Hi Team. I hope you all had a great day.

Biked in the afternoon, curled early evening, swam at 8:30.

Just decided to do drills and a few laps. Nothing special.

I am going to try to get a run in tomorrow before curling starts but I am not sure if I will have time. No time to swim tomorrow so it looks like, based on the curling event this weekend, I will not be back in the water until Monday and that makes me a bit sad to be honest. Every day I miss is another day longer to FIO.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Friday and an awesome weekend and thanks to those of you that are viewing my vids, I appreciate it.

KC

IMHO, clinchers are for us guys....unless you've got a sag wagon.  Tubulars are less prone to flats but when you get one you either change them out or carry an aerosol can of flat sealer.  Unsure how reliable it is over time.  And if you tear the tubular,m you are done unless you have another to press on.  Clinchers are sometimes hard to stretch, but there is a trick.  Once the tube is inside the tire.  Put as much of the tire on that will go easily and then press the sides of the tire on the rim between your thumb and fingers all the way around.  Keep doing it unti you can put your palms over the tire and push it into place. What you are doing is getting the tire away from the outside of the rim and down into channel in the center of the rim.  It loosens up the tire so it is easier to pop on.  One of those tricks the bike shop boys know but keep to themselves so you think they are bike gods.

KC-  Thanks for the kind words and encouragement.  Your swim videos are great and as Coach said, you look comfortable.  You just have to get the mind to believe that.

Scott/Caleb-  I have seen a DR for the same problem three years ago.  At that time I had xrays and a MRI with no final diagnosis.  I did contact my GP this time and got some anit-inflam, they have helped.

Rob-  No problems on the questions, that is how we make informed answers.  I tweaked my back this time swimming.  I thought I would come back out of the pool first to see how it responds.

Keith- You can relate to the job stress very well.  Matter of fact, I think you are amazing for being locked up all day in a correctional facility.  Wouldn't be me.

Coach-  I am taking it slow because I do not want to injury myself more.  Being the sole bread winner makes you think alot about the activities you do and how that may affect you ability to work.  Thanks for the kind words.

As the weekend unfolds, I will let you all know how things go.

i have had a crazy week but i hope to have everything back to normal after this weekend.  my brother is getting married tomorrow so training this weekend will be tough.  glad to see everyone else is doing good.

kc- your swim videos look great.  the improvment from dec to now is awesome.  just keep doing what your doing.  i know you have a  lot of people giving you pointers but for me the main thing is to get comfortable in the water and then work on small things.  but i am like you -just trying to learn.

tim/dave- i get confused on tires as well.  alot of people say that wheels make a big difference in a race.  is it a noticable difference?  do you rent or buy?

It is something funky with the text editor because mine is doing it too.  What I have been doing is highlight what i type and then just justify the text left and it seems to clear up the html back to normal.  i will shoot an e-mail to webmaster.

So I finally got a good solid bike ride in last night.  I am going to make a point to get 2 rides in a w eek but it has been tough with the marathon trainging.  Should I be concerned that I have lost some of my bike fitmess?  I have my first tri in 2-1/2 months so I think I still have time to get most of it back.

Also has anyone ever heard of drinking pickle juice to stop muscle cramps?  I was listening to the tri-talk poscasts this week and there was a study and actually people who have tried it and it supposedley stops a cramp immediately.  Something about sending impulses to the brain and stuff way beyond my pay grade.  Thoughts?

One of my friends that does alot of hikking swears by mustard packets for cramps.  Never heard of pickle juice though.  It's brine iusn't it?  Alot of salt.  Maybe that why.

Dave - I think reading your posts now are funny! Sealed  You never how it's going to look!

Eww I'll take a pass on mustard AND brine. Sounds rather repulsive. Frown

Actually, I had heard the kids 'pedialyte' (spelling?) to be an excellent source of rehydration/ replenishment/ fuel.

KC - Your swim vids are great. You can really see the improvement, clearly your determintaion is paying off.

Scott, I am going to take a pic and email it to you for the bike meter, thanks. It may well be that it is too far from the sensor, if it has to be 2 mm away, i'm not sure I can get it that close.

I'm pretty excited as I took a whole 10 seconds off my 100 swim time. Now I'm 'slightly' less slower than I was before!

Dave - How is the clean up from the floods going? Our town flooded last year, it seemed to take AGES for things to get back to normal.

Hi Team.

Thanks Deb - I appreciate the swim comments and congrats on shaving 10 seconds of your 100 time.

Well, no workout today, real busy with a bunch of stuff and then curling tonight - We Won! Score, 6-4. On to our 11 o'clock game in the morning.

I miss working out though - no pool, no bike, no running - I think I am addicted to this stuff LOL.

Have a great weekend everyone.

KC

No workouts today and I didn't get any in yesterday.  Not going to try to make it up today because I have a 2-hour run tomorrow.  Luckily, I have a friend that's going to run with me because I haven't ever gone this long before.  Don't know if I'd be able to do it by myself the first time.  Good thing it'll be warm enough to run outside.  So hopefully it'll go well.

tim/dave- i get confused on tires as well.  alot of people say that wheels make a big difference in a race.  is it a noticeable difference?  do you rent or buy?

I do have a couple sets of race wheels that I own, I love the look of the hed3c so I always race with that up front and depending on wind the 3c on back or a full disk.   I think race wheels have double benefit, 1st they are much faster and 2nd the mental side of feeling faster.  I never train with race equipment, so when I get to a race I feel and go much faster.  Do the same thing in the pool, love wearing baggie shorts to swim then in a race my tri pants feel so slick in the water.

Let me know if you have any specific questions as its like tires everyone has an opinion.  I will say if your bike handling skills are not upto speed I would watch out for deep dish or disk wheels, I have been shot 2-3 feet over in a cross wind.

i know there are different sizes to the wheel (although i dont know what to call them) but is it worth the price to rent the smaller disc?  do you pick up enough speed to justify with the smaller ones?

I assume you are talking Deeper wheels.  The size are pretty standard most bikes are 700 smaller bikes have 650's.  But there is a huge difference between something like a zipp 404 and a 808.  The Wheel on a 404 is not too aggressive and is about 2" deeper than your current wheels.  A 808 is something like 5-7" deep.  At this point the wheels are just cool at our level they make a difference but only if your trying to sneak an extra couple watts out of your race.  I have read they can save about 40secs for 25miles.  So for an IM your talking a couple mins, not sure if its worth the price.  I just like the way they look.

Hey Team.

I hope everyone had a great weeken. I had a great time at the Kingsville Curling Club. My team finshied third - pretty good! We lost in the semi final game but won the consolation flight this evening and had a great time. However, I have to be honest, I sure wish I could have had a swim or two this weekend.

Back at it on Monday.

Have a great week everyone.
