Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hildekq - 2011-08-17 7:45 AM You don't have to crash your bike to post pics of your @$$ Wilson, really, you can do that anytime... WTF on crashing the bike?? You are damned lucky you didn't break a collarbone like Joe did earlier in the season. Guess you'll be missing some pool time till that road rash heals, and I'm guessing you are quite a bit more sore TODAY than last nite. Good thing you have a wifie at home, willing and able to come pick you up when you have a FAIL... Time to do some more shopping, you should get some BLUE tires, matching tires to your bike is the latest thing, y'know. Seriously, I'm glad it wasn't so much worse, you n' the bike a little bit worse for wear, but you'll both make a come back. For sure get a new helmet, that too, should match your bike. And if you're gonna crash again, dang it man, try and get in a little more distance first, a measly mile, WTH??? Take it easy for a couple of days, you're no spring chicken anymore, it'll take a little longer to bounce back than when you were 21! I guess you can use this to your advantage, Cheryl should be REAL nice to you, ha ha!! Play it up!! Okay, I'll post some more graphic A$$ pics later..LMAO!!! I think I scared Turtle - poor girl! You're right on the soreness...today i feel like my right side is mostly throbbing. My hip has this huge lump compared to the other side and is turning some new shades too...That is the most painful for sure - I hate getting up and down....But, in a couple days it'll be ready for action!! Hey, I have been doing some online shopping and I was planning on buying those blue tires...they are cheap and highly rated...So that'll happen - maybe some new bar tape too.....I messed that up a bit. Not sure about the helmet...I like silver, but not sure what the Tri bike will be.....or maybe that means I'll need two helmets to match each bike??? haha...I'm sure you would think that way...I know, I know - I need to try and look "cute" being all color coordinated and stuff. I don't thing Cheryl is really happy about the whole thing..haha...she mentioned last night that maybe I ought to give this $hit up.....I said - no freakin' way in hell.....it's here to stay!!!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hildekq - 2011-08-17 11:15 AM Hey gang, let me bring you up to date on Kati... she has really had it bad the past month!! She had the surgical boobie biopsy done on Aug. 15th and everything came back clear on that. 2 weeks later she was diagnosed with a severe kidney infection, probably caused by the catheter from the surgery. At that point the vomiting began and she literally hasn't kept any food down since then, but has been able to keep fluids down. She's lost over 20 pounds! She had a kidney ultrasound done, good news was the kidneys were healing, bad news, large cyst (6+ cm) on her ovary. Had more tests done, and finally yesterday she went in for a follow up with her original clinic doc who couldn't believe she was still feeling so awful. Sent her to OB-GYN for a consult and they agreed the cyst should come out, so we are heading in for the surgery in about an hour. Hopefully it will be done laparoscopically and they won't have to take the ovary, but there's a chance they might have to if it's wrapped around it or something. In the middle of all this I got approved to be tested for the BRCA 1 and 2 genes (breast cancer gene) and did that last week. I will find out in 2-3 weeks the results of that. If I come back positive, they will test Kati and if SHE comes back positive, then there will some hard decisions to make. Cancer sucks. I've gotten to spend a lot of time with Kane... in fact he tells me all the time, "Grandma, you're my best friend!" ha ha!! I'm sure Kati would appreciate any inspires you send, she's pretty discouraged with all this crap. How bad is it to eat and choose your food by what will be easiest to come back up? She has not given up her tri training dreams, now just has to wait for yet another all clear before she can start over. I'm hoping to talk her into a Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving, and MAYBE a duathlon on Oct 23rd if she can get back at it in time (2mile-9mile-2mile). 2011 has NOT been a good year for MMMers!!! 2012 has just GOTTA rock for us!!! Love you all! That absolutely sucks on so many levels! I'm sure you are doing a great job Hilde at keepeing Kati's spirits high and being there for her!!! That is when family really counts for sure! It's positive that they found something before it became even worse...hopefully the procedure is minimized and the healing is faster. I'm glad you got approved for the BRCA test so you two can take a proactive approach if needed....It may also alleviate some worrying and stress as a result. I pray for a good result for both of you and Kati getting better quickly! Big cheers for you Hilde being a super MOM and a BFF GRANDMA!!! Your family is very lucky to have you and vice versa!!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hildekq - 2011-08-13 9:38 AM Wilson posted this on another OLD MMM thread, I guess he missed the recent one, so I've moved it over. I was freaking out since the post before his was from January! I thought the mods had deleted 8 months worth of our glorious banter... ----- I've been thinking about extending my Tri season since this summer didn't go very well for me....I'm so fortunate to have found a perfect Tri for me...I've registered and will begin training tomorrow. Here is a picture from last year!!!! It's in December, but who cares I can swim in slush for competition like this!!!
