me from his health insurance until the divorce is finalized.  were talking minimum 2 years before that happens.....so im 'safe' until then.

BUT.....ALWAYS LOOKING....MOVING FORWARD.

gotta look out for ME and whats in my best interest.

the PARAPROF jobs are right up my alley having a teachers certificate AND a masters in professional counseling.

you work w a small group of mainstreamed kids, providing them w the support they need to 'succeed' in the regular ed classroom.

though its not a final destination for me career-wise, its a GREAT stepping stone, in the meantime while my youngest is still young place to be.
