Clearly, my survival instinct is malfuntioning.  Or malformed.  After today's earthquake (I am about 50 miles from the epicenter), during which I was watching the construction crane outside my bedroom window sway, my first thought was 'I wish I had been outside so I could see the ground rolling, and the buildings swaying."

My second thought was "I wonder what that would have felt like if I was riding my bike?"

This weekend we have fun with Irene....

Here's another weird one for ya... I fly into SFO a lot, and I wonder what it would look like from the air when the big one hits. and have run various scenarios through my mind about landing when it happened... I wonder what it WOULD feel like on a bike? You'd probably think you had a flat!

I feel so left out... no photos to share!  Hey gang, I'm still plugging away up here in Michigan.  Haven't been too good about updating the log, but I'm still running and hope to spend a bit more time in the pool once I get a couple of things behind me.  I'll be checking in on everyone so keep up the good work!

Guys, I need cyber hugs, this has been the day from H3LL... started off with a fall when I was running in the dark this morning, banged up the outside of my knee pretty good.  Got to school and FREAK OCD PE teacher wants to change our schedule and in spite of the fact that both the other music teacher and I told her we didn't like it, of course the principal did and it went through and we start on Monday.  Now I "get" to teach 28 PreKers for 45 minutes, 4 days a week... fun, so much fun.  AND our lunch went from a nice leisurely 45 minutes to 30 only we NEVER get 30, we're lucky to get 25.  The actual teaching part of the school day went pretty well and then I came home to find the kitchen ceiling had fallen in because the upstairs a/c overflow pan had gotten stopped up or something.

sdf

sdf

So Ron and I go upstairs to clean out the closet where the a/c unit is... the carpet is soaked, luckily only 2 cardboard boxes on it, but one is our 12 foot Xmas tree, prelit, so probably ruined.  We get that cleaned out and I go downstairs to go to the garage to get the wet vac, and my dog has died by the back door.  What the F**K, are you kidding???  So we stop everything, drop her off at the vet to get her cremated, and I'm just numb.  I can't even cry yet...  we stop at the grocery store and hubby asks what I want for dinner... um yeah, I'm really thinking about food right now. We come home, he starts working on the water upstairs while I clean the downstairs.  For now, everything is cleaned up, Ron's cooking dinner and I just want to forget everything and watch some trash TV before bed... thanks for listening my peeps, I love you all!!

Oh no! Big hugs!!

I have not yet had to bury my pet, but I can't imagine the sadness.

And WTF about your ceiling falling in!

And your crazy gym teacher! And...everything else.

You definitely had a BAD day! I hope this is it. Hopefully the rest of the year will be smooth ceiling, because you met your quota!

Mindless, trashy TV is a good choice. Thinking of you!

OMG Hilde, that is the Worst Day Ever!! That would be enough to make me climb into a bottle of bourbon or a gallon of Ben & Jerry's for sure. You really didn't have to go out and join the Ugly Bruise Club, you know! After all, you're the Dominatrix- you're supposed to be GIVING the bruises, darlin'! But I know all that stuff is peanuts compared to losing your dog. You'll have a doggie-shaped hole in your heart. <>

Thank you everyone... today is a new day, and it is actually a bit of relief that Ruby is gone.  Yesterday morning when I took her out to pee, she couldn't stand up, and I knew it was time.  I was going to come home and talk to Ron about the shot until the kitchen ceiling fiasco took precedence.  Rubes is in a better place, and her ashes will be spread with her sisters at a ranch.  I'm doing okay, really!  It was just one of those days when you thought it couldn't get any worse... until it did.  You all are the BEST!!!

Mom, I know you had a rough day...the kitchen looks like H3ll for sure....Just wanted to tell you I love you crazy lady, and I hope you're hanging in there.  The good news is this:  TOMORROW is girly night, and we've got nothing but room in the freezer for lots of Chocolate Ice Cream, and we can watch as many trashy movies as you want.  Daughter loves you!!!  Let me know if you need anything.

Wilson......NO you di-int!  LMAO; although I'd be pretty proud of those markings too. Tammy, yours looks insane as well.  And I'm getting involved in this mess why?!?!

