I need a little encouragement, Nibbs. I was feeling pretty good about my race tomorrow until last night when my hubby fussed at me for not taking care of my bike and that it was mechanically messed up. I took it out today and yes, my rear brake is sticking, but I think I can manually get to release. I had told him a month ago that the brake lever was loose and asked if I should take it to the shop. He didn't say anything. I mean, I don't automatically know. I am not mechanically inclined. I figured the best way to take care of my bike is to leave it alone. I pump the tires before every ride, I lube the cain after riding in rain. I don't know anything else. Bah. Bad juju before a race.

Bad juju?

Nah.... Idiot here thought her brakes were loose, so I tightened them up from the barrel adjuster... the next day I got to the race, put the tire on and locked it.... thought I kept hearing something the next day while racing.... yep... when I thought they were loose, I had just forgotten to lock them down, so I over tightened them....

Is it the lever sticking or is it the cable tension?
If it's the lever could a little silicon help?
Just asking the questions... I really don't know the answers....

Perhaps if you just drop by the LBS they might be able to do a quick adjustment for you.

NO BAD JUJU....DON'T ACCEPT IT!!!!

What happens is when I squeeze the lever, this silver thingy that caps the cable pops out and doesn't go back. I have to manually push it back inside. When I do that, my brakes release. Hubby says this is a major undertaking for LBS because my cables are internally routed. Meaning they have to pull them out from inside the bike, replace them and then thread back into the frame. Not exactly a quick fix.

I don't see why threading cable should be a major fix whether it's internal or external.  I mean, just yank it out through the lever, then thread it back through.  That is if your guide sleeves are still in.  Most times they aren't, but if they are it can lead to excess cable, which might be your problem.  If the guides are gone, tape string or another cable to the cable your are taking out.  It'll leave you a "guide wire" to use when you put it back in.

Try tightening the cable first.  That might work.

I just paid $2.98 for gas.  It's dropping like the Dow.  50 cents in three days here.

Don't worry, OPEC is going to lower production to raise the gas prices again. I would be completely ok if someone decided to torture every member of OPEC. It's filled with nothing but greed.

And to think... I was happy that last night I paid 3.48 (with coupon)... I was glad to see it below 3.50   We had gotten up to 3.89 not long ago.... (like maybe last weekend)

Oh, I'm a huge fan of riding and "running" the course... even swiming if possible... must have a "taste" of it beforehand...

Actually Ive never done it before... but its only about 20 minutes from home (in the car) so could end up being a good place to go for a ride ANYWAY so why not head out there...

Just hoping there are no major events on out there this weekend or it will be really yucky which is why I wanted to go early.

There is the aquatic centre out there too so maybe I should chuck my swimsuit in the car too... Ive never done a pool swim in a tri and even reading how its going to work doesnt fill me with confidence....

Waves of 10 people each... no lane ropes but buoys in the pool you have to swim around.... does that seem weird?

As for running... well my calves are tight today and one knee a little tender so rather than scare them into aggravating an injury Im going to take another day before i run again...