Would you believe I convinced my wife that this was one of the members of our fine group? For some reason, all of the help and support you have given me over the past year stopped mattering and she didn't like you all nearly as much as she once did. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tstl - 2011-08-16 11:06 PM Dangit, tragedy strikes the MMMers again!! Wilson, glad you're (mostly) OK, thank goodness for good helmets. Take it easy for a few days, so your brain can get back to what passes for normal for you. And thanks for the a$$ shot, but really, you should warn a girl before exposing her to that !! I was more offended that his shorts appear to be on inside out. Who does that? Glad to hear you're okay Wilson. It sounded like quite the harrowing experience but we all know you really did it because chicks dig scars (and the stories that go along with them). |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() wsilverthorne - 2011-08-16 7:40 PM Well, let me add some fun content to the forum...well maybe not so fun! I stretched the ITB really well today before taking off for a bike ride - normal routine of prepping the bike for a ride...air, make sure trims don't hit break pads, check for stuff in the tire and general over look...that's pretty much my standard. I got about 1 mile from the house going down a hill and getting ready to make a right hand turn...I know down the hill I was going about 27mph and I usually try and take this turn around 20mph or so.....So, I went to take the turn and the front end of the bike washed out and I was splayed to the ground like a rag doll....This was not fun...not fun at all. It was like in slow motion - I thought...don't put your arms out, hit your shoulder...that worked okay....but, I hit my head really hard against the road....I remember when I hit thinking that the helmet did a really good job of absorbing that impact and I must have trashed the helmet...I got up and was really dizzy and having a hard time walking to the side of the road.....I thought I was gunna throw up...I've felt this way before in other non-biking accidents and I pretty much knew what was happening.....So I put my hands on my knees and just collected myself for a couple minutes then retreived my bike.....I wondered how the F*CK did that happen....I just washed out...no signs of trouble...I looked at the corner figuring I'd see gravel...nope, no gravel....okay, I hit an oil spot...nope no oil....now I was really confused and doubting myself and my reaction time/cornering ability....I used to ride motorcycles and slide the rear end out during cornering...so this isn't new to me....Anyhow I finally looked at my tire and noticed it was completely flat!!!! I lost air in the tire on the fast downhill and didn't realize it till I took the corner, the tire buckled and I lost traction and away goes the front end.....boom down goes Wilson. This really pisses me off...So I started to change the tube, noticed glass in my tire - it cut it a bit - hence the flat....and then I aired up the new tube and a big bubble appeared and the tire popped out of the rim....when I rolled the tire in the corner I cut it and stretched it out so the bead wouldn't say in the rim....So, I called the wife again....twice this week..haha....to come get me...this time with a story that I've crashed....hmmmm... So aftermath....bick is missing a few pieces on the shifter/break levers, rim is scuffed up, tire is toast. It still shifts and brakes fine, so I think it's just cosmetic...road warrior bike now....Me on the other hand.....nice goose egg and cut on my right shin, right shoulder is bruised and scrapped up a little, right elbow is all road rashed...and the worst is my hip really took a beating....I ripped my brand new bike jersey..first time wearing it...and ripped my pearl izumi bike shorts...that sux. My helmet is done - some small dents on the outside and some crushed foam to some degree...I thought the helmet would have looked a lot worse...damn I hit hard....That helmet kicked a$$!!!!!! So, I'm a tad sore now...shoulder, elbow and hip are throbbing pretty good....but It'll heal and I'll be jamming the corners very soon......Now let's see how much all the bike stuff is gunna add up to....New helmet, tires, maybe rim, bike shorts and jersey and oh yeah...a NEW SET OF FU$#@%CKING TRAINING WHEELS!!! Enjoy my pictures to document my fun!!!! Holy SHIAT Wilson!! At least when you do it.....you do it BIG NOW!! LOL My 5 yr old is sitting here beside me and asked who 'that guy' is (referring to you). She expressed her sympathy for your owies and said she hopes you are okay!! A flat on a down hill corner.....REMIND me NOT to do that one!! LOL |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh my gosh Wilson!! I'm so glad you're "ok." Thank heavens for helmets -- I shudder to think the damage that could have occurred. Hope you're healed up soon and back at it. Just remind Cheryl about how far you've come since before you started this journey ... I know she doesn't want you to go back to the shape you were in before. I hope you heal quickly -- This really has been a SUCKY year for you. I just know 2012 will be better. Kati - Losing 20 lbs sounds great, but not the way that you've done it!! I hope you're back to normal soon. