Stacie, have you ever bought socks from "SockGuy?" I have some cool "Bad Kitty" and "Pirate skull & crossbone" socks. I always feel like a BadA$$ when I wear them. www.sockguy.com They are great cycling socks! I have a couple pair and they last! what's on the side of your socks? (or is that on the top?? im not sure when it comes to socks??) i usually wear smart wool to run/ride in. they keep my feet cool when its hot and hot when its cold. isnt that just MAGICAL?? how do they do that? just the plainjane ones, black. stacieb I really like my Bad Kitty socks. Cat Face with cross bones and Bad Kitty written on the sole. Plus they are pink, so they are "girly bad." When I'm biking I like to wear the ones that say BikerChick with a picture of a yellow chick. BTW, love smart wool socks as well! Wear them year round. I love smart wool too! but I wear them more for just daily wear! Personally for running socks I am a Balega girl. Balega? never heard of em KATIE. ill have to keep my eyes peeled the next time at the running shoe store.... i wear my smart wools all the time....i even sleep in em. i guess the only place i dont wear them is in the pool. LOL. stacieb Here is the website for balega: http://www.balegasports.com /> They are an American/South African company...they just started making a merino wool product as well. I really enjoy them. The temp was about 40 (so not too bad) but the wind was gusting up to 25mph and was steady at 10-15mph...and it was coming from the east and I run a north south route so it was crossing me the entire time. Brr! Sounds unfun. Way to get it done! |

Then DH got off of work early. We jogged/walked the lake. 3.5 miles, beautiful scenery with the leaves changing. I jogged 2.33 miles without stopping ..longest ever for me. It was pretty slow because I was pacing with Larry who was walking a little slower than usual. I was only supposed to do 2 miles, But it felt fine and we were talking some, and I just kept going without realizing. No stiffness today so all is okay for tomorrows session. Then it was time to clean up, and head out for chinese food. Appetizer plate with chicken, shrimp, pork, egg roll, wonton, and soup. Then sweet & sour chicken and mandarin beef. yummmmm Then on the way home, drove thru Dairy Queen for a blizzard thin mint for me, snickers for him. A very good evening! Thank you ALL for all the birthday wishes. Sounds like a great day! That blizzard sounds delicious. Snickers for me though. |

I'm very excited because this has been a goal of mine for a while now, but I'm nervous because my longest recorded run so far is about 6.5 miles. At least this will give me a good excuse to KEEP TRAINING over the holidays. I'm still eating copious amounts of candied yams at Thanksgiving though. Avoiding those would be sacrilege. Congrats!!! I need to follow your example and actually pick a race! We are at about the same place...my longest run is about 6 miles. I have started the HH novice plan, but have yet to pick a race RNR half in January, Tempe AZ I forget the name of it but a half in VA beach the end of March RNR half in April, Nashville TN, I think I'm taking the kids to that one so they can do the kids mile run the day before. I workout much more regularly when I have a goal so I picked some things to get me through the winter. I'll still be biking and swimming, just not as much until after the race in January. I need to pick my triathlons for the summer soon. I always do better when I am working for something. I was actually looking at the RNR half in Nashville. My only concerns are convincing my husband and figuring out how I am going to train for the hills as I do not have many hills around me. Is the Nashville race real hilly? I did not know that. I am not sure if it is "real hilly" but I have a friend who did it and said that she felt it was hilly since all of her training was in the plains of the midwest where there are virtually no elevation changes. Here is the elevation chart...it doesn't look too bad. That doesn't look any worse than where I run now. Being that I live in south central PA, Appalachian Trail country, I have some hills I can run on if I have to. I just found out earlier that the HM I wanted to run in VA is sold out. I may only be doing 2 this spring before I head into tri season. I'm thinking about doing a full marathon in Sept, I'm not sure how I'd work that with tri training though. Anyone have any advice? I don't plan on doing a lot of tri's, a few sprints and I thought of doing any Oly. The last two years I have had to work marathon training in with the tri training. In fact this year I had my last tri a week before the marathon. Basically I found a marathon plan and subbed that in for the runs in my tri training plan so I was sure to get the longer stuff in. If I was tired and needed to miss a workout, the bike or swim was the first to go. It seemed to work fairly well for me. |

