![]() ![]() | ![]() My achilles tendons are really tight. What kind of stretches can I do to loosen them up, especially before a run? |

Awesome, awesome, awesome for you, Pat!!!!! Hmm. Achilles Tendon stretches. I actually have never personally dealt with that. I searched for some posts about it for you and came up with these: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=180619&posts=6&mid=2414898&highlight=achilles+tendon&highlightmode=1&action=search#M2414898 http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=113500&posts=10&mid=1382475&highlight=achilles+tendon&highlightmode=1&action=search#M1382475 http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=190318&start=1 http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=180418&posts=5&mid=2412120&highlight=achilles+tendon&highlightmode=1&action=search#M2412120 http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=160665&posts=4&mid=2171512&highlight=achilles+tendon&highlightmode=1&action=search#M2171512 If that's not helpful, you might want to post your specific question over in the Injuries and Health Issues forum. The guys and gals that hang out there, might have just the advice. Again, big congrats on getting out that door and let us know what you end up doing with regard to your AT. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello ladies, How is the weekend training going? I felt really good today to get back to the gym. I ran a little bit in my new shoes, did some elliptical and some core. It was a good enough workout to make me feel nicely hungry all day. I so love when I can eat and eat! I will be also very happy to return to some running. My shoulder felt a little stiff, but the 20 minutes I did was totally manageable. Marcy |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ha ha. The race was really, really fun. Here's my race report. I really pushed myself on the run and the bike and it paid off. There were 15 all together and 4 were women. They were awarding top female, top male and overall and there was no age grouping. I came in 3/4. This is about where I expected to fall. I'm just pleased that I went in and beat my goals by so much - in every event. It reminded me about how important incorporating speedwork into my training this season will be. Hope everyone's having a great weekend! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice Job Lora!!! You have inspired me to look for an indoor tri in my area...I know there are lots of them. By the way ladies...I commend you for running in the cold!!! It's about 20 degrees where I am and there's no way I will run in that. I don't like to run much anyway so it's track and treadmill for me....at least for now. When it hits about 45 degrees I will be on the bike outside for sure! Today was rest day for me...nothing but shopping and housecleaning. My body needed a rest after the week I have had. Make sure you all rest....it does wonders!!! Can't wait to get on the trainer tomorrow though. Jeri |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello, everyone. I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know that I may be out of pocket for the next couple of days. We've got a person off at work and I'm helping cover her stuff. Just didn't want to leave you wondering... |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ran in my Yaktraxs yesterday. Geez, it was really hard. I think since it was a little warmer yesterday I was sinking in some of the snow. It felt like I was running in snowshoes. Anyways - only 3 more months until this snow is mostly gone!!! |

Anyone else doing a Masters swim? I started last week and I love it. We have a great swim coach. The workouts have been real butt kickers but it's fun. I really need to improve my swim and I am hoping this will do it.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wish I had a Masters swim - that would be so good. Good for you to have that. Oh yeah, and Yak Trax...love em, hate them for that very reason! Cold here, we must be getting the cold you guys just had in the mid-west maybe. Cheers, Mandy |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Im just waiting for May when the park pool opens. In the mean time I'm doing dry land swimming drills. I haven't swam since the mid 80's so sayiing I'm a bit rusty is an understatement. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Skywashed - 2010-01-15 11:23 PM Here's a question for everybody with kids- and anyone else who has any other significant priorities in life other than tri (which I suspect is all of us). So, having dogs is certainly not the same has having kids, but they do consume a lot of my life - and gladly so. I love 'em. I feel so guilty on days that I didn't have time to take them for a walk, but somehow found the time to train. So guilty. It doesn't happen very often, but there are days I have to choose. I'll just maybe take them for a longer walk the next day. I also think kids like to see their parents happy. If training makes you happy, the time that you do spend with her will be reflected by that, perhaps by the energy you've got to chase her around or a more lifted disposition. Oh, and remember: guilt is the gift that keeps on giving. You're an awesome mom just being concerned about it, but don't let it overwhelm you. I don't know if that's helpful or if it even makes sense. Just trying to give a different perspective. Hang in there, Marcy. ![]() |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You're right, Lora. Guilt is the gift that keeps on giving. I'm going to work on skipping it. Edited by Skywashed 2010-01-16 8:23 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Marcy, Lora is right. A happpy mom makes a good mom!! Also, it is all about quality! Yes you can work out and still be the best mom! I'm sure you spend quality time with your daughter and you do fun active things together!! Those are things kids will never forget and always appreciate. You can work out and still make time for her. Don't get stressed about it and enjoy every minute because they do grow up in the blink of an eye. My boys are 13 and 15 now. We have done all kinds of crazy things just spending time together. And we still do...I even go deerhunting with my oldest. So keep working out and make every second count with your daughter!! ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Girls- I was told about something on the Timberman Forum and I had to share. I just got a new iPod (yeah!) and one of the guys suggested I check out Motion Traxx as a good FREE podcast. 57 minutes of awesomeness, or at least I thought so.. Check it out http://www.motiontraxx.com/ Cheers, Mandy |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have three kids (3 year old twins and a 20 month old). Anyways - here's how I justify my workout time. I am actually pretty fortunate to be a stay-at -home mom so every morning we pack up after breakfast and go to the gym. I do spinning, strength, yoga, and sometimes run on the dreadmill. They like it because they get to play and socialize with other kids. I do a lot of running at night after they go to bed (our kids are usually asleep by 7:30 or 8). I also run/bike on the weekends when they are napping so that my husband isn't always stuck watching them while I'm working out. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK, ya'll. How about we start a challenge? It'll be completely optional, but if you're having trouble getting motivated, having this goal can help. Let's do an Ironman challenge. Within the next four weeks, we must have swum 2.4 miles, must have biked 112 miles (spin class and trainer time can be applied) and must have run 26.2 miles (walking can be substituted here). Who's in? |