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() thanks guys for all the encouragement sending me wind tunnel data for aero training wheels....Appreciate that being that I used to be a real engineer. LMAO... So today I was super sore and the hip has swollen to about a 1/2 size softball but larger in radius a couple inches....pretty gross when you look and compare my two hips..haha...I may not have junk in the trunk, but now I am hippy!!!! Sexy curves is what I like to think....I think it will really improve my silhouette in my house of pain!!! So, I will take a few days off AGAIN!!!!!!! and enjoy being a lazy suburbanite. I'm thinking a lot about Kati and the $hit she is going through -- I really hope she gets relief physically and emotionally soon!!! Big hugs and kisses (with tongue) from Z'ville!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() AWESOME blue tires, Wilson!! Tammy T and I both have matching tires to our bikes, you'll fit right in with us in Waco! Update on Kati: We kind of felt jerked around all day, she had to report to admissions at 7:50 am. and was told the day before she would be going into the first available OR, but we got a call as we were waiting that she was to report to the Surgery desk at 11:30... they wanted us to wait in the waiting room in the meantime, ha, NO, we went home. Reported back at 11:30 and waited and waited and when I finally checked the "board", she was scheduled for 1:56 p.m. Yeah, they had this status/tracking update board like in an airport... she was assigned a tracking number and you could see how the surgery was progressing. She finally got called back around 1:30 and they took her off to surgery at 2:00. They called me when they actually started the surgery, and then the doc called me when it was all done and said she'd be in recovery about an hour, then they would take her to another room and they would call me to come up with her. That didn't happen till around 4:15 and it was after 5:00 before we got out of there. All went well, cyst was removed successfully and the ovary was spared, we got to see pictures! She's in a lot of pain, but has pain pills, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Laparscopic, 3 pokes, so she should heal fast. AND she was starving, and was able to eat and not feell nauseous OR throw up, so I'd say THAT part was successful too! She'll be home alone for 2 days, but I'll be taking Kane to daycare, so she won't have that little booger trying to jump on her or anything. I'll plan on staying over a few more nights, mainly to help with dinner and Kane so she can rest on the couch. In any case, barring any MORE complications, this should be it and once she heals, should be good to go to get back to training!

Very pleased all that went well - even though they drug it out which had to be frustrating!! Awesome Kati was able to eat!!!! and keep it down!!!!! I hope the recovery goes speedy and she has to be feeling so much better just to be able to eat and keep it down...physically and psychologically!! Give her hugs for us! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hilde - thank you for the update. We're so happy to hear everything other than the scheduling went well! Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kati is recovering quite well... she's already planning on starting her training by walking for a week before she really gets back into it. She's still pretty sore, esp. the poke through the belly button, but thankfully she is eating AND keeping food down, no nausea, so it seems pretty clear that the cyst WAS the problem. Both her doc and the surgeon tried to get her to wait it out, but who wants to throw up for ANOTHER 6 weeks, have the cyst get even bigger and have to have it removed anyway, OR have it burst which is supposed to be pretty painful. We are both hoping that this is IT and once she heals she can get back to training. I've been staying at her house since Tuesday evening, but I'm ready to get home... lots to do still to get ready for school on Monday since there are computer issues at school and I can't currently print anything! I did finally have a/c when I got there yesterday.... still have no control over the thermostat, it's done through the internet somehow(?), and it's not as cool as I'd like. And with the temps being so hot, the thing just runs non-stop, I'm sure it will freeze up again soon.... Have a great weekend everyone, I hope to be better on checking in with y'all once I get my routine (ie RUT) going again. Stay safe and healthy... esp. YOU Wilson, and Kati too! |

She is officially separated and has moved into her new house and has been having fun making it her own. She's hoping to do another body building competition in Oct. and is starting a training plan on Monday... I hope she gets back to logging and being back with us, I have really missed her!! