OK, I have more questions.  I don't understand the 'cut off' times. I mean, when DOES the last swim wave start?  Those people (women?) are at a disadvantage unless they are the fastest participants.  When I look at the results from last year there are times that are well past 7 hours.  In my division (F35-39) there are finish times close to 9 hours.  Does this mean that this division starts earlier?

A saturday Swim and a run sounds good to me as well.  Not sure about the bike part though as I wanted to get mine into transition following suit with others.  What time?  Where is Lucky Lake at?  I will be staying at the Shades of Green Hotel on Disney.

I'm not sure on who starts when, but last year I was in the 2nd to last wave M30/34 and the pros were done with the swim by the time I started.  I think the female groups start very early.   The official cutoff clock starts once the last wave has entered the water so the 1st groups get about 30/40 mins extra.

Is there a place to go for an OWS on Saturday afternoon?  I'm visiting a friend and not planning to be around until then...  I checked out Lucky's earlier, and believe that was a morning swim?

Is anybody driving the course beforehand?  Any plans to carpool?

Evidently I CAN get an OWS in right here in Colorado...granted it will be a 45*-ish swim with a wetsuit and not quite the same as Florida, but it will hopefully put me at ease a little more.  (I have some OW anxiety and find myself having to "relax" alot in the open water and can't really "race" until  nearly halfway done!)  An actual Florida swim would still be preferable...if I can fit it in.

Thanks, I feel better about the 'cut offs'.  I am interested in this because I might NEED those extra 30-40 minutes!!!

I dont remember any changing tents last year. There are no "special needs" bags either.
Its just like your local tri with everything at your bike in transision.
In Aiken SC now, doing the Langley Pond Intl Tri on sat. Treating it as a training day plus. Meaning working HR with some speed work mixed in.
Otherwise just looking to enjoy myself with the wetsuit swim.

Had a upper respiratory infection last week, which turned into a sinus infection over the weekend...but now I'm just focused on enjoying the race as much as I can.  It's gonna be a great time!

Yikes, feel better stratman.

So, although my only goal was to finish this race, I realize if I were training with a specific time goal in mind...a race this early in the season is very tough.  Yesterday was the first day I could get out on my bike for a long ride.  Obviously riding inside wasn't quite the same.  It's snowing here again today.

"Reconned" the transition areas, lake, and drove the bike route while in Orlando on a business trip.  Looks like it will be CROWDED at transition.  Bike route is as advertised...not many hills, only two that seem to be challenging, about 30-35mi through.  Fort Wilderness seems nice, but looks like there will be a ton of people crammed in there!

See you all in ~19 days...

flchristopher, your right on the money...it WILL be crowded. You well get about 12-14inch of space in transision.
EVERYONE please let your peeps know ahead of time that there will be lines, for the buses to/from the parking lots. The jiffy johns, food, etc. Fort Wilderness is nice, but with 2600 athletes and family your looking at over 6000 people there.
Last year after the race we waited 45-1hr for a bus to the parking lot. I rode the bike back and still beat the wife by 40 mins. Nothing like rosting in the parking lot after a 6hr day for 45 extra mins.
Training is coming along...did the Langley Pond Intl in Aiken SC this past weekend with the wife. Just took it as a training day to test fitness for FLA. Was able to hold avg 168HR for 2hrs 37min.
and was able to run 8:05's for the 10K, not really pushing it, HR in the mid 160's, about 85% of my redline, blow the top max.
This is the last BIG week of volume, then start taper next week.
Swam 1.5mi today.
56-60mi ride and 10K run (brick) tomorrow, (hell day)
swim wed.
ride 60-80 thrus
swim fri
10K w/intervals on sat
lite 18-24mi spin ride w/easy 5K on sun.
Back to work sunday night, off to Kuwait for 4 days.

Thanks for the info.  How was the road construction?  I was reading all the RRs from last year and that was a problem.  Also, most described the run as Passageway to Hell with the heat.  Very comforting.  I will be hydrating now for the race.

Most of the run, (maybe 9 miles?) is along service paths, dirt, rock, dips and grass. They run behind the main roads within Disney and along still water cannals. Its hot, dusty and crowded as the paths are only about 5-8ft wide. Wear your old shoes and socks as you will be black from the knee down after this run.
I said after last year, never again, yet here I go, hmmmm.

I saw the construction concerns also...but didn't encounter any construction along the route.  In general the route seemed to be decently smooth roadway; I only saw a few short stretches where there were biking hazards (potholes, ruts) but they were few and far between.  First few miles on Disney campus; then thru a relatively major thoroughfare lined with tourist traps and stripmalls; then the right turn onto the state/county road that ends up through a bunch of scrubland for several miles; then a few orange groves, farms, and a golf course; then at the northern end of the loop hits a series of housing developements, which is the predominant "scenery" until about mile 48 when you approach the Disney campus on the back side.

Didn't run at all on the paths (had to talk my way into the guard-controlled campground, so wanted to get back in the car and get on the road again) but did see that they were narrow and predominately dirt!

Was 85 in Orlando over the weekend.

Cube - thanks for the advice and get some heat-training in while you're in Kuwait...(I hate that place!)

Challenging hills in Florida?  Bridge or landfill?

I ran in Kuwait last week when I was there. Lots of horns blowing and finger pointing as I ran along the sea wall in Kuwait City by the towers. I didnt get a real "warm and fuzzy" feeling, But I think they were just trying to saying "thanks for our counrty back"

Is a tri-bag (back-pack) acceptable to leave under your bike.  Irealize there's not much room...but ya have to have a way of getting your stuff to and from on race day.

Thanks for all the great info too!

See ya there...hell week almost over, than start the taper!  Hmm...not sure which is worse really.  But, always exciting!

You can bring your stuff in a backpack, but you cant leave the backpack at your bike, no room.
Once you've unpacked your stuff, you can leave it off to the side of transition along the fencing /screen, lots of people do. I plan on leaving mine with my pump, flip flops, etc in it.
