On a happier note, i won my first bike race tonight!!!

I celebrated by having an Oreo Cookies and Cream Ice cream sandwich!!!

I'm just curious about your pacing strategy for Patriot.

I do not have one.

i will do what i always do, and i will probably fail, but that is the hand i am playing.

Swim...Destroy...Survive

i guess we will know what my tolerance for pain is in a week and half. It will be epic though, that i will promise.

I love it!  Rudy is Connecticut's version of Chris Lieto.

went to the yankee game last night.  i think i lost 10 punds sitting there sweating.  yankees sucked.  Got home at 1 AM so did not make it to the pool this morning.  will try either do an easy run at lunch or maybe a swim after work.  we'll see.

$1k for a race.  Not out of my pocket.  Mostly because I'd have to tack on a divorce attorney retainer as well.  Seriously I'd work my tail off to find funding for Kona and Kona alone.  NYC isn't that big of a deal to me.  Maybe if I could relieve myself on Yankee Stadium I'd rethink that.

Give him a nice little pat on the rear as you go bye.

Sorry Jeff.  Grew up in a family of Sox and Redskins fans.  While I root for Houston teams I still hold onto my hate for the Yankees and the Cowboys.

Those shorts are a bit too big at the moment.

Heat question from last night:

Did the OWS swim in my wetsuit (water was 83, so way too hot, but didn't want to stress my hip flexor, so only did 1/2 mile).  Then did a run, actually mostly walk because it was 90 and it was a very, very hilly course.  I walked when I had to, not problems and had hydration all through the day and gatorade endurance on me for the run.

I get home and about 10 minutes later I feel woozy . . . what is that about?  I have been eating better, but not cut my intake and I have definitely hydrated enough.  Is it just post heat reaction?

Could be a heat reaction.  See if you adjust over your next few workouts.  I've lived in Miami and Houston most of my life so the heat just doesn't bother me anymore.

Race week for me.  My last swim workout was awful so I'm going to try and get a swim and core workout in tomorrow and a quick bike workout in Saturday, race Sunday.  Need to also see if I can get myself comfortable enough through T1 with my shoes clipped in already or not.

Rudy, simply impressive again.  nice work

an IM is no where close to being in my future.  I have to get a sprint done first.  With that said, I don't think I would pay $1,000 for a race, but like somneone said earlier, I am not in that position, yet.  Who knows what the future will bring.  having young kids, I don't have the time to train for a full IM distance.

Did some speed work this morning, and not really sure if I am doing it right.  Please advise.  5 mile run was like this:  10 minute warmup, followed by 8 1 minute sprint intervals, average pace of 5:52, fastest at 5:02.  1 min rest in between.  then finished the last couple miles at about 8:25 pace.  Is this completely wrong?

I would bet heat stress or reaction, sudden change in temp messed with HR and blood pressure maybe??  Was your A/C on when you got inside??

how did you feel a half hour later once your body cooled down and acclimated to the inside temp??

either, both are good, cycleops had a fluid leak issue for a bit, i think that problem has been fixed. I have a KKRM and love it, the cycleops is more quiet for small contained indoor use and hearing the television, either way they are both great trainers and you can't go wrong with either, get the one you can get the best deal on.

Yeh, AC was on when I got home.  I was fine about 30-40 minutes after I got home.  Just weird to happen so long after the workout stopped, but maybe you are right --- sudden change in temp after a workout.

OH yeh response to the swimming dizzies.  Totally got them last night, but swimming in OW bilateral breathing will do that cuz you are constantly swimming your head from side to side.

On a positive note and follow up:  Wore the new DeSoto Black Pearl last night and it worked great.  Once in the water, the top shimmied up a bit to allow for movement in the shoulders, but still stayed tight across the mid-section.  Neck it is tight, but takes getting used to ... RECOMMEND

Artist - 2011-06-08 3:28 PM Good ride today. Did not get any tightnes in my left hammie so that was good. But I am still getting very severe pain (cramping) in my right calf. It seems to be tight all the time anymore. I roll and stretch it. It does not tighten on the run, just on the bike, especially on hills. I have had two bike fittings so I don't think it is that. started last year and worked on pedaling without pointing my toes, but it is a constant on the bike anymore. ANyone have any suggestions? Also happens some on the mountain bike, but not to the extreme of the roadie

I have notoriously tight hammys.  Pulled them a few times over the years.  Obvious is stretch and roll.  ALso: (1) use yog-type hamstrict streches for a longer deeper stretch (2) stretch, roll and stengthen the supporting muscle groups: weak and tight hip flexors are often the cause of hamstring and low back tightness.

Big fan of the following circuit for hammy/hipflexor/glute stretch and strength: 3x circuit of walking lungs, step ups, side walking lunges,  1 leg squats.  start with 3x 5, move up to 3x 20 very slowly.  no weight.

the tight hammie seems to come from pressure on my bike seat especially on hill climbs. But it is my calf that is problematic all the time. I can't seem to loosen it up at all. Was just on the bike and now running. Biking is the worst though. Only right one, not the left.

Let's see -

Augusta 70.3 I got a horrible shirt that does not fit, and a hard plastic shoe bag that sucks.

IMKY I got a nice shirt that didn't fit, and a nice shoe bag that I proudly use.  I will say that when I emailed them to complain that the womens shirt I got didn't even reach my belly button, they promptly sent me a mens shirt that fits great.  No additional cost to me, they didn't want the other shirt back, they were very pleasant about the whole thing.  Granted I paid an arm and a leg for the race entry, but I felt like for the logistics of putting on a full Ironman event, they did well and for me it was well worth the fee.

I looked at both and went with the KKRM. I love it. It is quiet and quick to throw the bike on or off as your riding needs change.
