How about this one:  Assuming you're doing a 2-week taper, you have 6 long rides and 6 long runs left to get comfortable with a 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run.

even worse I have Kemah this weekend.  So that leaves me 5 5hour rides left.  oh boy, but I can not panic yet

If your goal is simply to finish and you did at least 80 miles on the bike and 16 miles on the run last weekend, then there's no reason you shouldn't be.  Add 8-10 miles each week on the bike and your last 2 are at race distance.  Add 1 mile each week on the run your last 2 weeks are at 20 miles.  Assuming you're doing good quality workouts mid-week, you'll be ready.

Even if you didn't hit those numbers last weekend, add 8-10 miles on the bike each week and 1-1.5 miles on the run each week.  If you make it over 100 miles on the bike and over 18 or so on the run by May 8th, I'd put money on you to finish.

TRUST YOUR TRAINING!!

I really hope you are right! My first century this season should take place Sunday. Will's going to be fine - he hit a century last weekend and has been running a ton.

Heading down for course preview. I assume there are stores on bike course to refill, but are there any water fountains or water stops on run course?

tjfry - 2011-03-28 12:27 PM fyi, that area I took a pic of the land being graded about a week ago is now paved. Apparently that was some agreement WTC got out of the development company. Expect a minor course change.

TJ, in your opinion (being a super swimmer), which is the best skinsuit I can wear over my trisuit?

The Torque Pro IMO. There's really only 2 in the game right now. TYR and Blueseventy. There are others but a bunch of them are little more than a lycra cover up. One of the reasons TYR and Blueseventy pretty much had all the market share in kona.

On another note, b/c I have to work Kemah this weekend, I rode long today. Basically from the national forest back to 1486/105 I got passed by about 20 cars total. All By Myself. It was awesome. If anyone is able to hide the ride during the week, I would highly recommend it.

Don't know what your numbers are but if your goal is just to finish, ditch the idea of "having" to do a 20 mile run, an 18 mile run, or even substantially less.  Unless you're trying to KQ, or improve on an IM pr, there's no reason to run that far.  Lots of people fall into the trap of respecting (or fearing) the distance too much and end up doing way too much, to the point of hating training or getting injured, and they never return to the IM distance because training for it just wiped them out.

Again, I don't know what your history or your current training looks like, but there are plenty of people who have finished an IM without having run more than 12 miles once in training.  Along with good nutrition and body maintenance, just run consistently at a distance that's comfortable for you, do some long rides and swims consistently, ramp up to three or four century rides the last few weeks before taper, have a really good taper, don't stress about it and enjoy it! I'd be willing to put money on you to finish!

I "think" there are 3-4 fountains on run course.  Bike course has a 2 stores in richards.

Those of you worried about directions on bike course.  Someone has laid down more bright orange arrows to lead the way.

dgunthert - 2011-03-01 12:33 PM This is the time to really focus, everyone.  The next 2 months make up the heart of your training.  Skimp here and you'll pay for it.  Now is the time to make committed effort to not missing a single workout.

I got way behind myself, but have come back the last couple of weeks.  So instead of putting down what I've done, I'm laying a marker down for what I'm going to do.  Through the end of Thursday, March 31, here are my goals:

Bike:  19 workouts - 700 miles
Run:  18 workouts - 160 miles
Swim:  16 workouts - 38,000 yards

Put some numbers out there and let's hold each other to them.

See you in a month with the results!

ETA: And since it makes sense to put it here.  My current weight is 169.2.  Goal for the end of the month: 163.6.

Not too far off from you on what I want to get accomplished this month

Swim -36000 yards - 13 workouts
Bike - 750 miles - 19 workouts
Run - 155 miles - 18 workouts

As for weight .. I will do everything I can to not loose anymore which means I am pretty much eating constantly now!

Compared to what I posted at the beginning of the month, here is what I actually did. ALmost dead on for the run mileage but swim and bike were a little off. I was short 3 bike workouts but added 2 run and 1 swim, so my net was 0 change on the number of workouts! LOL.. Oh, and I somehow managed to maintain my weight ;-) but my grocery bill increased by 25%!

March's totals:
Bike:33h 38m  - 714.38 Mi
Run:21h 14m 13s  - 151.15 Mi
Swim:9h 51m 36s  - 31950 Yd

I would like to ride the coarse again this weekend, but the whole 100 miles this time. Anyone riding 100 this weekend? Not familiar with the roads out there yet. We road 85 last weekend, but took lots of turns not on the coarse, can't really remember.

This weekend you would not be able to get lost.  Besides the "new" orange arrows, Endurance Nation has the course marked as well.  I assume it is them since they were not on the course yesterday after I picked my son up for school.

edit: I would love to do it, but I signed up for the Kemah Oly to break my training up.  After this weekend I plan on riding 90+ every Saturday and a smaller portion on Sunday the rest of April.

If you intend to ride the entire course, be careful on the section of 149 that you end up on after jackson road. I rode it tues when apparently every car in the area was parked (seriously, ghost town all day), and that section, about 3 miles or so, is under construction. No shoulders, cones everywhere, etc etc. They are widening the road, so long term its gonna be great, but not today. Be safe.

And for those going to kemah, swing by the booth and say hi. I might be running a swim clinic down there as well. I like putting faces to avatars.

Jeff - We are departing at 7:30 with the slower group doing 90 - but adding the south loop into the woodlands to cover the whole IMTX 112 tomorrow - we are not adding the inner loop with the 125 mile studs.  I plan on being at the parking lot around 7am.
