Last week I attended the little conference that Chris McCormack gave in Puerto Rico two nights before the race. Mostly he talked the same old crap about him being the greatest, tooted his own horn, blah, blah. One thing he did say when we got to the part of the Q and A was very interesting, and I never heard it before. He says the lower your HR, the more nutrition you need to put in and vice versa. If you feel slushy, slow down and don't take anything at all until you get better.

I got a chance to try it on the Puerto Rico course (hot, humid and the hilliest run ever) and it worked great. I always experienced gastric issues in the past while doing 70.3s, never had a problem in my only full Ironman.

The coarse was awesome. Got a bit of a late start. Winds were blowing. I got carried away and ended up doing 85 miles with a group. Very awesome coarse though. Good roads.

I wonder if it is that your body NEEDS the extra calories, at the lower heart rate, or is it that your body can more easily digest the extra calories at the lower heart rate so take them in early so your body can use them later on when your heart rate gets up and your body will not digest the extra calories as easily.

Well, it seems like the whole idea behind this is that you cannot digest well while your HR is high. My coach has always told me you need to hit t2 with a third full stomach. I had a particularly ugly race in New Orleans 70.3 where I took too many calories on the bike (about 1200 kCals), ran three first good miles and then got the worse set of cramps ever. It brought me down to a walk for the rest of the run.

So, all that said, I think it works well to get a lot more calories at the beginning of the bike (first half) and then taper the consumption until t2. One thing for sure is that after I get the flavor fatigue I can only take oranges and grapes on the course. Another great thing in Ironman Arizona was the chicken broth and the cokes.

Did you try out the 808's?  How'd they handle in the wind?

I believe so. At the Richards store where we all stopped and re fueled. There we so many folks out there, it was awesome. I am going to try and make it out there as many weekends as possible. I exchanged contact info with lots of peeps. Ended up staying another night up there and got a 16 mile run in this morning around the waterway and trials. Woodlands is very accommodating for biking and running. Lots of clubs out running this morning.I am jealous, told my wife we need to move! Forgot to quote, in response to tjfry.

They worked like a champ. Not bad at all. I have experienced much worse before. Thanks for the info. The tires worked well, good roads and no flats. Can't wait to get out there again.

Yes, could have been.  We were in a silver SUV, but it was a red/silver Cervelo on the back.  I liked the neighboorhoods around the resort, so cool to live next to all that!

I'll have to PM you my contact info, great folks out there.

Does anyone know how long a latex tube will last? I know it isn't as long as the butyl tubes. I have one in my disc wheel and haven't ridden it since IMFL.

Greg, don't worry about it.  You can run on the rims and still be faster than the rest of us!

fyi, that area I took a pic of the land being graded about a week ago is now paved. Apparently that was some agreement WTC got out of the development company. Expect a minor course change.

TJ, in your opinion (being a super swimmer), which is the best skinsuit I can wear over my trisuit?
