I go to the front desk, call my boss and say "there's no childcare".  My boss knows nothing about it.  She asks "can't someone watch him for 45 minutes so you can teach?".  I tell her in no uncertain terms what the GM said.  Then, I went into the cycle studio to announce that there would be no class and explained why.  I also told them I could not continue to teach the class if no childcare was available and so it was unlikely that I'd be back.  Needless to say, this went over like a lead balloon.  BTW, I hate drama.  In a big way... and, as you can imagine, this was all going down in a very dramatic fashion.

So I call my boss back and say that I cancelled the class, sorry for the hassle (it's a hassle for her when a class gets cancelled) and the GM interrupts me and says, "the people are unhappy.  They want some music on in there.  Can you leave a CD?"  WTF???????? No shizzle Sherlock, of course they are unhappy.  And meanwhile, about the CD, was that a real question?  My boss is on the phone going "don't enable her... do NOT give her a CD".  OY.  As I'm walking out the door the GM says to me: "Sorry for the miscommunication.  It happens but you obviously should have known about this." 

OK, that got me.  I said, "I'm sorry, too.  However, I was not informed of this and I feel that perhaps we could have worked out something more positive for today so that the members still had a good experience.  They are going to be unhappy that I can't teach this class anymore."  She says, "Get a babysitter."  I then inform her that I don't get paid enough to justify that cost (it would cost me more $$ than I make teaching to pay a babysitter).  Her response?  "That's not my problem."  So I tell her it's too bad because I have a good following with that crowd.  She says:  "You are one person on one day.  They'll get over it.  Have a great day."

I waited until I got to the parking lot to choke on the blood oozing from my tongue after biting it hard enough not to utter the words GFY out loud.

Hector is extremely tired, so I think I'm going to pass out. I read the notes on page 41 but the rest are to many to read. With that said it's time to turn on the bubbles in the tub and just soak for a while, then pass out.

Yeah, I still can't actually wrap my head around it.  The thing is I've been struggling in terms of letting go of this club altogether so I'm pretty certain this helped me make my decision.  Technically, I have a non-compete clause... but my boss at the other club has overlooked that (instead she added a financial incentive for when I do give up the other gym completely).

Oh hon Im so sorry... sounds like the GM did not handle it well...

I had a spin instructor at my gym who stopped teaching his one class a week and we all just stopped going to class....

He now has a class back and its full every time he teaches...

My boss rocks.  By the time I got home she had called the regional director and national director.  She assured me she'd do everything she could to "fix it".  She is very concerned about me quitting.  I have gradually been dropping classes one by one.  She just recently gave me a raise in an effort to keep me around a little longer.  Also, apparently she has had a run in with this GM (she's new) and there have been other instructors who have been treated badly by her.  I get the impression that she thinks we're all stupid little aerobic divas... I was thinking of pulling out my master's degree from a fancy school to show her but I forgot to put it in my pocket this morning .

Well at least there is a bonus in tehre for you if you decide to go that way... maybe some of your regulars will follow you to the otehr gym?

I was thinking of pulling out my master's degree from a fancy school to show her but I forgot to put it in my pocket this morning .

Yup, they already have... and they are building a new location where virtually all the rest of them will go when it's finished.  My plan was that I would continue hanging on to this class and the 5:45 a.m. class (tomorrow morning... hmmm... sleep tonight??!!) until that one was built and then bail.  I think I'm developing a plan B.  The early a.m. class is same gym but different location with a triathlete GM who gives me swim tips .  Maybe I'll keep just that one, dump this one... well, perhaps I've been dumped from it... and then quit when the new one opens.  Great idea, Cat .

Alright, now that I've ranted, I suppose I should try to get some sleep since I have to get up in 5 hours.  DOH!
