Forgive me Group, for I have sined.  I found a gallon of ice cream in the freezer that was not freezer burned and a left over brownie on the counter that looked real lonely.  I tried, but because there is no more low fat yogurt left (grocery day tomorow), I couldn't resist.  Being bad just tastes so good sometimes though!  Oh well...  Tomorow is another day!

Thanks team, I shall follow your advice and just go from here.

As the day progressed I felt more and more human. I'm excited to get back at it. I have just arranged for the first outdoor ride of the season on Saturday - 30 miles, should be fun!!

I just hope I don't need too many band aids - it's going to be my first outdoor ride with the clipless, and while I have been practicing like crazy clipping in and out, well, I'm not the most graceful of creatures lol

Only advice is everytime you start slowing down clip BOTH feet out...  I have seen awsome riders take 1 out and a gust of wind or curve in road causes them to fall the opposite way.   better to be safe then sorry.

So, ummmm, yeah.... I told my lovely fiance what my workout tomorrow looked like (which I am going to tweak), and she said "Holy Cow! What kind of race are you training for?!?  Don't overtrain yourself!"  So, like a smart guy who knows when to listen to his main squeeze (only squeeze for that matter), I looked.

I have an Oly on June 5th.  I'm training using an Oly to HIM bridge.  Why?  Cuz I felt like I could do the distances in the times stipulated.  So far so good.  So here's the question - should I peel back and get to an Oly plan and use the opportunity to build speed on top of an endurance base?  Or should I continue with the bridge plan and totally send the Oly when the time comes?

I welcome all opinions.  I'm kinda likin' the way I'm able to throw down the workouts, but the volumes feel a little big, for now.

And the type A in me says to HTFU, soldier on, and do the workouts.

Rob, there are a million variables but I'll take a shot.  1) I worry you will burnout if the volume is big now (will get much worse) 2) Not much need for a 3hr ride if doing a OLY race. 3)what is your goal in the OLY (finish or race) I think you could finish today but if your trying to get faster then distances are not nearly as important. 4)  Quality workouts are much more important than just plugging away mile after mile.  5) Once the weather breaks things can get easier or harder (more activities to take away from workouts but nice out to workout)  6) What does your "squeeze" think about all the time? its very important she is behind all the training or life will not be fun. lol

Number 6 first - She's totally behind me.  She's just voicing what you said in number 1.  And yes, I asked her and we talked about it.  She and I are both equally committed to a fitness-oriented lifestyle.  That helps dramatically.

I think it's important to give some context here - I'm running on about 5 hours of sleep.  I'm betting that if I top 7 hours of sleep tonight, I'll be good to go in the AM.

I completely agree with your quality vs. quantity statement.  Truer words have no been spoken.

I decided to re-work my training a little.  Turns out I was only ahead of the new plan by a couple of weeks.

Lighter volume this week and then things start picking up.

yeh- the clipping out is tough for me to get the hang of.  it seems like i can only clip out when my feet are at the bottom.  so i really have to think about when to do it.

have fun on your ride.

if you are going to feel bad about doing something make it really worth it.  it sounds like you did a good job at that.  i would have tried to find some chocolate syrup and whip cream to top it off...oh well there is always next time.

Just tell me it wasn't the whole gallon.  A guy like me who was 400 pounds managed to do that, you know?

Gabe- I did find caramel sauce! Laughing

No whole gallon, just a bowl.  It is funny though how you eat ice cream and your mind plays tricks on you when you look in the mirror after eating it.  It feels like you can see the love handles getting bigger.

Hey Team.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Wednesday is a very busy day for me so I am not sure what I am going to get done on the workout front today. I am hoping to make it to the 8:30 lap swim tonight. I will keep you posted.

Have a great afternoon.

Welcome to my world.  Hell I havent had ice cream since 2005, I've gone from a 50 waist to 33 and I still have days when I look at the mirror and see a fat man.  I tell my wife and she goes and gets a pair of my jeans and holds them up and says, your little butt fits in these.  I nod and smile, I run double-digit miles, I ride centuries, I swim 90 minutes continuous, and  I swear inside I still feel like a fat man at times.    I don't know if he'll ever go away.

So I took the plunge and have a new tri bike on the way.  I won't get to ride it till a week from Saturday though since I'm going to be out of town next week.  Very pumped though.  Had the same bike for six years so hopefully I'll be used to it by my first tri in April.

The rec center where I swim is going to be doing maintenance on the pool from April 3rd-15th so it'll be closed during that time.  My wife and I's first tri (it's her first ever) is the 17th so we're going to have to figure something out.  We're losing a week of swimming this next week then those two weeks in April.  Not good.  We have a YMCA not terribly far away but they only have a two-lane lap pool.  I'll stop whining, just an inconvenient situation to be in.

Don't know about you guys but I'm getting excited about the season.  It's getting closer! I'm ready to get started!

+1 on the "whadya get?"

And a HUGE +1 on the excitement about the season.  I went to the website for the Oly I'm doing and actually got the pre-race jitters.

Went out for my second outside run of 2011 and set a new PR for my 10k course!  48:23.  Averaged to 7:45 per mile.  Last time I ran it a month ago I averaged 8:03 a mile.  Very happy with it!   Swam today also and it felt good.  My coach said I'm looking just fine.  Just have to keep at it.  Timed myself doing 100 yards.  2 minutes, 5 seconds.  What is everyone elses 100 yds time?

Holy cow that is a huge improvement.. Way to go..  Will you run for me!!!

Right now in a 25pool I avg about 1:45, if training hard 1:25ish.  Fastest race is 1.2miles @ 1:22 (wetsuit)

Nice times!

I got on the scale today and learned I've lost 10 pounds since November and am tipping the scales at 189.  I was as fast as you when I was at 185.  Not saying the speed is there, but it will be.

I'm in a 25yd pool and average right around 1:49 for 100yds.  When doing 25yd "sprints" in the pool, I've crossed it in 16 seconds.  Now if I could generate that speed without getting gassed over a distance of .9 miles for my Oly...Cool