So clearly I should not demand anything from the cosmos.  Out for my bike ride this morning, got two miles down the road (against a wicked headwind) and realized my left pedal was feeling a little odd, like my cleat was loose.  I went to unclip, and the pedal came right off with my shoe!  Luckily, I was already moving pretty slowly, so it wasn't a big deal to coast on over to the grassy part and hop off.  Unfortunately, my tool kit does not include a pedal wrench.  Fortunately, I was about a half mile from my firehouse, so I walked down the road.  Unfortunately, none of the wrenches we have will help tighten the pedal, and I'm unwilling to ride the few miles home on a loose pedal.

BUT!  We have utility vehicles at the station.  I can grab the keys and run home, grab my pedal wrench, bring the utility back, fix my bike and be on my way.  Again, bad luck struck and the keys are locked up in the chief's mailbox.  I do have a key for the mailboxes, but it is....at home.  And now, it's downpouring and storming.  Home is just a bit too far to walk in bike shoes, and my chief won't be around town for another hour.

At least the wind has died down.  If I can get my bike fixed, I can ride without feeling like I'm being pushed backwards...

Well Jen, at least you weren't HURT!!!  Having a pedal come off at the wrong time could be disastrous!!!  Sounded like a comedy of errors, but in a non-funny way, ha ha...  I guess we just shouldn't tempt the Cosmos, I hear it is oppositional/defiant!

That was my other thought.  It could have been much much worse.  Yes, today has been very much a comedy of errors kind of day.  CLearly the cosmos does not like to be challenged, but when taking it's revenge, has a sense of humor.

Hope everyone who's week has been hellish is having a better day!  Are any of the MMM'ers in the path of Irene (we are, potentially, but we are far enough inland that it shouldn't be too bad...)? If so, stay safe and hunker down!

Jen, I liked your attempt at aligning stars, moons, heavens...whatever - that'll teach to practice black magic....haha...Very glad your pedal fell off going very slow....When I read that I thought...you know how many times I've been flying down hills 35ish mph and stand up to stretch my calves - putting all my weight on my pedals!!!  If I crashed like that...OMG - that'd be very very bad!!  I get goose bumps thinking about it...ugh...But a safe ending for you!!

Okay my friends, I need some perspective - help - advice - smacking' down, etc....  I'm trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the season/year.  Should I run one Tri early september and just bear it like I have the last two - little/no prep.  Or should I try and get back on schedule and run one the end of September - but I'll have to wear a wetsuit (which I don't want to do).  Between the last 5k and Tri I really screwed my legs up....I've never had issues like I'm having now and I think the balls to wall approach without proper training maybe wasn't the best idea...But, it did make me feel really good to get out there and punish myself!!!  So I could run the early Sept one and just stop for awhile and heal up - if I hurt myself like last time.  Or would a month be enough time to get back on track and run one with some level of training the end of September???  I really don't know what to do...I'm even thinking of hanging it up for this year and do something else.  I'm gonna lift weights and work on core core core for a good part of the winter.  You may think I'm nuts, but I also thought I might run an Olympic at the end of September - at my alma mater - Purdue University Boilermaker Triathlon.  My thought here was I was supposed to run an OLY this year and I'm really disappointed that I didn't accomplish that goal.  The swim bothers me, but I'm willing to say FU$@#$%CK IT and do it....Am I just asking for trouble???  I'm struggling with what is next for wilson???  I've had such a sucky season that I almost just wanna quit and stop worrying about it.  I have a personal trainer lined up to work on getting me ready for next year - so that's an option too.  I've added a HIM to my bucket list - and I'm gonna do it maybe in 2013 - so I'm going public with that goal!!!!  Motivation and direction needed my friends!!!  UGH!

Wilson - I am in the opposite position as you.. I am starting to feel little to no motivation.  The race I asked you all about the other day has been officially cancelled.  They are offering refunds, or I could transfer the race fee to a local race at the end of September, but I would have to ware a wet suit.  Which I really don't want to do. I think earlier in the summer I would have been eager to do another race, but with the weather changing I feel more like hiking outside, than swimming.

