Just read about the most horrifying thing...

High School Sr is DQ'd from State High School Cross-Country meet because she rolled the waistband on her shorts....

She would've placed second with a time of 17:50...

I can't believe that...

Rediculous.  Most of the girls on my daughter's JV soccer team do that.  They don't like the 'long shorts.'

Was it a modesty issue?

hmm... well, I've enver claimed to be a music literate...
(I actually argued with hubby that The Beatles never made such a song as "Octupus' Garden"   I had never heard of it until on one of my kids music CD's.   Yeah, he made me go get Yellow Submarine and now we HAVE to listen to it on every major road trip.  I will NEVER question him again when it comes to music... that cd has very few good songs on it.)

Check this out Heather (from a Sacramento XC rules posting):

2. Uniforms must be worn as intended by the manufacturer. The waistband of a competitor’s shorts shall be worn above the hips.

Thats just silly - with all the stuff that most coaches would say about train and race in what you are comfortable with!

As Sal said the only reason I can think of is they ended up REALLY short but that would be extreme?

No, most girls roll the waist because they are toolong inthe waist, not the inseam.  This then causes the "crotch" to rub the thighs and chaff.

The RULE reads... "Uniforms must be worn as intended by the manufacturer.  The waistband of a competitor's shorts shall be worn above the hips.  There shall be no bare midriff."

Many women are short waisted and even after rolling the waistband, it is still on/above the hips.

A lot of it is a result of shrinking school budgets.  My daughter was on the JV soccer team this fall (9th grade), and they got BOYS hand-me-down uniforms...ugly...

Just more motivation for her to get on the Varsity team...

I must agree that short shorts are not acceptable... however, being a short, petite woman myself... I often roll the waist band of my shorts so that I don't appear to have a "baggy" butt, b/c otherwise they will sag... even in doing so, they still pass the Catholic School test for length... fingertips (and "girls don't shrug up your shoulders", as Sr Barbara used to say)