Not much food smack been posted lately. I had a peanut butter and honey sandwich and and an apple. Not exciting, but I really like peanut butter. What is in your lunchbox? Roasted almonds, or as I like to call them --> tree bark I had some chocolate milk, as well. Little bits all through the day for me. I'm having steak for dinner tonight, along with baked potatoes and corn on the cob. We'll have extras if there's anyone who doesn't feel like cooking. Did I read that right? Extra steak? And I don't have to cook? Sign me up! |

Mid-flying dismount at my last tri: great picture! I know I would be nervous if you were in my age group! id be shakin in my boots spd's! so what tri was this taken at? It was at a small local tri in Waterloo, IA 3 weeks ago. Only a little over 100 people showed up. It's a well run race so I hope it grows. Next year they are adding a sprint distance (this was an oly) so that might help the growth. |

It was raining a wee bit: again...nice picture Neal! and by the sign of the guy in the background your wee bit of rain is a downpour! so how was racing on those wet roads? its one thing to ride them but to race them...makes me very askeeeard! yes, I used to be a downhill mtn bike racer...but asphalt is just down right hard and unforgiving! Yes, a definite downpour. I don't mind wet roads, but combine that with steady 25mph winds and gusts up to 40 you have one scary a$$ bike ride. I thought I was going to die several times |

Or did I miss that in the last 12 pages I just read through? Anywho, leftover salmon for me. Good call. How negligent of us. It was ham and turkey sandwiches with colby jack cheese on deli rolls with strawberries and raspberries here. Congrats on your 2nd pink star and some delicious sandwiches! Thanks Neal. And thank you for inspiring me to make salmon at some point this week. I find it incredible that both of my kids actually enjoy it, because it took me until my early 20's to like salmon. salmon is a staple in our house! I eat it a few times a week. Cant believe you would not like it til 20~ there are only a few foods I despise! and even as a kid there was not much that I hated to eat....but these are a few of the foods that I have never been able to eat: liver lima beans not big on sauer kraut and hated haggis when I tried it recently Yummmmmmm, sauerkraut. The rest, blech! |

(i so cracked up when i read your description of the pain your having....though i deeply empathize as well) 60 min spin including a 17 min progressive climb, increasing the tension every 2 mins. awwww yeah. immediately followed by a 3x500 swim. it was butt-buster of a workout today. continue to enjoy my all-veggie lunches. today, red peppers, red onions, baby portabella mushrooms, sauted in Balsalmic&Basil Vinagrette w melted provolone on grilled Ciabatta. i wanted Foccacia but the bakery was out today....the Ciabatta was oh so good. just finishing up some unfinished 'business' here at home, mostly laundry. BAH! the kids have off school tomorrow, so im gonna GOOF OFF w them, take them to see Where the Wild Things Are...though admittedly im taking myself and then we'll go have lunch somewhere and then i think we'll go HALLOWEEN COSTUME shopping....good times! stacieb ps. NEAL, awfully nice pictures! you seriously need to teach me that coming out of your shoes while your still on you bike, trick. you is superfly! DEE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wow! Some great workouts today! If you ride on a trainer in the winter, practice taking them off then. You don't have to worry about keeping balanced. Then, just practice, practice, practice. Every training ride I finish I'm dismounting that way. It's second nature now. |

I'm taking a few HTFU points for myself today. 39 degrees, windy, and raining and I got 3 miles in. I actually ran about a minute per mile faster than I typically do, too. I'm not sure if that's because A) all the hard work is paying off B) I knew I had to be home by a certain time to get the kiddos off the bus C) It was cold out and I just wanted to get my run complete as quickly as I could D) a combination of all of the above Kids are now home with snacks in hand, so I'm off to a hot bath with a mug of hot chocolate to try and warm back up. Keep it up GHOULIES!!! I would take more than a few HTFU points if I were you. Wowza! That's some craptastic weather. I'd rather run in snow than that |