As for your eagerness to do another race this year... I guess my only caution for you is that with all that your body has been through, it might be wise to start working with your trainer on some of you longer term bigger goals and forsake the short term stuff.  I know you are missing the thrill of racing, but the payoff might be much greater for you if you kick on something really big a little further down the road.

Jen- glad you didn't crash.  I think that was the least scary "bike incident" I've read about from the MMMers lately.  And glad you were able to fix it fairly easily too.

Wilson, I just sent you an inspire that kind of answered what you were asking.  I KNOW you want to compete, BUT I also think you are undertrained, through NO fault of your own.  I don't know that a month is enough time to properly train, esp for an Oly.  I've only done one, and THOUGHT I was trained and I surely wasn't.  That had to have been the hardest 2 hour drive I've ever had getting home, I was exhausted and I was all by myself, could barely stay awake.  I will never do one again unless I have SERIOUSLY trained for it at distances much longer than the race distances.  I do think you could do the sprint, you've already shown you can ignore the pain and go like a crazy man!  But think about it, you are still healing from the bike crash... forget about the early Sept race, if you insist on racing go for the end of Sept, maybe even Oct if you can find one and it hasn't started snowing up there yet ...  my best advice would be to give up on this season and work on base building for next season.  Slowly build up your run, maybe find a 10K or half marathon you can train for, ride outside while the weather is good, but be open to some Spinerval action in the dungeon, keep working on your swim (to REALLY get better at the swim, you need 4-5 days a week, you gotta decide how much time you're willing to commit to it).  I think I would welcome the lack of structure, I'm enjoying this break in races to tell you the truth since it's too hot to do 2 a days right now.  But we all know you are whacked and will whatever the heck you want even if it destroys that bod, ha ha!!  I know you'll do what's right for YOU!!  And I'm behind you whatever  you decide... unless you stop logging altogether and I DROP you from my friend list !!!!  Just kidding my friend!!!

Wilson - I agree with the other ladies. There's no point in punishing yourself in another race. The results could be more injuries that would take longer to heal or even put you out permanently. I learned when I injured myself to train smart. If you aren't ready, there will be another race. There always is. And I think we saw what happens when you challenge the universe. It bites you in the a@#!  Just think of how strong and healthy you will be next year. You will kick the seasons and finish that Oly strong knowing you did your best.

Either way, good luck with your decision. You are definitely tough. You even have the bruises to prove it!

Wilson, speaking as someone who has ignored minor injuries, only to have them bite me in the later, you might want to give yourself some time to heal.  Then again, you seem a bit nutty anyway, so....

Yep. Chiming in with the chorus here. Forget about racing for a while and listen to your body. You hate being laid up with an injury, so for god's sake, don't bring on another one! You could always volunteer at a race if you want to be in the middle of the action. I've done a couple Oly's, and I think you need about 3 months to train for one. Trying to do one this season would be a big mistake. Sorry this season sucked, just shake it off and plan for next year!

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone has a GREAT relaxing weekend.  No injuries, no bad luck with the weather those of you facing the hurricane, and no heat stroke for some of us!!!  Today I have internet at school so I plugged in the kids so I could print at school and not waste MY ink and paper, and that means I'll go home with nothing to do schoolwise, yippee!

Hubby and I have adjusted well to just having 3 dogs now, kind of relief not to have to clean up pee and poo from the sick doggie.  Ron is getting estimates from homeowner's about fixing the kitchen ceiling, and then we will call AHS to find out about the a/c.  It's not supposed to be a secret to find the place you clean out the tube so it doesn't back up and overflow the drip pan!  The folks that remodeled our house from its 1896 state with modern wiring/plumbing/central air and heat/ drywall were cheapos, you can just tell.  God knows WHAT we'd find if we starting looking in the walls!!  Crap work all over the place!  But he has a plan to rip down the ceiling drywall, cover the rafters with plywood and then put up a tin ceiling, which would look AWESOME!!!  So maybe a blessing in disguise!

Girlie nite with Kati tonight... trash TV/movies and junk food.... Booyah!