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Morning EVERYONE! I realize I've been out of touch lately and on the mend. I wanted to drop in to follow up with everyone on my status. BUT...it seems as though The Hilde has pretty much documented everything except what times I've taken showers (Love you Mama). I am still pretty sore, but moving around MUCH better. As she said, I plan on starting out with some walking until I'm further released by my surgeon for normal and strenuos excercise. I'm anxious to get back to working out but also acknowledge that I must be careful in order to avoid further complications. My follow up is scheduled for August 30th and I should know more then. I might even get to score some pics from the surgery so I can show you guys my Sick Little Twin/Ovary With A Bad Attitude. Wilson, SO glad to hear that you are recovering quite well. What a freak accident, and super scary stuff!!!!! BUT, I'm sure you made it look Super Flippin' Bada$$ and Tour De France stylish. I wanted to collectively thank everyone that's been sending me inspires throughout my rough month of health issues. I really appreciate it as I've never had health issues before and this stuff is for the birds! It's nice to get the positive reinforcement from you guys, it means a lot. Hope to be documenting workouts soon, and hope everyone is doing well! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Geez, I go on vacation for 2 weeks, take another week vacation to recover from my vacation, and everyone gets hurt! What the hell??? Glad to hear things are starting to look up, Katie. I had my gallbladder out last year, and recovery from abdominal surgery sucks. But at least it seems like the issues are taken care of. And Wilson, if you're gonna do something, do it right! Good to know all the protective equipment did its job. I'm back in the saddle, working on training for a 30 mile bike ride in about a month. So glad to be back at it again. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() I would like to ask for your advice. I've signed up for the She Rox Triathlon in Asbury Park for this Sunday, with a hotel reservation for Saturday night. The forcast at this point is that Huricane Irene is going to be there on Sunday (70% chance). The race website states that the race will be changed to a duathalon if the ocean is not fit to swim in. I'm not a strong runner by any stretch of the imagination, but I think I could suck it up for the race. On the other hand I can defer my race entry until 2012 (but I'll lose my entry fee for this year while having a slot held for me for next year) and cancel my hotel without losing any $ as long as I do it before Thursday. I will wait the extra day for the fore cast, but I'm curious to see what you all think? Should I suck it up and race, or should I wait 'til next year? Edited by bunsy 2011-08-23 1:50 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, Margaret, for me personally, if I signed up for a TRI, I wanna swim because I want to bring home bling... Even if they do change it to a Duathlon, do you really wanna ride your bike in a hurricane or run in it either?? That's a long drive when they may end up cancelling it altogether anyway at the last minute. If you are okay with spending the hotel money and want the trip, go for it... having done 2 tris in the rain this year, I think I would cancel and take the slot for next year. Sucks to be out the $$$, but better to cancel the hotel and not lose that money too. Give it till tomorrow and check the forecast again, it may make your decision for you! Just my opinion mind you.... |

Margaret - YOU asked ME for advice....haha...I love it...you forgot to exclude me!! Okay, I really enjoyed doing the Tri in the rain - I was probably the odd bird out there....But it's so much more exciting when you have to manage the bike differently because of traction issues!!! I liked the excitement of wet roads and seeing how far to push it!! BTW - I only crash on dry roads! But, if you have lots of money (hotel) riding on the event happening or not - it would suck if they cancelled it and you were out all that $$$....So I probably would bag it unless you were 75% sure they would not cancel it.....Doing a hurricane Tri would be a great story!!!! Slapping the waves, beating into heavy winds on the bike and struggling to stay vertical on the run...NICE!!! Just think how you could weed out the weaklings that are competing against you!!! I'm getting excited just thinking about it!!! But then again I love to sail on Lake Michigan when the small craft advisories come out!!! then it's really time to sail - lots of wind and heavy seas!!!! I can smell it already! Good luck on your decision!!!! I'D GO FOR IT!! Kati, glad to see you are on the mend and hopefully will be released soon. I'm just very happy that you are keeping food down now and not losing weight by puking all the time. My status: The swelling in my quad is going down and starting to look nearly the same size as the left. The colors of the bruises are spectacular and now cover my hip and butt down to my kneecap!!! AWESOME!!! I'm not walking with much of a limp anymore and feel pretty good once I get up and moving....being seated for awhile is still a biatch to get up! I hope I'll be able to sleep on that side in a couple of days - I'm close to being able to roll on it and apply weight in bed....that will be nice cuz I don't sleep well on my left side. My hip is starting to itch...I think that is a good healing sign!! So, I'm almost there....I should be in exercise mode again here soon - I hope. I've been doing quite a bit of stretching cuz my legs are super tight...more so than they have ever been in 1.5years....I hope getting everything loose again stops the knee pain in biking and the shin splints running..haha...I'm a wreck!!! Maybe Turtle's right....just park my a$$ on the couch. |
